  • The electric power load during the summer peak time is strongly affected by cooling load, which decreases the preparation ratio of electricity and brings about the failure in the supply of electricity in the electric power system. The ice storage system and heat pump system etc. are used to settle this problem. In this study, the method of estimating temperature and humidity to forecast the cooling load of ice storage system is suggested. The method of forecasting the cooling load using neural network is also suggested. The daily cooling load is mainly dependent on actual temperature and humidity of the day. The simulation is started with forecasting the temperature and humidity of the following day from the past data. The cooling load is then simulated by using the forecasted temperature and humidity data obtained from the simulation. It was observed that the forecasted data were closely approached to the actual data.

  • Small wind turbines are becoming a viable technology option to supply electricity to landowners. These systems provide energy security, product relatively no environmental harm, and in an appropriate setting can be quite cost-competitive with traditional electricity options. This paper is dealing with the methods how to overcome such inconvenience and with the analysis of characteristic and a field test with a prototype of the stand alone wind turbine was performed. The method applies to small systems, equipped with a coreless axial-flux permanent magnet(AFPM) generator in the turbine, a dc-dc converter and batteries. The analysis concentrates on the effect of the load on the power-wind speed curve of the turbine. The system is designed for direct driven, coupled with turbine and generator with a rated power of, 3kW.

  • In addition to the stabilization of electricity supply and the quality management of electricity, load balance has been an important strategy for achieving high quality load management. Among many techniques for load management, direct load management has been actively studied and applied for increasing the efficiency of power facility and suppressing peak load. In Korea, the highest peak load is demanded in summer rather than in winter, and almost 50% of the peak load comes from cooling load. Currently, applicable systems are limited to air conditioners that have the cooling capacity less than 2kW. This paper describes the development of remote controlled air conditioners and the result of the field test of the new type air conditioner. The technical specification based on the test will be applied to the new model of the remote controlled air conditioner. The wide distribution of the air conditioners to the public will be helpful to control peak demand due to cooling load in summer time. Financial investment to generating, transmission, distribution facilities will be decreased from flatting the seasonal power load.

  • With the restructuring of the electric power industry during the past decade, operation and control strategies have undergone a shift in paradigm. Certain activities that were earlier considered as part of the integrated electricity supply(such as voltage and frequency control) are now treated as separate services and often independently managed and accounted for. This paper examines the management of reactive power services in deregulated electricity markets around the world. From the review several diverse methods for handling reactive power within the deregulated market framework emerges. While in many of the markets, proper financial compensation mechanisms exist to compensate the providers for their service, some others continue to handle reactive power through regulatory frameworks and technical operation guidelines.

  • The procurement of generation and transmission/Distribution capacity in vertically-integrated electric industry is sufficient by facility construction in suitable time. However, the introduction of competitive electricity market increase the efficiency of availability for facilities and fuels. As a result, long-term capacity procurement is required for stable demand-supply balance since it is expected to maintain their generation capacity at a minimum for profit maximization. In this paper, a new long-term capacity procurement mechanism is constructed, which is able to assure supplemental contribution in competitive electricity market.

  • In 2000, the EU set up an energy policy related renewables use for electricity demand up to $22\%$ on the purpose of preventing energy exhaustion and world climate exchange. Technology development and energy production policy on coal, oil and natural gas focus on how to minimize their environmental effects since the world energy system will continue to be dominated by fossil fuels with almost $90\%$ of total energy supply in 2030. In the long run, the EU drives expansion policy of the renewable energy. If related policies and programs will show successful operation in the near future and will be resulted in increase of budget, we could expect the possibility of expansion of renewable energy market in Korea in the future.

  • For the sake of a stable power supply, an electric power company must have power generation facilities that can generate more electricity than the maximum demand of the year. Due to the fact that the maximum electricity demand will also continue to increase, enormous investments are needed annually to build power plants. For that reason, electric power companies are propelling 'Demand Side Management' which improve the form of electrical usage for the customer in a positive way. This paper presents the concept of 'Cool Storage System' which is the most representative program, which lowers the peak demand during the on-peak time periods in a day and creates a base load simultaneously during the night time hours among the DSM programs.

  • In recent years, due to the occurrence of traffic accidents caused by black ice in winter, the number of personal injuries is increasing rapidly. Black ice is a phenomenon that occurs like a thin layer of ice on the road surface. Accordingly, many developments of heat-generating concrete are being developed to remove ice by increasing the temperature by supplying constant electricity to places where black ice is likely to occur. These heating elements are being developed by mixing a conductive material represented by carbon nanotubes with concrete. However, research up to now has been focused on efficient temperature rise and derivation of the optimum mixing ratio, and the evaluation of maintaining heat generation performance during continuous repetition is insufficient. Therefore, in this study, a heating test specimen was manufactured and 50V power was repeatedly supplied to evaluate the heating characteristics.

  • This paper analyzes the effects of nuclear power generation on industrial growth in using the data of 22 manufacturing sectors in 14 nuclear power countries. The hypothesis that the change in the proportion of nuclear power generation in total electricity generation affects industrial value-added and industrial output through industrial electricity price reduction was tested using the dynamic panel data model. First, it was estimated that the increase in nuclear power generation by a 1% leads to a 0.8% reduction in electricity price. The results indicate that when nuclear power generation increased by a 1% point, industrial value-added and output increased by 0.16% and 0.23%,respectively, in the short-run and by 0.51% and 0.85%, respectively, in the long-run. It was also inferred that the effect of nuclear generation on industrial competitiveness working through electricity price reduction rely on institutional settings in the electricity markets. That is, the competitive effect is greater in the countries such as U.K and Japan where electricity price is high and price volatility is large. Meanwhile, in Germany which has pursued phasing out nuclear power, industrial competitiveness is promoted through stable electricity supply.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate planning of urban energy supply systems configuration and operating conditions for the district heating and cooling system using combined heat and power system. Generally the district heating and cooling system has been known to one of the effective way for energy saving, cost reduction and demand side management of energy. Economical analyses were carried out and operating characteristics for some systems were examined in terms of GER factor which represents to the ratio of gas and electricity costs. Rates of the energy consumption and the $CO_2$ emission were compared from the system configuration of the energy supply system with new district cooling system with the conventional one.
