Thin film solar cells with chalcopyrite $CuInSe_2/Cu(In,Ga)Se_2$ absorber materials, commonly known as "CIS/CIGS solar cells" have recently attracted significant research interest as a potential alternative energy-harvesting system for the next generation. Among the different deposition techniques available for the CIGS absorber layer, electrodeposition is an effective and low cost alternative to vacuum based deposition methods. This article reviews progress in the area of CIGS solar cells with an emphasis on electrodeposited absorber layer. Existing challenges in fabrication of stoichiometric absorber layer are highlighted.
In this study the ultrasound which has the properties of mixing, surface cleaning effect, increasing of the effective reaction surface area and increasing of the effective collision frequency, was used to enhance the recovering efficiency of Cu from the Cu-ion containning waste water. The ultrasonic reactor used in this study was dsigned and constructed for improving the disadvantage of the existing ultrasonic reactor From the experimental result and its analysis. we obtained following conclusions. 1. The ultrasound increased the rate of electrochemical deposition to 582.2% in maximum at the Condition of 0.1M-CuSO$_4$and 2.1V-overpotential. 2. This study gave the possibility of the scale-up of ultrasonic reactor and In particular, ultrasonic reactor would be effective in treatment of waste water contains a low concentration of Cu ion.
Varing the flow velocity of solution and particle diameter, the mass transfer coefficient of the local electrode on current feeder has been measured in an empty flow reactor, an inert fluidized bed electrode reactor, and an active fluidized bed electrode reactor. It had its maximium value when the bed porosity was 0.6 to 0.65 and decreased with in- creasing the height of local electrode. The mass transfer coefficient was found to be high especially when higher particle was fluidized. Electrochemical deposition of copper dissolved in the synthesized wastewater has been performed in the active fluidized bed electrode reactor. The deduction rate was higher than 90% and the residual concentration of copper decreased to less than 5ppm.
Carbonaceous thin films were prepared from acetylene and argon gases by plasma assisted chemical vapor deposition (Plasma CVD) at 873 K. The carbonaceous thin films were characterized by mainly Raman spectroscopy, and their electrochemical properties were studied by cyclic voltammetry and charge-discharge measurements in propylene carbonate (PC) solution. Raman spectra showed that crystallinity of carbonaceous thin films is correlated by the applied RF power. The difference of the applied RF power also affected on the results of cyclic voltammetry and charge-discharge measurements. In PC solution, intercalation and de-intercalation of lithium ion can occur as well as in the mixed solution of EC and DEC.
Yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) thin films were prepared by the electrochemical vapor deposition (EVD) method on the porous Al2O3 substrates. Y2O3 mol% of thin film was linearly increased with yttrium mole fraction of vapor phase. As yttrium mole fraction(Zyc13=0.18) increased dense and faceted thin films were enhanced. However as the yttrium mole fraction (Zyc13=0.04) decreased porous thin films with monoclinnic phase prevailed. With increasing pressure difference of substrate sides penetration depth decreased porosity and amount of monoclinic phase in the films increased.

Nano-sized Sn particles were coated with Ni-P layer using an electroless deposition method and their anodic performance was tested for lithium secondary batteries. Uniform coating layers were obtained, of which the thickness was controlled by varying the $Ni^{2+}$ concentration in the plating bath. It was found that the Ni-P layer plays two important roles in improving the anodic performance of Sn powder electrode. First, it prevents the inter-particle aggregation between Sn particles during the charge/discharge process. Second, it provides an electrical conduction pathway to the Sn particles, which allows an electrode fabrication without an addition of conductive carbon. A pseudo-optimized sample showed a good cyclability and high capacity ($>400mAh\;g^{-1}$) even without conductive carbon loading.
Yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) thin films were prepared by the electrochemical vapor deposition (EVD) method on the porous Al2O3 substrates which were fabricated by different substrate thickness and porosity. Film growth rates decreased with increase on the substrate thickness and porosity and obeyed a parabolic rate law. Activa-tion energy calculated from the parabolic rate onstants was 69.9 kcal/mol. With increase on the deposition time, monoclinic phase was appeared and then disappeared. YSZ penetrated deeply into substrates when the EVD temperature decreased. Electrical conductivity of the films was 0.09 S/cm at 100$0^{\circ}C$ similar to the value of YSZ single crystal.
Silicon-based thin film was prepared at room temperature by an electrochemical deposition method and a feasibility study was conducted for its use as an anode material in a rechargeable lithium battery. The growth of the electrodeposits was mainly concentrated on the surface defects of the Cu substrate while that growth was trivial on the defect-free surface region. Intentional formation of random defects on the substrate by chemical etching led to uniform formation of deposits throughout the surface. The morphology of the electrodeposits reflected first the roughened surface of the substrate, but it became flattened as the deposition time increased, due primarily to the concentration of reduction current on the convex region of the deposits. The electrodeposits proved to be amorphous and to contain chlorine and carbon, together with silicon, indicating that the electrolyte is captured in the deposits during the fabrication process. The silicon in the deposits readily reacted with lithium, but thick deposits resulted in significant reaction overvoltage. The charge efficiency of oxidation (lithiation) to reduction (delithiation) was higher in the relatively thick deposit. This abnormal behavior needs to clarified in view of the thickness dependence of the internal residual stress and the relaxation tendency of the reaction-induced stress due to the porous structure of the deposits and the deposit components other than silicon.
$Li_2PtO_3$ thin film electrodes, which might be possible candidate for the cathode materials for implantable batteries, were synthesized using an electrostatic spray deposition (ESD) technique onto a platinum foil substrate. Single phase $Li_2PtO_3$with a structure similar to layered $LiCoO_2$ structure were synthesized by spraying a precursor solution of $CH_3CO_2Li2H_2O$ in ethanol onto a Pt substrate at temperatures ranging from 200 to $400^{\circ}C$ followed by annealing at above $600^{\circ}C$. Lithium carbonate was the only major phase at temperatures up to $500^{\circ}C$. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) peaks of the Pt foil substrate and lithium carbonate disappeared at temperatures >$600^{\circ}C$. The volumetric capacity of the $Li_2PtO_3$ thin film synthesized using the ESD technique was approximately 817 mAh/$cm^3$, which exceeded that of $LiCoO_2$ (711 mAh/$cm^3$).

The effect of solution acidity and organic additives, polyethylene glycol (PEG), on the trivalent chromium electroplating was systematically investigated in the view point of solution stability, electroreduction of trivalent chromium ions and characterization of deposition layer. It was found that, the concentration of fraction chromium complexes in the trivalent chromium bath containing formic acid is strongly depended on pH value. PEG molecules were stable in trivalent chromium bath containing formic acid via studies on electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS) and UV-Vis. However, the presence of PEG molecules decreased the reductive current of hydrogen evolution, increasing of current efficiency higher about 10 % compared with solutions without PEG. Moreover, PEG additives developed the nodular morphology during electroreduction of trivalent chromium ions with the increase of solution acidity and enhanced its current efficiency by maintaining the consumption of complexant, formic acid, at a low speed. In this study, the effect of solution acidity was emphasized important, there, it controlled the formation of complexes in the solution, cathodic film (CF) during deposition, and properties of deposited layer. By electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance (EQCM), studies show that chromium electrodeposition occurs via the formation of intermediate complexes and adsorption on the cathode surface, which hinder the penetration of ions from bulk solution to the cathode surface.
