  • Spectroscopic and electrostatic probe measurements were made to examine plasma characteristics with or without a metal plate for a 10-㎾-class direct-current arcjet Heat fluxes into the plate from the plasma were also evaluated with a Nickel slug and thermocouple arrangement. Ammonia and mixtures of nitrogen and hydrogen were used. The NH$_3$ and $N_2$+3H$_2$ plasmas in the nozzle and in the downstream plume without a plate were in thermodynamical nonequilibrium states. As a result, the H-atom electronic excitation temperature and the $N_2$ molecule-rotational excitation temperature intensively decreased downstream in the nozzle although the NH molecule-rotational excitation temperature did not show an axial decrease. Each temperature was kept in a small range in the plume without a plate except for the NH rotational temperature for NH$_3$ gas. On the other hand, as approaching the plate, the thermodynamical nonequilibrium plasma came to be a temperature-equilibrium one because the plasma flow tended to stagnate in front of the plate. The electron temperature had a small radial variation near the plate. Both the electron number density and the heat flux decreased radially outward, and an increase in H$_2$ mole fraction raised them at a constant radial position. In cases with NH$_3$ and $N_2$+3H$_2$ a large number of NH radical with a radially wide distribution was considered to cause a large amount of energy loss, i.e., frozen flow loss, for arcjet thrusters.

  • Vertically aligned zinc oxide (ZnO) nanorods (NRs) with different surface morphology were grown by metal organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) on sapphire substrate. The films thus prepared were characterized by measuring X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) studies. To study the effect of surface morphology on wettability, the contact angle (CA) of water was measured. It was demonstrated that the CA of the deposited ZnO NRs varied between $104^{\circ}$ and $135^{\circ}$ depending upon the surface morphology. Variable temperature photoluminescence (PL) have employed to probe the exciton recombination in high density and vertically aligned ZnO Nanorod arrays. The low-temperature PL characterizes the dominant near-band-edge excitonic emissions from such nanorod arrays.

  • The photovoltaic properties of perovskite solar cells (PSCs) with a carbon electrode fabricated using different annealing processes are investigated. Perovskite formation (50 ℃, 60 min) using a hot-plate and an oven is carried out on cells with a glass/fluorine doped TiO2/TiO2/ZrO2/carbon structure, and the photovoltaic properties of the PSCs are analyzed using a solar simulator. The microstructures of the PSCs are characterized using an optical microscope, a field emission scanning electron microscope, and an electron probe micro-analyzer (EPMA). Photovoltaic analysis shows that the energy conversion efficiency of the samples fabricated using the hot-plate and the oven processes are 2.08% and 6.90%, respectively. Based on the microstructure of the samples and the results of the EPMA, perovskite is formed locally on the carbon electrode surface as the γ-butyrolactone (GBL) solvent evaporates and moves to the top of the carbon electrode due to heat from the bottom of the sample during the hot plate process. When the oven process is used, perovskite forms evenly inside the carbon electrode, as the GBL solvent evaporates extremely slowly because heat is supplied from all directions. The importance of the even formation of perovskite inside the carbon electrode is emphasized, and the feasibility of oven annealing is confirmed for PSCs with carbon electrodes.

  • The paper summarizes the irradiation test and post-irradiation examination (PIE) data for the U-Mo low-enriched fuel that was irradiated in the MIR reactor under the RERTR Program. The PIE data were analyzed for both full-size fuel rods and mini-rods with atomized powder dispersed in Al matrix as well as with additions of 2%, 5% and 13% of silicon in the matrix and ZrN protective coating on the fuel particles. The full-size fuel rods were irradiated up to an average burnup of ${\sim}60%^{235}U$; the mini-rods were irradiated to an average burnup of ${\sim}85%^{235}U$. The presented data show a significant increase of the void fraction in the U-Mo alloy as the U-235 burnup rises from ~ 40% up to ~ 85%. The effect of irradiation test conditions and U-235 burnup were analyzed with regard to the formation of an interaction layer between the matrix and fuel particles as well as generation of porosity in the U-Mo alloy. Shown here are changes in distribution of U fission products as the U-235 burnup increases from ~ 40% up to ~ 85%.

