리튬이온 및 리튬폴리머 배터리의 폭발과 화재 위험성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Explosion and Fire Risk of Lithium-Ion and Lithium-Polymer Battery)

  • 리튬 이온 및 리튬 폴리머 배터리는 체적 에너지 저장 밀도가 높아 전자담배, 스마트폰, 전기자전거, 드론, 보조배터리 등과 같은 다양한 전자기기에 사용되며 심지어 골프카트 및 전기자동차에도 사용되고 있다. 그러나 최근 리튬 배터리를 사용하는 다양한 전자기기에서 충전 중 배터리 폭발현상이 빈번히 발생하고 있으며 폭발로 인하여 화재 및 신체 위해가 발생하고 있어 그 심각성이 대두되고 있다. 이를 위해 본 논문에서는 이러한 리튬 배터리의 작동 원리를 알아보고, 재현실험을 통하여 폭발 원인을 검증해 보았으며 이를 통하여 화재감식 기법 개발과 안전대책을 수립하기 위한 연구를 진행하였다.

소셜 빅데이터를 활용한 담배 위험 예측 (Predicting tobacco risk factors by using social big data)

  • 본 연구는 국내의 블로그, 카페, SNS 등 인터넷을 통해 수집된 소셜 빅데이터를 데이터마이닝 분석 기법을 적용하여 우리나라 국민의 담배에 대한 위험요인을 예측하고자 하였다. 주요분석 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 온라인상에 '담뱃값인상'이 언급될 경우 담배에 대한 일반군 (negative)이 58.6%에서 74.8%로 증가하며, '폐암'이 언급될 경우 73.1%로 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 담뱃값인상 이후 담배에 대한 위험군 (positive)은 5.6% 감소하고, 일반군은 6.1% 증가한 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 'FCTC, 담뱃값인상, 금연관련법, 흡연규제, 금연광고, 금연사업'과 관련된 정책이 온라인상에 많이 언급될수록 담배에 대한 위험군이 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. 마지막으로 '금연약, 금연패치, 금연껌'이 온라인 상에 언급될수록 담배에 대한 위험군이 감소하나, '전자담배와 보조제'가 온라인상에 언급될수록 담배에 대한 위험군을 증가시키는 것으로 나타났다.

Accidental ingestion of E-cigarette liquid nicotine in a 15-month-old child: an infant mortality case of nicotine intoxication

  • Electronic cigarettes are novel tobacco products that are frequently used these days. The cartridge contains liquid nicotine and accidental poisoning, even with a small oral dose, endangers children. We present here a mortality case of a 15-month-old child who ingested liquid nicotine mistaking it for cold medicine. When the emergency medical technicians arrived, she was found to have pulseless electrical activity. Spontaneous circulation was restored after approximately 40 minutes of cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The cotinine level in her urine was 1,716 ng/mL. Despite intensive supportive care, severe anoxic brain injury was found on computed tomography and the child ultimately died. This fatality highlights the need for public health efforts to minimize such accidents.

한국 성인들의 흡연유형과 정신건강과의 관계 (Relationship between Smoking Type and Mental Health in Korean Adults)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationship between dual smoking and mental health. Methods: This study was conducted on 5,879 Korean adults, and a logistic regression analysis was conducted to investigate the relationship between smoking type and mental health. Results: The types of smoking were surveyed as 'dual smoking' 6.1%, 'electronic cigarette' 1.7%, 'general smoking' 12.1%, and 'non-smoking' 80.1%.. The risk of diagnosing depression in the dual smoking group was 2.87 times higher than in the non-smoking group, the risk of depression was 1.66 times higher than in the non-smoking group, and the risk of stress was 1.62 times higher. Conclusion: Even in adulthood, health education such as smoking prevention education and smoking cessation education should be conducted.

대학생의 흡연행태가 수면의 질에 미치는 영향 (The effect of smoking behavior on sleep quality in university students)

  • 본 연구는 대학생들의 수면의 질에 영향을 미치는 흡연행태를 파악하여 대학생 및 20대 청년층을 대상으로 한 국가 흡연예방 및 금연 정책의 기초자료로 사용되고자 한다. 2017년 5월 29일에서 2017년 6월 2일까지 5일간 대학생 291명을 대상으로 흡연행태와 PSQI(Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index) 설문지를 통해 수면의 질을 측정하였다. 다중 로지스틱 회귀분석을 Step-wise로 시행한 결과 학년이 증가할수록 OR=2.542-2.820배 수면의 질이 악화되었고, 비흡연자와 금연자에 비해 1갑 미만 흡연할 경우 OR=3.126배, 1갑 이상 흡연을 할 경우 OR=12.388배로 수면의 질이 악화되었다. 또한 일반담배 흡연자 중 수면의 질이 좋지 않은 대학생은 72.4%이나 전자담배 또는 가향담배 흡연자는 수면의 질이 좋지 않은 대학생이 82.6%로 일반담배보다 전자담배 또는 가향담배가 수면의 질을 더 악화시켰다. 수면의 질을 개선하기 위해서는 금연이 필수적이나 금연이 쉽지는 않으므로 국가차원에서 법적인 규제와 정책을 운영할 필요가 있고, 단계적 집중 금연관리를 해줄 수 있는 시스템 또는 서비스가 필요하다.

