적층 복합재료를 사용한 곡면형 작동기의 성능 예측을 위한 대규모 수치해석 연구 (Large Scale Numerical Analysis for the Performance Prediction of Multilayered Composite Curved Actuator)

  • In this paper, the electromechanical displacements of curved actuators using laminated composites are calculated by finite element method to design the optimal configuration of curved actuators. To predict the pre-stress in the device due to the mismatch in coefficients of thermal expansion, the carbon-epoxy and glass- epoxy as well as PZT ceramic is also numerically modeled by using hexahedral solid elements. Because the modeling of these thin layers causes the numbers of degree of freedom to increase, large-scale structural analyses are performed in a cluster system in this study. The curved shape and pre-stress in the actuator are obtained by the cured curvature analysis. The displacement under the piezoelectric force by an applied voltage is also calculated to compare the performance of curved actuator. The thickness of composite is chosen as design factor.

A Micro Tribotester for MEMS Elements

  • A computer-controlled micro tribotester has been developed to investigate the friction and wear characteristics of thin coatings, which can be applied to silicon-based materials. In the developed system, a step motor gives a reciprocating movement and an electromagnet applies a load between a ball and a plate specimen. Test results confirmed that the application of load in the range of $0.03{\sim}1.8N$ and with a sliding speed of $4.44{\sim}7.70mm/s$ was successfully accomplished. Advantages of the developed micro tribotester are: (1) realization of micro load and displacement applicable to micro electromechanical systems(MEMS) using DC motor and electromagnet (2) continuously variable load and reciprocating speed; and (3) high reliability, which allows for unattended use for long periods.

  • A new automatic cardiac output control algorithm for the motor-driven electromechanical total artificial heart(TAH) was developed based on the motor current waveform analysis without using any extra transducer. The basic control requirements of artificial heart can be described in terms of three features : preload sensitivity, afterload insensitivity, and balanced ventricular outputs. In the previous studies, many transducers were utilized to obtain informations of hemodynamic states for the automatic cardiac output control, But such automatic control systems with sensors have had reliability problems. We proposed a new sensorless automatic cardiac output control algorithm providing adequate cardiac output to the time-varying physiological demand without causing right atrial collapse, which is one of the critical problem in an active-filling type device. In-vitro tests were performed on a mock circulation system to evaluate the performance of the developed algorithm and the results show that the new algorithm satisfied the basic control requirements on the cardiac output response and the possibility of application of the developed algorithm to in vivo experiments.

Dynamic Magneto-mechanical Behavior of Magnetization-graded Ferromagnetic Materials

  • This study investigates the dynamic magneto-mechanical behavior of magnetization-graded ferromagnetic materials Terfenol-D/FeCuNbSiB (MF). We measure the dynamic magneto-mechanical properties as a function of the DC bias magnetic field ($H_{dc}$). Our experimental results show that these dynamic magneto-mechanical properties are strongly dependent on the DC bias magnetic field. Furthermore, the dynamic strain coefficient, electromechanical resonance frequency, Young's moduli, and mechanical quality factor of Terfenol-D/FeCuNbSiB are greater than those of Terfenol-D under a lower DC bias magnetic field. The dynamic strain coefficient increases by a factor of between one and three, under the same DC bias magnetic field. In particular, the dynamic strain coefficient of Terfenol-D/FeCuNbSiB at zero bias achieves 48.6 nm/A, which is about 3.05 times larger than that of Terfenol-D. These good performances indicate that magnetization-graded ferromagnetic materials show promise for application in magnetic sensors.

  • 가시광선과 근적외선에서 광학유리 및 액체의 굴절률을 정밀측정하기 위하여 Littrow 프리즘을 이용한 자동시준형 분광굴절률 측정장치를 설계, 제작하였다. 먼저 여러가지 측정변수를 변화시켜 측정정확도를 분석하였으며 rotary encoder와 position sensitive detector를 이용한 고분해능 각도측정장치와 항온장치등을 제작하였다. 마이크로 컴퓨터를 사용하여 측정자동화 하였으며 자세한 설계변수와 성능평가 결과를 제시하였다.

  • In this study, to develop the composition ceramics for the Ultrasonic vibrator, $Pb(Mn_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3Pb(Zr.Ti)O_3$ system ceramics were manufactured as a function of PCN substitution. Its dielectric and piezoelectric characteristics were investigated. With increasing the amount of PCN substitution, electromechanical coupling factor(kp) were increased until 3mol% PCN and that after decreased. mechanical quality factor(Qm) showed the maxinum value at 2mol% PCN. Eletromechanical coupling factor, mechanical quality factor and dielectric constant were showed optimum value at PCN 2mol% as 0.58, 1630 and 1407, respectively for ultrasonic vibrator applications.

수소가스 감지용 가연성 가스센서 제작을 위한 요소기술 개발 (Development of Core Technologies for Integrating Combustible Hydrogen Gas Sensor)

  • Core technologies for integrating hydrogen gas sensor were investigated. In this study, the thermally isolated micro-hot-plate with areas of $100{\times}100-260{\times}260{\mu}m^2$ was fabricated by utilizing surface micromachining technique that provides better manufacturing yield than bulk micromachining counterpart. The optimum design of the sensor was peformed by analyzing the thermal profile of the structure obtained from a ANSYS simulator. The 400-nm-thick polysilicon films doped with phosphorus, the 300-nm-thick aluminum films, and the 200-nm-thick $SnO_2$(or ZnO)films were used as the micro-heater material, the temperature sensor material, and the gas sensitive material, respectively. The experimental results show that the developed gas sensors can detect $H_2$ concentration as low as 1 ppm.

  • In this study, in order to develop multilayer low temperature sintering piezoelectric transformer, $Pb_{0.97}Sr_{0.03}[(Mn_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})x(Zr_{0.48}Ti_{0.52})_{1-x}O_3]+$ 0.25wt% $CeO_2$+0.3 wt% $Nb_2O_5$ system ceramics were fabricated using $Li_2CO_3-CaCO_3$ and CuO as sintering aids and their piezoelectric and dielectric characteristics were investigated with the amount of PMN substitution. With increasing PMN substitution, electromechanical coupling factor kp and dielectric constant were increased.

  • This paper presents a new systematic contingency selection and screening method for transient stability. The variation of modal synchronizing torque coefficient(MSTC) is computed using eigen-sensitivity analysis of the electromechanical oscillation modes in small signal stability model and contingencies are ranked in decreasing order of the sensitivities of the MSTC(SMSTC). The relevant clusters are identified using the eigenvector or participating factor. The proposed algorithm is tested on the KEPCO system. Ranking obtained by the SMSTC is consistent with the time simulation results by PSS/E.
