  • An Electronic Nose(E-Nose) and Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectroscopy (GC/MS) are meanwhile conventional technique to analyze volatile materials in many industries (e.g., food, medicine, environment) and have broad acceptance in the analysis of tobacco products. In this study, an experiment where tin oxide gas sensor array responses and GC/MS profiles are used to characterize the volatile compounds of different cigarettes at the same time is performed and the measurements of two instruments are compared for cigarette samples with a known chemical information. E-Nose and GC/MS were employed to differentiate and match flavored cigarettes with commercial tobacco flavoring agents (lavender, vanilla, peppermint, orange, star anise). For verifying reliability of two systems, the analyses were conducted in terms of amount of flavors in each cigarettes using partial least squares (PLS) and with the principal components analysis (PCA). Various chemical sensors and GC/MS data was reduced into two principal factors (PC1, PC2) for being distinguished with visualized regions. Both systems provided adequate results for odor characteristics of cigarettes in this study with each instrument having its own advantages and disadvantages.

  • There exists an inconvenience that players of each instrument pass musical score in orchestra recital. In this paper, we implement the electronic musical score transmitting system that possible to hand sheet music automatically, using Mini - ITX and LCD Panel. We made them unite with a sheet music pair, and it was made and a message and data transmission were embodied using reliable TCP/IP socket communication. In this paper, the client hands sheet music automatic, and server implemented the manual function to manage each clients individually. Because one band can be managed by one Access file all together, it is easy to manage each band. Along with this, this system selects TCP/IP as the reliable transfer protocol that protect loss and errors.

  • The study tested a hybrid model with constructs drawn from the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and Diffusion of Innovation (DOI) theory in order to examine the moderating effect of productivity and relative advantage (RA) on perceived usefulness (PU) vis-à-vis electronic information resources (EIR) adoption in private university libraries in Ogun and Osun States of Nigeria. The descriptive research design was adopted in the study. The population consisted of 61 (55.0%) librarians and 50 (45.0%) library officers (totaling 116—100%) in Babcock University, Bells University, Covenant University, Bowen University, Oduduwa University, and Redeemer's University. Purposive sampling procedure was adopted after which total enumeration was used since the total population is small. The questionnaire was used for data collection. Of the 116 copies of the questionnaire administered, 111 (95.7%) were found usable. The instrument was structured based on a 4-point Likert agreement scale of Strongly Agree, Agree, Disagree, and Strongly Disagree. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics like tables of frequency counts and percentage. The findings revealed that productivity and relative advantage are significant moderators of perceived usefulness of EIR adoption in private university libraries in Ogun and Osun States, Nigeria.

  • A simply structural damage detection software is developed to identification damage in beams. According to linear fracture mechanics theory, the localized additional flexibility in damage vicinity can be represented by a lumped parameter element. The damaged beam is modeled by wavelet-based elements to gain the first three frequencies precisely. The first three frequencies influencing functions of damage location and depth are approximated by means of surface-fitting techniques to gain damage detection database of forward problem. Then the first three measured natural frequencies are employed as inputs to solve inverse problem and the intersection of the three frequencies contour lines predict the damage location and depth. The DLL (Dynamic Linkable Library) file of damage detection method is coded by C++ and the corresponding interface of software is coded by virtual instrument software LabVIEW. Finally, the software is tested on beams and shafts in engineering. It is shown that the presented software can be used in actual engineering structures.

  • This paper presents the development of a software supported acquisition system for metrological verification and testing of the equipment for monitoring and analysis of the basic electrical power quality parameters. The described procedure consists of two functionally connected segments. The first segment involves generation of the reference three-phase voltage signals, including the possibility of simulation of the various power quality disturbances, typical for electrical power distribution networks. The second part of this procedure includes the real-time recording of power quality disturbances in three-phase distribution networks. The procedure is functionally supported by the virtual instrumentation concept, including a software application developed in LabVIEW environment and data acquisition boards NI 6713 and NI 9215A. The software support of this system performs graphical presentation of the previously generated and recorded signal waveforms. A number of the control functions and buttons, implemented on the virtual instrument front panels, are provided to adjust the basic signal acquisition, generation and recording parameters.

  • Measuring the distance between benchmarks placed on a volcano tens to thousands of meters apart can sometimes pinpoint where and when magma is rising toward the surface. Rising magma will sometimes push overlying rocks upward or shove them aside. In either case, one part of the volcano may actually move horizontally relative to another part from as little as a few millimeters to as much as several tens of meters. The challenge in measuring such changes with an electronic distance meter is putting benchmarks in the right places and making frequent measurements between pairs of benchmarks. An electronic distance meter is an instrument that both sends and receives an electromagnetic signal. Depending on the distance between the EDM and reflector, the wavelength of the returned signal will be out of phase with the transmitted signal. The instrument compares the phase of the transmitted and received signals and measures the phase difference electronically. There is a wide range of EDM capabilities in range and precision, but for volcano monitoring purposes, short-range (less than 10 km) to medium-range (less than 50 km) EDM's are typically used. Short-range EDM's transmit and receive the near visible infrared part of the electromagnetic spectrum for measuring distances with an accuracy of about 5 mm.

  • In this paper, A real-time channel module which can apply the wireless propagation channel was developed using USRP and Lab-VIEW. When the proposed channel module is used in conjunction with the implemented HW(hardware) simulators for cognitive radio and frequency interference analysis and so on, it can increase the reliability about wireless propagation environments. In addition, the proposed module overcomes the limit of existing HW simulator that data transfer rate is limitative in communication system through the design of the inner parts. Along with this, it is possible to apply channel parameters necessary to estimate the easier communication performance. Also, this has the advantage that it can be flexibly applied in implementing the communication channel with the upcoming new scenarios. The proposed module can estimate the communication performance via constellation and BER using the implemented module.

  • Currently, the domestic interests on the development of eyesight related measuring instruments are being increased. So we are developing such an electronic system of Refracto-keratometer, which contains a software and a hardware both. If this system could inform the examiner of the precise eyesight measuring result from the treatment of the image of optical system, then potentially the number of missed measuring results could be reduced. Our electronic system has been developed from the two areas divided into a software and a hardware. The software area was focused on the more exact eyesight measuring results, using morphological filtering methods and gray-leveled signal enhancing techniques. The hardware area is performing the same functions as the existing other systems. Besides, it provides the embedded software with free variables which could reduce the developing duration sharply as well as enlarge many kinds of application-extensions. Therefore, this electronic system has made effective eyesight measurement possible as the result of reducing the differences applied to sophisticated eyesight measurement.

  • The biomedical information (heart rate, HRV, $SpO_2$ etc) from the Photoplethysmography (PPG) signal section can be estimated without the motion artifacts if the PPG signal section in the motion artifacts is detected accurately. But the PPG signal is easily exposed to the motion artifacts by the decrease of the medical instrument size and applying as portable or wearable. Besides, it is difficult to completely eliminate the motion artifacts from the PPG signal without distortion and ensure reliability as well. In this paper, the method was suggested to determine the motion artifacts or not on the PPG signal of the section divided into intervals of constant length. By comparing the spectrum of each section, it can be determined whether the motion artifacts are or not after obtaining the spectrum of each section by the Goertzel algorithm. Moreover, an amount of computation while maintaining a high detection rate can be reduced by using the Goertzel algorithm.
