  • Stainless steel sheets are widely used to produce electrical appliances. But there are various problems occured in forming stainless steel sheets such as scratch, local fracture, earing. So the productivity of electrical appliances made of stainless steel sheets is decreased. And it is very important to improve the formability of stainless steel sheets. In this study, rectangular cup drawing tests have been carried out to obtain optimum process parameters for improving the formablity of stainless steel sheets. In the tests, selected process parameters are materials of dies and punches, lubricating conditions, and blank holding force. From the test results, we suggest the appropriate conditions to be applicable to the actual manufacturing processes.

  • In this paper, a surface permanent magnet motor made of the Soft Magnetic Composites (SMC) is analysed using the 3-D finite element method. By comparing with the motor made of the silicon steel sheets, the usefulness of the SMC for the eddy current loss is clarified quantitatively.

  • Magnetic properties of electrical steel are, in general. measured by using Epstein frame or single sheet tester (SST). These methods, however, require very strict regulation of a specimen in its size and shape. thus, can not be easily applied to various types of specimen. On the other hand, a ring-test method, which measures only the isotropic properties, can be easily applied to most cases because it requires a toroidal-type specimen of arbitrary size. This method, especially, is considered as an unique available method for a bulk-type specimen. In this paper, a ring-test method is developed, and applied to the measurement of magnetic properties of a bulk-type electrical steel with a toroidal-type specimen. In the measurement, the magnetic properties and iron losses are measured and compared with each other at the both sinusoidal magnetic flux density and sinusoidal magnetic field intensity conditions under 0.2Hz and 60Hz alternating magnetic fields excitation. Through experimental measurements, a sinusoidal magnetic flux density condition is proven appropriate for the measurement of magnetic properties, including iron loss characteristics, of electrical steels.

  • Up to now, DC-biased magnetic properties have been measured in one dimension (scalar). However, scalar magnetic properties are insufficient to clarify DC-biased magnetic properties because scalar magnetic properties can only impossibly consider the phase difference between the magnetic flux density B vector and the magnetic field strength H vector. Thus the magnetic field strength H and magnetic flux density B in magnetic materials must be directly measured as a vector quantity (two-dimensional). This paper presents measurement system to clarify the two-dimensional DC-biased magnetic properties.

  • For the core loss measurement under arbitrary waveform of magnetic induction, we have constructed a single sheet core loss measuring system which consists of yoke apparatus for single sheet of $10\;cm{\times}10\;cm$, arvitrary waveform synthesizer, B-feedback system, and two channel transient recorder. Using the constructed measuring system, we can measure core loss including higher harmonics up to 2 kHz. Core loss of non-oreinted electrical steel was increased exponentially when higher harmonic frequency was increased or amplitude of harmonic induction was increased.

  • We have developed new process to product Al clad steel wire. New machine was modified to be able to apply an four step of "foiling-sizing-cladding-drawing" considering low clad temperature and high clad pressure. The foiling part for continuous foiling of Al sheet was designed and machine. Cladding properties at Al and steel interface were investigated for the processes of new work.

  • This paper presents a dynamic model of 2-D magnetostriction in electrical steel sheet (ESS) under rotating flux magnetization conditions and its implementation in finite element method (FEM). For an arbitrary waveform of magnetic flux density (B), the corresponding magnetostriction waveform can be predicted by the model. In order to apply the model to FEM easily, the model is based on trilinear interpolation method. As an example, the model is applied to a three-phase transformer constructed by highly grain-oriented electrical steel sheets and the numerical results by the magnetostriction model are discussed.

  • Experiments on the automatic control of NaOH concentration and on the spraying condition of NaOH solution in the alkaline degreasing process of a continuous hot-dip galvanizing line have been carried out in order to improve degreasing performance of a galvanizing sheet steel using laboratory degreasing and galvanizing simulators. The concentration of NaOH for the good degreasing has been determined to be 6.0% and more and this concentration has been able to be automatically well controlled within $\pm$0.1% by employing a solution electrical conductivity meter under a flow injection analysis condition rather than by employing a sodium ion selective electrode in the degreasing simulator. Frequent blocking of the spraying nozzles of the solution has been reduced considerably by the set-up and periodical operation of an automatic valve system in the nozzle system. By applying this automatic valve system and by automatic controlling the NaOH concentration and other ordinary variables in the degreasing process, the degreasing performance has been increased from the conventional 76% to the new 85%.

  • The vector magnetic property is defined as the relationship between the magnetic field strength vector H and the magnetic flux density vector B. It is very important for the development of high efficiency and the high-density electric machines. The electrical steel sheet for the machine core shows the remarkable vector behavior by the high magnetic flux density level. In this paper, the magnetic characteristic analysis using E&S2 model is introduced as the useful technology for the design and development.
