  • This paper propose implementation method of SoC system for efficient depth image segmentation. SoC systems are combined platform in the form of the Software and Hardware IP. In order to perform effectively, the user to determine the operation of the configuration of each part. In this paper, we implemented a segmentation of depth images taken by the infrared sensor at APU of SoC system. The proposed method efficiently implements high performance and low power in SoC system. Proposed method that using software parts of SoC system is capable to use at several depth image processing systems.

  • This paper presents a novel bio-mimetic quadruped walking robot with a waist joint, which connects the front and the rear parts of the body. The new robot, called ELIRO-1(Eating LIzard RObot version 1), can bend its body while the legs is transferred, thereby increasing the stride and speed of the robot. The waist-jointed walking robot can move easily from side to side, which is an important feature to guarantee a larger gait stability margin than that of a conventional single rigid-body walking robot. We design the mechanical structure of the robot, which is small and light to have high movability and high degree of human friendship. In this paper, we describe characteristics of the waist joint and leg mechanism as well as the analysis using ADAMS to select appropriate actuators. In addition, a hardware and software of the controller of ELIRO-1 are described.

  • In this paper, we proposed a new MCTF (Motion Compensated Temporal Filtering) technique and its hardware (H/W) architecture for SVC (Scalable Video Coding). Since the proposed MCTF Kernel has a extensible architecture, it executes temporal filtering using (5,3) and (3,1) lifting operation. Also it has the same output data rate as the input, and it can continuously produce filtered frames after some latency time. Since the proposed architecture has simpler architecture than previous ones, it is easily mapped into H/W and has optimized memory usage rate and low cost.

A MAS Information Management Method for WiMedia MAC Protocol

  • In this paper, a MAS information management method is proposed for the WiMedia MAC protocol. WiMedia MAC configures a fully distributed network based on Ad-hoc method. WiMedia devices communicate during Superframe which is a communication unit in WiMedia MAC. Each superframe which consist of 256 MASs is divided into two periods, beacon period and data period. In data period, devices communicate with each other using the received channel access information during the beacon period. Due to only $12{\mu}s$ timing allowance between beacon period and data period, the process of the MAS information management cannot be completed in time if entire process handle by software. Therefore, we propose a novel MAS information management method using hardware module. With our proposed method, a WiMedia device is satisfied with the processing time that is required in WiMedia MAC protocol.

  • A controller area network (CAN) controller is an integral part of an electronic control unit, particularly in an advanced driver assistance system application, and its characteristics should always be advantageous in all aspects of functionality especially in real time application. The cost should be low, while maintaining the functionality and reliability of the technology. However, a CAN protocol implementing serial operation results in slow throughput, especially in a cyclical redundancy checking (CRC) unit. In this paper, digital signal processing (DSP) algorithms are implemented, namely pipelining, unfolding, and retiming the CAN controller in the CRC unit, particularly for the encoder and decoder sections. It must attain a feasible iteration bound, a critical path that is appropriate for a CAN system, and must obtain a superior design of a high-speed parallel circuit for the CRC unit in order to have a faster transmission rate. The source code for the encoder and decoder was formulated in the Verilog hardware description language.

  • This paper presents a new non-constraining online optical handwritten signature reconstruction system that, in the main, makes use of a transparent glass pad placed in front of a color camera. The reconstruction approach allows efficient exploitation of hand activity during a signing process; thus, the system as a whole can be seen as a viable alternative to other similar acquisition tools. This proposed system allows people with physical or emotional problems to carry out their own signatures without having to use a pen or sophisticated acquisition system. Moreover, the developed reconstruction signature algorithms have low computational complexity and are therefore well suited for a hardware implementation on a dedicated smart system.

When studying the impact of intimacy in the human/robot relationship, we have to examine the problems that can arise as a result of physical intimacy(coordination on safety in the hardware side and a soft side). Furthermore, We should also consider the informational aspects of intimacy (recognition technology, and information transport and sharing).

Grid-tied Power Converter for Battery Energy Storage Composed of 2-stage DC-DC Converter

  • This paper proposes a new grid-tied power converter for battery energy storage, which is composed of a 2-stage DC-DC converter and a PWM inverter. The 2-stage DC-DC converter is composed of an LLC resonant converter connected in cascade with a 2-quadrant hybrid-switching chopper. The LLC resonant converter operates in constant duty ratio, while the 2-quadrant hybrid-switching chopper operates in variable duty ratio for voltage regulation. The operation of proposed system was verified through computer simulations. Based on computer simulations, a hardware prototype was built and tested to confirm the technical feasibility of proposed system. The proposed system could have relatively higher efficiency and smaller size than the existing system.
