Study of an In-order SMT Architecture and Grouping Schemes

  • In this paper, we propose a simultaneous multithreading (SMT) architecture that improves instruction throughput by exploiting instruction level parallelism (ILP) and thread level parallelism (TLP). The proposed architecture issues and completes instructions belonging to the same thread in exact program order. The issue and completion policy greatly reduces the design complexity and hardware cost of our architecture, compared with others that employ out-of-order issue and completion. On the other hand, when the instructions belong to different threads, the issue and completion orders for those instructions may not necessarily be identical to the fetch order. The processor issues instructions simultaneously from multiple threads to functional units by exploiting ILP and TLP, and by dynamic resource sharing. That parallel execution notably improves performance and resource utilization with minimal additional hardware cost over the conventional superscalar processors. This paper proposes an SMT architecture with grouping as well as one without grouping. Without grouping, all threads dynamically and flexibly share most resources. On the other hand, in the SMT architecture with grouping, in which resources and threads are divided into several groups for design simplification, resources are shared only among threads belonging to the same group as those resources. Simulation results show that our processors with four and eight threads improve performance by three or more times over the conventional superscalar processor with comparable execution resources and policies, and that reasonable grouping reduces the design complexity of SMT processors with little negative effect on performance.

  • Recently advanced countries are making every effort to promote the efficiency of electric power production and supply, to deal with the environmental problems, and to develop the new energy. In particular, they are driving forward to develop various technologies for electric power in mid-long term, that are technology for building infrastructure of power transportation, establishing service network for account management using electronic technologies, elevating economic productivity by innovative electronic technologies, control-ling the discharge of global warming gas, using clean efficient energy, and so forth. However, power technology of Korea lagged behind than technology of advanced countries. Also, resources for developing power technology are limited in our country. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the efficiency of R&D investment. For it, our country must compare and analyze with technologies of advanced countries which are taking competitive advantage in the main future energy. Through comparative analysis, limited R&D resources of our country must be concentrated on technologies that can secure competitive advantage from now on.

의학도서관 이용자의 전자저널 서비스품질 지각과 만족도 분석: K대학교 의과대학 교수 및 대학원생을 중심으로 (Analysis on the Perception of the Service Quality and Satisfaction on the Electronic Journals of Medical Library Users)

  • 이 연구는 의학도서관 이용자의 전자저널에 대한 서비스품질 지각과 만족도에 관해 분석하기 위해 K대학교 의과대학의 교수와 대학원생을 대상으로 수행되었다. 두 집단은 서비스품질에 대한 지각에서 통계적으로 유의한 차이를 보여주었다. 하위차원에 대한 분석에서는 사용편리성, 접근성, 콘텐트자원은 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 없으나, 지원성에서는 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 전자저널에 대한 만족도와 가치에 대한 지각은 두 항목 모두 교수집단이 통계적으로 유의하게 높은 것을 나타났다. 서비스품질의 구성차원이 만족도에 미치는 영향과 관련해서는, 지원성과 사용편리성, 콘텐트 자원의 순으로 영향을 미치는 것으로 분석되었으며, 접근성은 유의한 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 서비스품질과 그 구성차원이 만족도에 미치는 영향에서 가치의 조절효과는 통계적으로 유의한 영향을 보여주지 못하였다.

전자문헌 개발도구에 관한 고찰 - SGML, HTML과 PDF를 중심으로 - (A Study on Tools to Develop Electronic Documents)

  • 정보의 이용과 보존에 따른 시간적, 공간적 한계를 극복하기 위해서 컴퓨터와 네트워크 기술을 기반으로 하는 전자도서관에 대한 국가적인 관심과 지원이 더욱 증대되고 있다. 전자도서관의 궁극적 목적인 정보의 자유로운 유통과 관리를 위한 전자문헌형식과 이에 대한 표준화는 오늘날 중요한 논점으로서 부각되고 있다. 현재, 디지털 정보를 담을 수 있는 다양한 전자문헌개발을 위한 도구들이 있으며, 여러 분야에서 활용되고 있다. 그러나, 단지 특정한 전자문헌개발도구만이 전자도서관을 구축하기 위한 도구로서 기능적인 측면에서나 전자문헌의 제작에 있어서 절대적인 우위성을 갖고 있지는 못하다. 즉, 개개의 도구들은 전자문헌의 형식과 기능 및 정보량에 따른 검색의 효율성에 따라서 상대적인 장, 단점을 가지고 있다. 본 연구에서는 향후의 전자도서관에서 전자문헌이 갖추어야 할 기본조건들과 전자문헌의 개발을 위한 도구로서 사용되어질 대표적인 전자문헌개발도구인 SGML, HTML과 PDF에 의한 전자문헌의 제작 방법과 특징들을 살펴보고, 각각의 상대적인 장, 단점을 비교, 분석함으로써 미래의 전자도서관에서의 자료유형에 따라 적응될 수 있는 적절한 전자문헌개발도구를 제안하였다.

