  • In the circumstances which a highly reliable operation in electric power facilities of extra high voltage and large capacity is needed, the importance of a preventive diagnostic technology is growing large day and day. The settlement of a preventive diagnostic technology for optimization and efficient management on the electric power facilities like GIS enable the reduce of repair fee, the improvement of safety and the systematic management of electric power facilities. The remaining life prediction of facilities will play a decisive role as a core technology of a preventive diagnostics in the future. And so it is necessary a continuous research and concern for the development of a preventive diagnostic technology hereafter.

  • Electric Power cable is the apparatus that receives electric power from the Korea Electric Power Corporation and supplies electric power to electric train and annex facilities of each railway station. With substantial ripple effect during power blackout accidents, such power blackout accidents must be coped with by discriminating the status of insulation deterioration of electric power cable in advance. Discrimination of insulation deterioration of the electric power cable is normally executed while the power is disconnected and it is very difficult to discover, at early stage, the insulation deterioration of the power cable in operational state since the duration of inspection is limited. This research aims to consider method of diagnosing the insulation deterioration of electric power cable in On-Line state rather than diagnosis in Off-Line state in order to secure reliability of power supply by reducing duration of power blackout (accidental blackout and blackout during works) and by seeking reduction in equipment and manpower used in diagnosis of deterioration through prevention of the accident itself prior to occurrence through early restoration of accident due to insulation deterioration of the electric power cable and assessment of performance of the cable under operation.

  • In Korea Electric Power Corporation (or KEPCO), several Demand-Side Management (or DSM) program have been carried out to effectively meet electric power demand at least costs by modifying customers electricity use patterns. As one of them, KEPCO applies low-priced night thermal-storage power service for heat appliances to facilitate efficient use of power facilities by shifting relatively high daytime demands to night hours to build loads during the off-peak periods. In the market of heat-storage type water-heater, electric water-heater has been mostly used, but it has low energy efficiency and needs high capacity electric equipments. So in order to replace these electric water heaters, 15 HP air-source heat pump water heater is developed in Korea Electric Research Institute (or KEPRI). This paper shows that measurement system for performance testing of heat pump water heater is established and heating capacity and performance is analyzed and measured for out-door environmental change.

  • As the big data analysis technologies has been developed worldwide, the importance of asset management for electric power facilities based data analysis is increasing. It is essential to secure quality of data that will determine the performance of the RISK evaluation algorithm for asset management. To improve reliability of asset management, asset data must be preprocessed. In particular, the process of cleaning dirty data is required, and it is also urgent to develop an algorithm to reduce time and improve accuracy for data treatment. In this paper, the result of the development of an automatic cleaning algorithm specialized in overhead transmission asset data is presented. A data cleaning algorithm was developed to enable data clean by analyzing quality and overall pattern of raw data.

  • In this paper we present development process and results of some cases for underground pad transformer and switchgear. Some characteristic factors was considered and tested to improve the functions of the case, such as natural convection of cooling air between the internal and external cases, properties of material that used as external panel etc. Proposed designs and functional characteristics will be adapted to making the cases of underground facilities after the elaborated tests. The results obtained from this study will improve the scenery of a street.

  • Nowadays, subway station has provided not only transportation but living spaces for everyday activities. Therefore, a variety of facilities have been installed for a safety of citizens such as fire-fighting equipment, platform screen doors and giving high level of benefits such as air-conditioning and heating equipment, escalators, lighting apparatus. In order to operate these facilities appropriately, it is needless to say that electric power supply must be reliable. Many protection relays have been installed to protect electric apparatus and power system, nevertheless it..s study has been insufficient in the concrete. From this paper, through analyzing of protection relay system of electric room operated in line 2 of Seoul metro, we can help to improve stable power supply system of subway station.

  • The efficiency and performance of electric facilities in electric railway tunnels are quite important factors for operation and maintenance of railway since most of maintenance works for railways are doing during the night. Specially, in the railways like Gyeong-Chun Line passing through many mountains, many parts of railways are constructed with tunnels. So, this paper proposes the efficient electrical installation design scheme for railway tunnel considering the system performance, economics, and the reliability of power supply to tunnel electric facilities. Finally, the proposed design scheme is implemented to the tunnel design for Gyeong-Chun Line (Electric Railway).

  • This paper describes electric shock accidents on a 4.16 kV class circuit breaker for power plant. Electric shock accidents mostly involve damage of human life, in comparison with electrical fire, rate of human death tend to be higher in electric shock accidents. Specially, in a high voltage facilities rate of human death comprised about 43.7% by electric shock accidents. If electric shock accidents happen in a 4.16 kV class circuit breaker for power plant, then the power plant discontinue power production. Electric shock accidents in a power plant have a great ripple effect such as an electric power shortage. In this paper, we analyzed electric shock accidents on a 4.16 kV class circuit breaker for power plant. From the analysis results, we confirmed a cause of electric shock accidents on a 4.16 kV class circuit breaker, it happened by defect of interlock equipment or occurrence of breakdown between first feeder contactor and shielding plate. In order to reduce electric shock accidents on a 4.16 kV class circuit breaker, the power plant should consider improvement of interlock equipment and insulation of feeder contactor in circuit breaker.

  • We are to evaluate the stabilization technology of actual biogas plant facilities, which is operating currently. It describes the traits of the consistent facilities of mesophilic anaerobic digestion using Unison Biogas plant Recovery system(UBR). Also the economical efficiency is examined with the electric power sales earnings and applying the deserted heating by generating electric power, which is generated by operated combined heat and power using biogas produced by mesophilic anaerobic digestion. We have generated the 481,113kw for electric power and 1,376Gcal for thermal energy simultaneously. If these electric power and thermal energy are converted into diesel, we can achieve savings equal to 114,300L, and 152,109L in the quantity of heat. Finally, if CDM, RPS, liquid fertilizer sales business, etc. is activated, the earnings will be expected to improve dramatically and is considered to contribute a drop of the greenhouse gas.

  • The $2{\times}25kv$ AT electric power feeding method in the A.C. electric train adopts the one-phase power feeding method as the standard due to a voltage phase difference, and the distance between the two neighboring substations is 50km due to voltage drop. The one-phase power feeding method makes the system operation feasible, while making it unfavorable for power supply. Moreover, railroad involves large-capacity single-phase load, and if it is expected to continue to rise, it is necessary to research on measures to stabilize the supply of power to railroad cars with the existing facilities. In this study, a parallel power feeding method between neighboring substations is proposed to stabilize the supply of electric power to electric railroad cars under the 2*25kv AT power feeding method and the loop current induced by voltage phase difference between the two neighboring substations during parallel power feeding is investigated.