주택특성에 관련된 실내 이산화질소 농도에 관한 연구 (A Study on Concentration of Indoor Nitrogen Dioxide in Relation to House Characteristics)

  • Indoor air quality tends to be the dominant contributor to personal exposure because most people spend over 90% of their time indoors. For some contaminants, exposure to indoor air poses a potentially greater health threat than outdoor air exposures. Indoor nitrogen dioxide ($NO_2$) levels are mainly affected gas range, flue gas spillage, kerosene heaters, wood-burning appliances and cigarette smoke. In addition, indoor $NO_2$ levels are influenced by such house characterization as surface reaction and air exchange rate. In this study, the measurements of indoor and outdoor $NO_2$ concentrations were taken using identical protocols, and information was collected on housing characteristics using identical questionnaires in 14 houses out of 15 houses for daily 30 daily 30 days in Brisbane, Australia.The usage of gas range was the most contributing factor in indoor $NO_2$ concentration in relation to house characteristics. Average indoor and outdoor ratios of NO2 concentration in electronic and gas cooking houses were $0.6{\pm}0.1$ and $0.9{\pm}0.2$, respectively. The frequency distributions of $NO_2$ concentration in each house were approximately log-normal Geometric mean of indoor $NO_2$ concentrations of electronic and gas cooking houses for daily 30 days ranged from 2.5 ppm to 11.5 ppm with a mean 6.8 and from 4.7 ppm to 28.6 ppm with a mean 15.6 ppm, respectively. The $NO_2$ concentrations between electronic and gas cooking houses were significantly different (p<0.05). Since each house has different life-style and house characteristics, sampling interval to measure the $NO_2$ levels was recommended above 7 days.

이형협심증 환자의 혈관내피세포 기능저하에 영향을 미치는 심혈관질환 위험인자 (Cardiovascular Risk Factors Predicting Endothelial Dysfunction in Patients with Variant Angina)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to identify the clinical characteristics and risk factors on the occurrence of variant angina, and to examine the predicting factors on the vascular endothelial dysfunction of the patients with variant angina. Methods: A total of 134 patients diagnosed with variant angina were recruited from 2006 to 2008. The degrees of endothelial dysfunction were measured and recorded by the researcher using the values of flow-mediated vasodilation of their brachial arteries and Nitroglycerine-mediated dilation. Subjects' demographic data and risk factors were gathered after obtaining informed consent, and their electronic medical records were reviewed to collect laboratory data. Results: The mean age was $54.2{\pm}9.6$ years and 52% was male patients. More than 50% of the male patients were cigarette smokers and had hypercholesterolemia. 84% of the male patients and 70% of the female patients had more than one risk factor of cardiovascular disease. A stepwise multiple regression analysis showed that smoking and hypercholesterolemia predicted the decrease of flow-mediated vasodilation (Adjusted $R^2$ = .204, p < .001). Conclusion: Tailored educational interventions for smoking cessation and cholesterol management are needed to prevent recurrence of angina attack for patients with variant angina and to prevent cardiovascular disease for middle-aged workers.

Factors Related to Smoking Status Among Young Adults: An Analysis of Younger and Older Young Adults in Korea

  • Objectives: Young adulthood represents a critical developmental period during which the use of tobacco may begin or cease. Furthermore, differences in smoking behaviors between younger (aged 18-24 years) and older (aged 25-34 years) young adults may exist. This study aimed to characterize patterns related to current smoking in younger and older young adults. Methods: This study used data acquired from the Sixth Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey conducted from 2013 to 2014. A total of 2069 subjects were categorized as younger (712 subjects) and older (1357 subjects) young adults. The chi-square test was used to assess the relationships between smoking status and socio-demographic, health-related, and smoking-related factors. Multivariable logistic regression models were constructed to assess the factors affecting current smoking in these age groups. Results: The current smoking prevalence was 18.3% among the younger young adults and 26.0% among the older young adults. Sex, education level, occupation, perceived health status, alcohol consumption, and electronic cigarette use were related to current smoking in both age groups. Secondhand smoke exposure at home and stress levels showed significant relationships with smoking in younger and older young adults, respectively. Conclusions: Strong correlations were found between the observed variables and smoking behaviors among young adults. Determining the factors affecting smoking and designing interventions based on these factors are essential for smoking cessation in young adults.

