  • This study examined the corrosion behavior of bimetal materials composed of Fe-Ni alloy and Fe-Ni-Mo alloy, both suitable for use in electromagnetic switches. Electrochemical polarization and weight loss measurements revealed that, in contrast to Fe-Ni alloy, which exhibited pseudo-passivity behavior, Fe-Ni-Mo alloy had higher anodic current density, displaying only active dissolution and greater weight loss. This indicated a lower corrosion resistance in the Fe-Ni-Mo alloy. Equilibrium calculations for the phase fraction of precipitates suggested that the addition of 1 wt% Mo may lead to the formation of second-phase precipitates, such as Laves and M6C, in the γ matrix. These precipitates might degrade the homogeneity of the passive film formed on the surface, leading to localized attacks during the corrosion process. Therefore, considering the differences in corrosion kinetics between these bimetal materials, the early degradation caused by galvanic corrosion should be prevented by designing a new alloy, optimizing heat treatment, or implementing periodic in-service maintenance.

  • In general, inchworm actuators are composed of two clamping piezoelectric elements and one expansion piezoelectric element. In this paper, two electromagnetic clampers are used for higher speed and high load. Dynamic equation is derived to simulate the behavior of the inchworm actuator with electromagnets. Electromagnetic clamper is used to improve the performance of the inchworm actuator. The electromagnetic clamper is composed of two permanent magnets and one traditional electromagnet. The permanent magnets play the role of the source of magnetic field to make clamping force higher, and the electromagnet is to change the mode between clamping and free. The driving voltage profile is also analyzed to improve the speed of inchworm actuator. The real system was manufactured and experimented to find dynamic characteristics and the maximum speed is obtained. Dynamic model is verified by comparing with experimental results.

  • MPF(Magnetic pulse forming) process refers to the high velocity and high strain rate deformation of a low-ductility materials driven by electromagnetic forces that are generated by the rapid discharge current through forming coil. The goal of this study was to find the characteristics of dynamic behavior of workpiece and to find the main design process on MPF using bar forming coil. For these purposes, thin Al5053 sheet were used for the experiment. The measured strain data were analyzed by developed electromagnetic FE-model. The main design parameter is location of coil, electromagnetic force. In case of the bar forming coil, there exists the dead regions where the low electromagnetic force applied on the workpiece.

  • Polyaniline free standing films are prepared by various processing. The properties of these films such as electrical conductivity and electromagnetic shielding efficiency are investigated. The conductivities of films doped with a camphorsulfonic acid and a silver are found to be 170/cm and 190S/cm, respectively, indicating metallic behavior. The films added silver, which are casted from hydrochloric acid and dodecylbenzensulfonic acid, show that the electromagnetic shielding efficiency are obtained 42∼52dB and 46∼56dB in the frequency range of 10MHz∼1GHz, respectively. This suggests that the films added silver, which is casted from dodecylbenzensulfonic acid, can be used as electromagnetic shielding material.

  • This paper deals with the vibration analysis of characteristics for BLDC motor by electromagnetic exciting force. Vibration analysis of electric machine is mainly divided into mechanical and electrical approach. However, it need to execute coupling analysis of mechanical and electrical computation because the vibration sources have relation to each other. Magnetic fields is calculated from Maxwell stress method with electromagnetic finite element method. And magnetic radial force is calculated from previous magnetic fields. With coupled electromagnetic and structure finite element, the vibratory behavior between the phase commutation advancing technique and pulse-width control is investigated in single phase brushless dc motor.

  • Since the electromagnetic properties of fiber reinforced polymeric composites can be tailored effectively by adding small amount of electromagnetic powders to the matrix of composites, they are plausible materials for fabricating the radar absorbing structures (RAS) of desired performance. In order to design the effective electromagnetic wave (EM) absorber with the fiber reinforced polymeric composites, the electromagnetic characteristics with respect to the constituents of the composite should be available in the target frequency band. In order to describe the dielectric behavior of low loss unidirectional fiber reinforced composite, theoretical models and mixture equations for estimating its dielectric constant were proposed with respect to the fiber, matrix volume fractions and fiber orientations, and verified by the experiments. From the investigation, it was found that the suggested binary mixture rules agreed well with the experimental results.