  • Laser direct writing of micro-patterned copper lines has been achieved by pyrolytic decomposition of copper formate films (Cu(HCOO)$_2$.4$H_2O$), as a metallo-organic precursor, using a focused CW Ar$^{+}$ laser beam (λ=514nm) on PCB boards and glass substrates. The linewidth and thickness of the lines wee investigated as a functin of laser power and scan speed. The profiles of the lines were measured by scanning electron microscope (SEM), surface profiler ($\alpha$-step) and atomic force measured by scanning electron microscope (SEM), surface profiler ($\alpha$-step) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The electrical resistivities of the patterned lines were also investigated as a function of laser parameters using probe station and semiconductor analyzer. We compared resistivities of the patterned copper lines with these of the Cu bulk. Resistivities decreased due to changes in morphology and porosity of the deposit, which were about 3.8 $\mu$$\Omega$cm and 12$\mu$$\Omega$cm on PCB and glass substrates after annealing at 30$0^{\circ}C$ for 5 minutes.s.

  • $Hg_{1-x}Cd_xTe$(MCT) thin films were grown onto ITO glass and titanium plate by stationary cathodic electrodeposition in aqueous solution contained $CdSO_4$, $TeO_2$, and $HgCl_2$. During deposition two main fabrication parameters were taken into account deposition potential and growth temperature. MCT films deposited by varying two parameters were studied by X-ray diffraction, electron probe micro analyser(EPMA) and scanning electron microscope measurements. It was shown by XRD and EPMA measurements that the structure of MCT films was zinc blonde and the composition of MCT films can be controlled with the deposition potential.

  • IZO/Al multilayer anode films for flexible top emitting organic light emitting diodes (TOLEDs) were grown on PEN (polyethylen-enaphthelate) substrate using twin target sputter (TTS) system. To investigate electrical and optical properties of IZO/Al multilayer films, 4-point probe method and UV/Vis spectrometer were used, respectively. From a IZO/Al multilayer films with 100nm-thick Al, sheet resistance of $1.4{\Omega}/{\square}$ and reflectance of above 62% at a range of 500~550nm wavelength could be obtained, In addition, structural and surface properties of IZO/Al multilayer films were analyzed by XRD (X-ray diffraction) and FESEM (field emission scanning electron microscopy) and AES (auger electron spectroscope), respectively. Moreover, flexibility of IZO/Al multilayer anode films were examined by bending test method.

  • Negative ions are generated in fusion edge plasmas, material processing plasmas, ionospheric plasmas. Analytic formulas for the deduction of the absolute density of negative ions was given by using the current-voltage(IV) characteristics of two electric probes at two different pressures [1], and negative ion density has been measured by one electric probe using the current-voltage characteristics of three different pressures [2]. Ratios of ion and electron saturation currents and electron temperatures and sheath areas of different pressures are usually incorporated into two equations with two unknowns for the negative ion density. In the previous publications, the sheath factor(sheath area, sheath density, sheath velocity) and effective masses of background ions with different pressures are qualitatively incorporated for the deduction of negative density. In this presentation, the quantitative and detailed relation of negative ion density with sheath factor and effective masses are going to be given. The effect of these parameters on the change of IV characteristics will be addressed.

  • Mineralogy of clay(Napseok) deposits in Yangsan area has been studied by the methods of field investigation and laboratory works including the polarizing microscopy, X-ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopy, thermal analysis, chemical analysis by electron micro-probe and atomic absorption spectrophotometer, and electron microscopy(SEM and TEM). The Napseok ores in both the Cheonbulsan and Yongcheon deposits consist mainly of sericite, pyrophyllite and quartz, with more or less tourmaline. The high temperature minerals such as corundum and dumortierite are found in the Cheonbulsan deposit, but not in the Yongcheon deposits. Dickite, nacrite, and halloysite are found in the Yongcheon deposit, but not in the Cheonbulsan deposit. The Napseok ores of the Yukwang deposit consist of sericite posits in the Yangsan area. Occurrence, chemistry and structural features of important minerals are described. Mineralogical data of sericite such as intensity raios and chemistry also support that the Napseok deposits of both the Chenobulsan and Yongcheon mines were formed at the higher temperature than those of the Yukwang mine. Presence of sericite-dickite-pyrophyllite ores in the Yongcheon deposit also suggests the lower temperautre than in the Cheonbulsan deposit.