발화열원에 따른 화재발생 특성 분석 (Analysis of Fire Occurrence Characteristics According to Ignition Heat Sources)

  • 연구목적: 본 연구에서는 발화열원을 작동기기, 담뱃불·라이터불, 불꽃·불티 등 발화열원에 따른 화재 발생의 특징을 알아보고자 하였다. 연구방법: 일원배치 분산분석과 교차분석을 이용하여 발화열원에 따른 발화환경, 화재피해 현황 및 규모, 발화원인과의 차이 검증을 통해 화재발생 특성을 분석하였다. 연구결과: 작동기기에 의해 발생한 화재는 다른 발화열원에 비해 평일에 발생 빈도가 높고, 이재세대수와 이재민 발생이 가장 많아 소방력 동원과 재산피해가 가장 큰 것으로 나타났다. 최초착화물은 전기·전자기기에 의해 발생되었으며, 합성수지에 의해 연소가 확대되는 특징을 보였다. 담뱃불·라이터불에 의해 발생하는 화재는 토·일요일에 화재가 가장 많이 발생되었으며, 소방력 동원보다는 경찰력 동원이 많은 특징을 보였다. 특히, 최초착화물과 연소확대물은 종이·목재·건초에 의해 발생하는 것으로 나타났다. 불꽃·불티에 의해 발생하는 화재는 토·일요일에 화재가 가장 많이 발생되었으며, 최초착화물과 연소확대물은 종이·목재·건초에 의해 발생하는 것으로 나타났다. 특히, 소방서와의 거리가 가장 먼 곳에서 발생하고 있는 특징을 보였다. 모든 발화열원에서의 공통적인 특징은 오후시간대에 화재가 가장 많았으며, 화재유형은 건축구조물화재가 지배적이었고 발화지점만 연소되는 경우가 가장 많은 것으로 나타났다. 결론: 대형 화재가 발생하게 될 확률은 높아지고 있기 때문에 화재 예방 및 피해를 최소화 하기 위해서는 화재 발생 경향을 분석하고 화재발생 요인에 따른 적절한 대비를 해야 한다. 향후 공공데이터를 이용한 화재발생 특성 분석을 위해서는 재난 데이터의 표준화와, 데이터 개방 및 활성화가 필요하다.

신종담배의 출현과 정책방향: 전자담배 및 가열담배에 대한 전략 (The Government Policies of New Tobacco Products: Strategies for Managing Electronic Cigarettes and Heated Tobacco Products)

  • The term new tobacco products (NTPs) refers to the new alternatives to conventional cigarettes. There are several kinds of NTPs in South Korea. The present study discusses the most widely used NTPs namely electronic cigarette (ECs) and heated tobacco products (HTPs). The aims of this study are to evaluate the risk related to the use of ECs and HTPs, introduce policy examples across different countries of management of this issue, and finally, present some policy implications of the problem and our response strategies. Since the advent of ECs, there has been a lot of debate about its risk. Some studies have reported that ECs are less harmful than conventional cigarettes and that they are effective in aiding smoking cessation. Nevertheless, the efficacy of ECs in smoking cessation and its potential health risks are still unclear. However, the obvious fact is that it is not harmless. Regulations on ECs differ from country to country. In many countries, they are strictly regulated as tobacco or toxic substances; however, in the United Kingdom, the use of ECs are included as part of their smoking cessation policy, and in Japan, they are treated as a form of medication. On the other hand, HTPs are the most recently introduced NTPs and they have attained sensational popularity because of the wrongly held belief that they are less harmful to health. So, what about our policy response to these two tobacco products? The research on ECs requires more systematic statistical monitoring, such as monitoring the ratio of dual-users. Further, the new EC smokers should be identified taking into account that the arguments for the use of ECs often emphasize smoking cessation or less risks to health, the government should further strengthen its policy to prevent those claims. The HTPs market experienced a very sharp growth and continues to grow because the government policy is too passive. Taking this as a lesson, it is necessary to approach NTPs, such as HTPs, proactively and increase their contribution to the National Health Promotion Fund by imposing greater taxes on them. Finally, considering the likelihood of NTPs being promoted as a less harmful tobacco product, it is essential to strictly regulate tobacco companies' publicity from the very beginning to ensure that potential consumer s are not mislead.