  • In this study, an electromagnetic dynamic vibration suppressor and energy harvester is designed and studied. In this system, a gear mechanism is used to convert the linear motion to continuous rotary motion. Governing equations of motion for the system are derived and validated using the experimental results. Effects of changing the main parameters of the presented system, such as mass ratio, stiffness ratio and gear ratio on the electro-mechanical behavior of system are investigated. Moreover, using so-called Weighted Cost Function, the optimum parameters of the system are obtained. Finally, it is shown that the presented electromagnetic dynamic vibration absorber not only can reduce the undesired vibration of the main system but also it can harvest acceptable electrical energy.

  • We conducted a phased electromagnetic forming process analysis (EFPA) over time through a coupling of electromagnetic analysis and structural analysis. The analysis is conducted through a direct linkage between electromagnetic analysis and structural analysis. The analysis process is repeated until the electric current is completely discharged by a formed coil. We calculate the forming force that affects the workpiece using MAXWELL, a commercial electromagnetic finite element analysis program. Then, we simulate plastic behavior by using the calculated forming force data as the forming force input to ANSYS, a commercial structure finite element analysis program. We calculate the forming force data by using the model shape in MAXWELL, a commercial electromagnetic finite element analysis program. We repeat the process until the current is fully discharged by the formed coil. Our results can be used to reduce the error in data transformation with a reduced number of data transformations, because the proposed approach directly links the electromagnetic analysis and the structural analysis after removing the step of the numerical analysis of a graph describing the forming force, unlike the existing electromagnetic forming process. Second, it is possible to simulate a more realistic forming force by keeping a certain distance between nodes using the re-mesh function during the repeated analysis until the current is completely discharged by the formed coil, based on the MAXWELL results. We compare and review the results of the EFPA using the peak value of the forming force that acts on the workpiece (which is the existing analysis method), and the proposed phased EFPA over time approach.

  • Microstructure and magnetic transport phenomina in rf sputtered AlN/Co type ten-layered discontinuous films of nanoscaled [AlN (3 nm)/Co (t nm)]...$\sub$10/ with t$\sub$Co/=1.0∼2.0 nm have been investigated. The microstructure and tunneling magnetic resistance of the samples are strongly dependent on the thickness of Co layer. Negative tunneling magneto-resistance due to the spin-dependent transport has been observed along the current-in-plane configuration in the samples having the Co layers below 1.6 nm thick. When the thickness of Co layer was less than 1,2 nm, randomly oriented granular Co particles were completely isolated and embedded in amorphous AlN matrix, and the films showed the superparamagnetic behavior with a high MR value of Δ$\rho$/$\rho$$\sub$0/=1.8 %. As t$\sub$Co/ increases, a transition from the regime of co-existence of superparamagnetic and ferromagnetic behaviors to ferromagnetic behavior was observed. Tunneling barrier called "decay length for tunneling" for the films having the thickness of Co layer from 1.4 to 1.6 nm was measured to be ranged from 0.004 to 0.021 ${\AA}$$\^$-1/.

  • Graphene Nanosheets play an important role in nanosensors due to their proper surface to volume ratio. Therefore, the main purpose of this paper is to consider the nonlinear vibration behavior of graphene nanosheets (GSs) under the influence of electromagnetic fields and electrical current create forces. Considering more realistic assumptions, new equations have been proposed to study the nonlinear vibration behavior of the GSs carrying electrical current and placed in magnetic field. For this purpose, considering the influences of the magnetic tractions created by electrical and eddy currents, new relationships for electromagnetic interaction forces with these nanosheets have been proposed. Nonlinear coupled equations are discretized by Galerkin method, and then solved via Runge-Kutta method. The effect of different parameters such as size effect, electrical current magnitude and magnetic field intensity on the vibration characteristics of GSs is investigated. The results show that the magnetic field increases the linear natural frequency, and decreases the nonlinear natural frequency of the GSs. Excessive increase of the magnetic field causes instability in the GSs.
