Radar Pulse Clustering using Kernel Density Window (커널 밀도 윈도우를 이용한 레이더 펄스 클러스터링)

  • As radar signal environments become denser and more complex, the capability of high-speed and accurate signal analysis is required for ES(Electronic warfare Support) system to identify individual radar signals at real-time. In this paper, we propose the new novel clustering algorithm of radar pulses to alleviate the load of signal analysis process and support reliable analysis. The proposed algorithm uses KDE(Kernel Density Estimation) and its CDF(Cumulative Distribution Function) to compose clusters considering the distribution characteristics of pulses. Simulation results show the good performance of the proposed clustering algorithm in clustering and classifying the emitters.

  • The blanking interface between an ES system and a radar system on the same platform cause the unwanted radar signal separation in the process of the signal measurement of the ES system. In this paper, we propose the novel radar signal blanking method for ES. The proposed method extracts a standard of judgement which we can decide whether a radar signal is separated by the blanking interface and presents how to merge the separated signals. Test result is presented to show the performance of the proposed method.

  • This research paper on Tac-ELINT SW development method using M&S system describes the validation and verification methods of Tac-ELINT ground operating software development each stages, and the method of improving reusability of software using SBD(Simulation Based Design/Development) concept. In this project, We obtain the EW software SBD technologies and improved Tac-ELINT ground operating software through software crisis mitigation. This method and technology will expect to support a future EW system and any other various weapon software development.

  • The direction finder is an important device for an electronic support(ES) system because it is responsible for finding the direction of an emitter. The higher the accuracy of the direction finding, the higher the vitality of the weapon system with the ES system. Recently, the direction error occurred in the operating shipboard ES system when direction finding was performed for the signal with a pulse width of 200 ns. Therefore, this paper proposes, an improved method to reduce the direction error for shipboard ES systems. The proposed method was applied to the operating shipboard ES system and a field test was performed. The results of the field test showed that the direction error was reduced significantly for the signal with a pulse width of 200 ns.

  • In wireless environments, wideband receivers are used in a communication intelligent system to detect unknown signals and obtain azimuth information. To design a wideband receiver that performs multiple signal detection and direction finding simultaneously, it is necessary to consider a reception structure composed of multiple channels. In this paper, we propose a wideband multi-channel receiver for direction finding of unknown wideband communication signals including frequency hopping signals. A signal processing method for detecting received signals and estimating azimuth information is presented, and components of the manufactured wideband receiver are described. In addition, test results of the signal detection performance by mounting the proposed wideband multi-channel receiver on the flight system are included.

Application and Performance Analysis of Machine Learning for GPS Jamming Detection (GPS 재밍탐지를 위한 기계학습 적용 및 성능 분석)

  • As the damage caused by GPS jamming has been increased, researches for detecting and preventing GPS jamming is being actively studied. This paper deals with a GPS jamming detection method using multiple GPS receiving channels and three-types machine learning techniques. Proposed multiple GPS channels consist of commercial GPS receiver with no anti-jamming function, receiver with just anti-noise jamming function and receiver with anti-noise and anti-spoofing jamming function. This system enables user to identify the characteristics of the jamming signals by comparing the coordinates received at each receiver. In this paper, The five types of jamming signals with different signal characteristics were entered to the system and three kinds of machine learning methods(AB: Adaptive Boosting, SVM: Support Vector Machine, DT: Decision Tree) were applied to perform jamming detection test. The results showed that the DT technique has the best performance with a detection rate of 96.9% when the single machine learning technique was applied. And it is confirmed that DT technique is more effective for GPS jamming detection than the binary classifier techniques because it has low ambiguity and simple hardware. It was also confirmed that SVM could be used only if additional solutions to ambiguity problem are applied.

