A SOC Estimation using Kalman Filter for Lithium-Polymer Battery (칼만 필터를 이용한 리튬-폴리머 배터리의 SOC 추정)

  • The SOC estimation method based on Kalman Filter(KF) requires the accurate battery model to express the electrical characteristics of the battery. However, the performance of KF SOC estimator can hardly be improved because of the nonlinear characteristic of the battery. This paper proposes the new KF SOC estimator of Lithium-Polymer Battery(LiPB), which considers the variation of parameters based on the hysteresis effect, the magnitude of SOC, the charging/discharging mode and the on/off load conditions. The proposed SOC estimation method is verified with the PSIM simulation combined the experimental data of the LiPB.

Effect of Accumulated charges on Surface Hydrophobicity of RTV Silicone Rubber (RTV 실리콘 고무 코팅재의 표면전하 축적이 발수성에 미치는 영향)

  • In this paper, we evaluated the effect of accumulated charges on hydrophobicity of room temperature vulcanized(RTV) silicone rubber, which could improve the contamination performance of porcelain insulators, with uv radiation time. Outdoor insulating material could be charged by the corona discharge on field intensified area of insulator and discharge between the water drops. In addition, we performed the accelerated uv radiation on samples and investigated the change of charging decay with time. In this results, it is found that silica-like structure on the surface of RTV silicone rubber was formed by uv treatments and this layer have the characteristic of retaining the charges on surface for a long time. These charges have effects on its hydrophobicity and so adversely effects on contamination performance. Based on our results, we discussed the other degradation mechanism with well known ones.

  • Charge decay, thermally stimulated current (TSC), charging and discharging currents(I) are measured for corona-charged composite insulating materials. In this study, We will make an experiment in charge decay on composite material surface, TSC, polarity effect and the others in order to analysis its mechanism. Especially, Fiber glass Reinforced Plastics(FRP) is the best composite material which has been so far. Therefore, Its worthy of notice to investigate its characteristic. And then some other materials will be focused on. This experiment measured characteristic of charge decay, dependence of discharging-time and other electrostatic characteristics on FRP.

  • This paper presents a development of the auxiliary power supply simulator for a electric rolling stock. An auxiliary power supplies are required for operating air conditioning units, ventilation fans, lighting and battery charging. Traditionally this function has been fulfilled by Motor-Alternator sets. In recent years, high performance of semiconductor and micro processor, availability and price have made three phase voltage source inverters as an attractive alternative to MA Sets. From the baseline model of the SIV(Static InVerter) for electric rolling stock, we designed the scale down model of the auxiliary power supply simulator consisting of an IGBT three phase voltage source inverter. The auxiliary power supply simulator can be used educatory purpose for training efficiently about operating principles of SIV.

Effects of Surface Charges on Hydrophobicity and Surface Potential Decay with Various Surface States of Silicone Rubber for Outdoor Insulator (옥외용 실리콘 절연재료의 발수성에 미치는 표면전하의 영향과 표면 상태에 따른 표면전위 감쇠)

  • This paper presents the effects of accumulation of surface charges on hydrophobic level and the changes of surface potential decay with various artificial environment treatments on high temperature vulcanized (HTV) silicone rubber used for outdoor insulating material. For this study, the charging apparatus by corona discharge, in which grid electrode was installed between the main corona and ground electrode, was used. From this study, it was found that the accumulation of surface charges above a critical surface potential on silicone insulating materials could lead to the temporary loss of surface hydrophobicity. In addition, corona stress and water absorption stress increase the decay rate of surface charges of HTV silicone rubber, while ultraviolet (UV) stress causes longer decay time. We could conclude that the effects of surface charges on hydrophobicity level and the changes of surface state by various artificial treatments were found through a trend of surface potential decay.

Driving Characteristics Analysis with Temperatures of Lithium Polymer Battery Pack for Bimodal Tram (바이모달트램에 탑재된 리튬폴리머배터리팩의 온도에 따른 운전특성분석)

  • Bimodal Tram is driven by both engine and Lithium Polymer battery pack which consists with 168 cells of LPB(80Ah, 650Vdc). LPB pack is very frequently charged and discharged in driving. Temperature inside of LPB pack makes an great effect on both charging and discharging capacity which seem to be related with LPB internal resistance. LPB internal resistance is increasing or little decreasing with the decreased temperature under 10 - $20^{\circ}C$ and the increased temperature over $30^{\circ}C$ which is similar to the temperature characteristics of single LPB cell. This paper has analyzed the driving characteristics of LPB pack for bimodal tram is running with either battery mode or hybrid mode.

  • Pulse electrochemical machining process with high or low current density may produce a non-lustrous surface on workpiece surface. The usual polishing process to remove a black layer from the surface has been hand polish the part. But the milli-to-micro meter scale structure formed by the electrochemical machining process may be destroyed while polishing process. The application of ultra short voltage pulses based on the analysis of electrical double layer charging process allows high resolution electrochemical machining and polishing. This technique was based on the specific polarization resistance from the comparison of ideal and experimental potential variation during short voltage pulses.

  • A stepwise driving method was used for reducing the AC power consumption in a TFT-LCD. The AC power takes the largest portion of the total power consumption of a TFT-LCD. Experimental results confirmed that the AC power saving efficiency reached up to 75% when a 5-stepwise driving with each step time of $2\mu$ sec was applied to a 14.1 inch-diagonal XGA TFT-LCD. The second largest component of power consumption called the DC power comes from the quiescent currents in Op-amps. A simple and efficient architecture was proposed in this work to reduce this DC power consumption: Half of the Op-amps have the 5V-supplies, and the rest half have the 10V-supplies, and two Op-amps are shared by adjacent two channels. Measurements of test circuits showed that this simple method could reduce over 40% of the DC power consumption..

  • This paper presents a motor drive IC for automotive applications. The drive IC is dedicated to control and drive external MOSFETs which directly drive 3-phase motor with a high current. In case of driving high-side power switches, the bootstrap topology is widely used. However, it requires three bootstrap diode and three capacitor respectively. And it needs a minimum charging time to maintain high-side voltage. The motor drive IC uses a charge-pump circuit for all three high-side voltage with various protection schemes for automotive applications.

  • This paper suggests a autonomous linear Li-ion battery charger which can safely distribute power between an external power source(AC adapter, auto adapter, or USB source), battery, and the system load. Depending on an external power source's capability, the charger selects proper charging-mode automatically. The charger IC designed and fabricated on Dongbu HITEC's $0.35{\mu}m$ BCD process with layers of one poly and three metals.
