  • In General, LPI radar's detection probability by ES equipments is lower than that of conventional pulsed radar because of very low transmitting power and high antenna gain etc. LPI radar is a kind of RF stealth technique such as RCS reduction design. Therefore the ultimate goal of LPI radar is detection probability reduction by opponent. If one of the two, RCS value or LPI radar performance is not sufficient, own platform will be found first by opponent. In this paper, some considerations are suggested for detection probability reduction.

  • To improve the performance of identification for radars in an ES(Electronic warfare Support) system, it is necessary to estimate scan characteristics as well as the basic identification parameters such as frequency, pulse repetition interval and pulse width of radars. This paper presents the method of estimating the scan period and the scan beam width of circular scanning radars. The proposed method estimates the scan period using the quality of the autocorrelation of a periodic signal. And, it estimates the scan beam width using the linear interpolation and the proposed method of estimating the scan period. Simulation results are presented to show the performance of the proposed method.

  • During the sea trial test, we discovered EMI(Electromagnetic Interference) between MIL-SATCOM parabolic antenna and ES(Electronic Warfare Support) omni antenna. Emitted side lobe of CW(Continuous Wave) from MIL-SATCOM raises the threshold level of ES omni antenna. Therefore detection rate of ES is decreased. To solve this problem, the path of side lobe of CW from MIL-SATCOM should be blocked using EMI shield. This paper presents the method how to calculate the size of EMI shield, material, and optimized deployment. The test of the EMI shield effect was performed on a surface ship. After installing EMI shield, EMI has been decreased significantly. This paper will provide a method how to design EMI shield and a way to verify the result.

  • ES (Electronic Warfare Support System) collects radar signals, and analyzes the signals about frequency, pulse width, PRI (Pulse Repetition Interval), and etc. and then ES compares analyzed result with known radar signals to identify them. But there are two disadvantage. One is that use of known radar signals is in comparing step only. The other is that calculating PRI needs many operations. In this paper proposes a parallel reference correlation algorithm that uses GPGPU (General Purpose Graphics Processing Units) and can identify what signals are in received radar signals without calculating PRI.

  • Requirements management is one of the most essential activities of systems engineering in developing successful weapon systems. Particularly it is very important to consistently manage the traceability among the user requirements, the system requirements, the development specifications and the testing plans throughout the entire life cycle of the weapon system. However, the most part of requirements-related activities has centered around the functional and performance requirements but the integrated logistics support(ILS) requirement has not properly been managed. In this regard, a special attention is needed to develop and manage the ILS requirements. To do so, the ANSI/EIA-632 standard can be referred as a starting point since the ILS requirements of the weapon system under development are specified by the enabling products whereas the functional and performance requirements are covered by the end product requirements. Specifically, we first review and model several cases of previous weapon systems development, which reveals the problem of interest. Then, under the framework of ANSI/EIA-632, we study a hierarchical model for effectively managing ILS requirements by analyzing the features of ILS requirements. Finally, the value of the proposed model is discussed through the case study of electronic warfare equipment.

  • The pulse amplitude of a search radar signal received by an ES system is not constant pulse by pulse because of the radar's scan characteristics. The variation of the pulse amplitude causes the ES detection loss in the ES system. Therefore, the ES detection range equation should consider the ES detection loss caused by the search radar's scan characteristics. In this paper, we theoretically analyze the ES detection loss for the circular scar and propose the model to evaluate it quantitatively. The experiment results for the real search radar signals demonstrate that the proposed model is suitable for the evaluation model of the ES detection loss related to the circular scan of radars.

  • Passive emitter localization is preferred to use a small number of receivers as possible for the efficiency of strategic management in the field of modern electronic warfare support. Accurate emitter localization can be expected when utilizing continuous measurable parameters and a appropriate combination of theirs. For this reason, we compare CRLB (Cramer-Rao lower bound) of two moving platform with various measurable parameters to choose a appropriate combination of parameters for a better localization performance. And we propose the passive emitter localization method based on Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm with combined TDOA/FDOA and DOA to achieve better accuracy of emitter localization which is located on the ground and stationary. In addition, we present a method for determining the initial emitter position for LM algorithm's input to avoid the divergence of estimation and local minimum.

  • The accuracy of instantaneous passive emitter localization varies with sensing platforms and measurable parameters. Appropriate combination of instantaneous measurable parameters have more accurate localization performance than a single parameter based localization in general. Emitter localization is preferred to use a small number of receivers as possible for the efficiency of strategic management in the field of modern electronic warfare support. For this reason, we compare CRLB (Cramer-Rao lower bound) of two moving platform with various measurable parameters to search a appropriate choice of parameters for the better localization performance through the x-y axis CEP (circular error probable) derived form CLRB. In addition, we present the relation of the localization performance and accuracy of measurable parameters.

  • This paper proposes the design and measurement of a 6-18 GHz front-end receiver module that has been combined into a one- channel output from a two-channel input for electronic warfare support measures (ESM) applications. This module includes a limiter, high-pass filter (HPF), power combiner, equalizer and amplifier. This paper focuses on the design aspects of reducing the noise figure (NF) and matching the phase and amplitude. The NF, linear equalizer, power divider, and HPF were considered in the design. A broadband receiver based on a combined configuration used to obtain low NF. We verify that our receiver module improves the noise figure by as much as 0.78 dB over measured data with a maximum of 5.54 dB over a 6-18 GHz bandwidth; the difference value of phase matching is within $7^{\circ}$ between ports.