A Study on Optimal Deployment for Improvement of EMI between MOSCOS and ES DF Antenna on a Surface Ship (수상함 MOSCOS와 ES 방향탐지 안테나간의 전자기 간섭 개선을 위한 최적배치 연구)

  • During the sea trial, we discovered EMI between MOSCOS and ES DF antenna. CW emitted by MOSCOS raised the threshold level of ES DF antenna. As a result, direction finding rate of ES has been decreased. This is a study for the improvement of EMI between the antennas mounted on a surface ship. An analysis is accomplished for MOSCOS, ES DF antenna and Jamming transmitter. This paper presents the method how to solve EMI based on the measurements and calculations about the ES DF antenna receiving level, MOSCOS radiation pattern and Jamming transmitter thermal noise. The test was performed with optimal deployment of MOSCOS on a surface ship. After changing the position of MOSCOS, EMI has been decreased significantly.

  • This research describes the ConOps(Concept of Operations) of sea-based guided weapon systems. The ConOps describes how the proposed system is to be used and is more descriptive than technical in terms of various stakeholders. It should be prepared to support the concept of the life cycle stage of the system. Developing ConOps plays an important role in ensuring that operational/maintenance, maintenance, and acquisition and development areas are better understood by users' needs and expectations. In this point of view, this work presents the process of deriving ConOps and aims to derive operational concept of maritime guided weapon system by using tools.

  • If one were to say that war is political in its nature, then war could be one of the several ways of achieving political goals. Thus, the aspect of wars will, in certainty, be altered by the changes in political environment. Wars in the past broke out mainly due to ideological differences that ran to extremes and were of high intensity. However, wars today show such restraints as controlling them beforehand or during the war in anticipation of the post-war situation. The trend of ideas to actualize such wars in the effective operation of airpower is on the rise. Airpower normally possesses speed and operative flexibility as well as capability of destruction, so it is possible to destroy the politically declared targets clearly. Previous airpower was merely employed as means of helping to vertically detouring the spatial obstacle that the ground forces encountered. Over the years, due to the speedy improvement of aviation technology and of ideas concerning wars in space, more advanced application has been developed. but they also were nothing more than an auxiliary role to facilotate the ground forces, that needed a longer effective range of firepower and did not become forces with the right of self-determination, that is, the fact of decisive war that makes its outcome. However, under transitional strategic environment like that of the present, Airpower possesses not only the capability to operate as a decisive means of war but also as theories to support it. The advancement in air technology has enabled supremacy over targets in depth, and the development of electronic technology has empowered the improvement of degree of destruction but also triumphant war by means of an overwhelming supremacy in a relatively short period. Thus, the method of systematic destruction that accomplishes the stated goals while rejecting the damage of accumulative destruction has been realized. The progress of such a concept has also proved that the counter-force strategy that has been developed in nuclear strategy is useful in conventional warfare as well. Therefore, it can be said that the under today's strategic environment airpower is an outstanding means of military strategy that can deeply affect to achieve the national objectives.

Development of Compact and Lightweight Broadband Power Amplifier with HMIC Technology (HMIC 기술을 적용한 소형화 경량화 광대역 전력증폭기 개발)

  • This paper presents the development of compact and lightweight broadband power amplifier module using HMIC (Hybrid Microwave Integrated Circuit) technology that could be high-density integration for many non-packaged microwave components into the small area of a high dielectric constant printed circuit board, such as a ceramic substrate, also using the special design and fabrication schemes for the structure of minimized electromagnetic interference to obtain the homogeneous electrical performance at the wideband frequency. The results confirmed that the small signal gain has a gain flatness of ${\pm}1.5dB$ within the range of 32 to 36 dB. In addition, the output power satisfied more than 30 dBm. The noise figure was measured within 7 dB, and OIP3 (Output Third Order Intercept Point) was more than 39 dBm. The fabricated broadband power amplifier satisfied the target specification required to electrically drive the high power amplifiers of jamming generators for electronic warfare, so the actual applicability to the system was verified. Future studies will be aimed at designing other similar microwave power amplifiers in the future.