전자저널 이용통계서비스의 품질평가에 대한 연구 (Evaluation on the Quality of Electronic Journal Usage Report Service)

  • 인터넷을 통한 웹 콘텐츠가 증가하면서 도서관 장서구성에서 전자자원의 비중이 점차 확대되고 있다. 장서의 선정, 유지, 구독중단을 위한 평가기준은 여러 가지가 있으나, 전자저널의 경우에는 이 용량에 근거한 평가가 중요한 비중을 차지하고 있다. 이에 본고에서는 전자저널 이용통계의 역할과 문제점 등에 대해 살펴본 후 ICOLC, COUNTER의 지침을 중심으로 전자저널 이용통계 요소를 추출하여 전자저널 출판사별 통계서비스에 대해 평가해 보았다. 그 결과 COUNTER 실행코드 채택이후 전자저널 이용통계서비스가 많이 개선되었으나, 장서평가에 활용되기에는 여전히 미흡한 부분이 존재하고 있었다. 전자저널 이용통계가 도서관 장서평가에 활용되기 위해서는 도서관, 관련 단체, 출판사 등의 협력을 통해 좀더 구체적이고 표준화된 이용통계 요소가 개발되어야 하고, 전자저널 출판사, 대행사들은 이를 적극적으로 수용해야 할 것이다.

Optimal Selection of Wavelet Coefficients for Electrocardiograph Compression

  • This paper presents a simple method to implement a complete on-line portable wireless holter including an electrocardiogram (ECG) monitoring, processing, and communication protocol. The proposed algorithm significantly reduces the hardware resources of threshold estimation for ECG compression, using the standard deviation updated with each new input signal sample. The new method achieves superior performance in terms of hardware complexity, channel occupation and memory requirements, while keeping the ECG quality at a clinically acceptable level.

Automatic Mapping Between Large-Scale Heterogeneous Language Resources for NLP Applications: A Case of Sejong Semantic Classes and KorLexNoun for Korean

  • This paper proposes a statistical-based linguistic methodology for automatic mapping between large-scale heterogeneous languages resources for NLP applications in general. As a particular case, it treats automatic mapping between two large-scale heterogeneous Korean language resources: Sejong Semantic Classes (SJSC) in the Sejong Electronic Dictionary (SJD) and nouns in KorLex. KorLex is a large-scale Korean WordNet, but it lacks syntactic information. SJD contains refined semantic-syntactic information, with semantic labels depending on SJSC, but the list of its entry words is much smaller than that of KorLex. The goal of our study is to build a rich language resource by integrating useful information within SJD into KorLex. In this paper, we use both linguistic and statistical methods for constructing an automatic mapping methodology. The linguistic aspect of the methodology focuses on the following three linguistic clues: monosemy/polysemy of word forms, instances (example words), and semantically related words. The statistical aspect of the methodology uses the three statistical formulae ${\chi}^2$, Mutual Information and Information Gain to obtain candidate synsets. Compared with the performance of manual mapping, the automatic mapping based on our proposed statistical linguistic methods shows good performance rates in terms of correctness, specifically giving recall 0.838, precision 0.718, and F1 0.774.

전기폭발방식을 이용한 동(Cu) 미분 제조 및 인가전압의 영향 (The effects of applied voltage on copper powder manufactured by electric explosion)

  • Wire electrical explosion(WEE) has been used for the production of fine metal particles. In WEE, electrical powder was stored and compressed into capacitor and released to produce fine particles through evaporation and condensation. In this study, the effect of applied voltage on the size of copper powders was investigated. High tension was added up to the explosion device by dividing 4 steps. At voltages lower than 5.2 kV, the fraction of powders finer than $44{\mu}m$ was almost negligible. The effectiveness of explosion increased sharply with increased voltage over 5.8 kV. At the highest voltage of 6.4 kV, more than 80% of explosion products were finer than $44{\mu}m$.

Information Networking and its Application in the Digital Era with Illustration from the University of Port Harcourt Library

  • This paper discussed the factors that necessitated information networking, types of networks, benefits of information networking, library information networking and the University of Port 0Harcourt library network initiatives. Information networking is a process of communication, exchange of ideas, resource sharing and collaboration between individuals, organizations, institutions and libraries and it is facilitated by ICTs and the internet for improved accessibility. It has been brought about by information explosion, rapid advancement in information communication technologies, inadequate funding and increased demand for quality information. Networks can be classified into local, national, regional, and international networks and are formed to serve different categories of user communities. Benefits of information networking include resource sharing, on-line conferences and participation in programmes at distant centers, collaboration among scholars in different countries. Communication flow through the internet, social media, and electronic mail. Library information networking started with the interlibrary loan which has metamorphosed into library consortia in which groups of libraries partner to coordinate activities, share resources and combine expertise. The University of Port Harcourt Library network initiatives started with an e-granary (a CD ROM) and the establishment of a local area network. The library subscribes to more than 10 electronic databases. Information networking has greatly improved the sharing of resources in acquisition and dissemination of information resources since no single institution can acquire the overwhelming number of information resources in their various formats.
