  • Even after learning electric current, elementary school students have various non-scientific conceptions and difficulties. Because flow of charge is not visible. Also elementary school students do not learn theory but phenomena, so they cannot transfer theoretical perspective to new situation. In this research, we have designed instruction based on PhET simulation visualizing flow of electric charge and applied it to 37 science-gifted students in elementary school for measuring conceptual understanding. As a result, six out of the seven Hake gains of question set are high gain and just one is middle gain because the students have understood the flow pattern of the charge through circuit elements such as light bulbs, wire, as well as battery with PhET simulation and it gives a chance to create various questions spontaneously about electric current. Also they become able to do spontaneous mental simulation without PhET simulation about flow of charges. This research, suggest that developed materials using PhET simulation could be used as not only program for gifted students in elementary school, but also the electrical circuit section in an elementary science curriculum.

  • In order to obtain a better understanding of the ageing process of the field composite insulators, it is necessary to explore a quantitative-valuation method for the aging state evaluation. And the linear relationship between volume resistivity and temperature is proposed. In this paper, the composite insulators with different lengths of operating lives from two manufacturers were tested. The relationship between trap characteristics and volume resistivity-temperature characteristics were analyzed based on Thermal Stimulated Current (TSC), volume resistivity-temperature test, Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). Furthermore, the application of trap characteristics in the quantitative evaluation of aging state of composite insulators was discussed. The results showed that there was a general negative correlation between the relative variation ratio of trap charges and the volume resistivity-temperature characteristics. Meanwhile, the physicochemical properties would change with the aging time, which would result in the increasing of electron traps. Combined with the TSC and volume resistivity test results, the trap characteristic thresholds which indicated the serious age of the composite insulators had been proposed.

  • Smart grid can two-way communication using ICT(Information & Communication Technology). Also, smart grid can supply to dynamic power that grafted to electric vehicle can activate to electric vehicle charging infrastructure and used to storage battery of home. Storage battery of home can resale to power provider. These electric vehicle charging infrastructure locate fixed on home, apartment, building, etc charging infrastructure that used fluid on user. If don't authentication for user of fluid user use to charging infrastructure, electric charging service can occurred to illegal use, electric charges and leakgage of electric information. In this paper, we propose smartcard and dynamic ID based user authentication scheme for used secure to electric vehicle service in smart grid environment.

  • On the basis of the principle of Bratch's electronegativity equalization, we calculated group partial charges and group electronegativities for nonionic surfactants with Pauling's elecoonegativity parameters by using numerical calculation method. From calculated outputs we have investigated structural stability of micelle, characteristics of hydrophilic and hydrophobic groups, and relation between CMC(Critical Micelle Concentraion) and group partial charge and group electronegativity of hydrophilic and hydrophobic groups for nonionic surfactants. We have known that CMC by micelle formation depends upon group partial charge and group electronegativity of hydrophilic and hydrophobic groups for surfactants. Also, the structural stability of micelle in H2O solution is related to the electric double layer by the hydrophilic group of nonionic surfactants with H atoms in water CMC is diminished by the decrease of repeating units in hydrophilic group at constant hydrophobic group and is diminished by the increments of alkyl chains in hydrophobic group at constant hydrophilic group for nonionic surfactants. In conclusion, CMC is diminished because there is no electrostatic repulsion and is diminished of Debye length by the increments of partial charge of hydrophobic group.

  • Analyze the customer daily load patterns, be used to determine the optimal charging and discharging schedule which can minimize the electrical charges through the battery energy storage system(BESS) installed in consumers is an object of this paper. BESS, which analyzes the load characteristics of customer and reduce the peak load, is essential for optimal charging and discharging scheduling to save electricity charges. This thesis proposes optimal charging and discharging scheduling method, using particle swarm optimization (PSO) and penalty function method, of BESS for reducing energy charge. Since PSO is a global optimization algorithm, best charging and discharging scheduling can be found effectively. In addition, penalty function method was combined with PSO in order to handle many constraint conditions. After analysing the load patterns of target BESS, PSO based on penalty function method was applied to get optimal charging and discharging schedule.

  • Oil-impregnated paper is a major type of insulation used in oil-filled converter transformers for both traditional and new energy systems. This paper presents and analyzes the results of the experiment conducted on the electrical aging of oil-impregnated paper under AC-DC combined voltages using the pulsed electro-acoustic (PEA) technique. The formation and dynamics of space charge affected the performance of insulation material. The electrical aged oil-paper insulation was obtained through electrical aged experiments under the voltages. Based on the PEA technique, measurements were carried out when the oil-paper insulation system was subjected to different stressing and aging times. The space charge dynamics in the bulk of the oil-paper insulation system with different aging times were measured and analyzed. Characteristic parameters such as the total charge injection amount, the total charges of fast moving and slow moving, and the distortion factor of electric field were calculated and discussed. Results show that the longer electrical aging time, the more charges trapped in the bulk of aging sample. It leads to larger distortion factor of electric field in the bulk of aging samples and accelerate degradation of oil-paper insulation under AC-DC combined voltages.

  • The friction factor unit was studied to find a more economic alternative compared to the conventional 30 mmAq/m. The pipe and pump for cooling water piping used in a failing were selected, and the friction factor unit was changed to calculate the pipe diameter and the brake shaft power. Based on current electric charges, After the brake shaft power was converted into operational costs based on current electric charges, then an economic analysis was conducted considering that incorporated the initial installation costs and operational costs for the pump. We found that the friction factor unit when using 20 mmAq/m is more economical than that with 30 mmAq/m, if the piping is used for more than 4 years. The small friction factor unit is desirable when the piping is used for quite a long period of time, and the selection of a more economic friction factor unit should considering the period of usage will be important.

  • Regression analysis to estimate the fitted models and test hypotheses are basic statistical tools for survey data as well as experimental data. Data is collected as pairs of independent and dependent variables, and statistics are computed using matrix calculation. To estimate a best fitted model is a key to maximize reliability of regression analysis. To fit a regression model, plot data on XY axis and select the most fitted models. Researchers estimate the best model and test hypothesis with MS Excel's graph menu and matrix computation functions. In this study, I develop macros to estimate the fitted regression model and test hypotheses of relationship between variables. Subway electric charges data with one dependent variable and three independent variables are tested using developed macros, and compared with the results using built-in Excel of regression analysis.

  • To verify the effectiveness of the proposed system, the charges in power demand are analyzed for an AC and DC distribution system for the existing V2G concept and electric vehicle charging stations connected to a Battery Energy Storage System. In addition, since many power-converter-based chargers are operated simultaneously in an EV charging station, the change in the system harmonics when several EV chargers are connected at a single point is analyzed through simulations.

  • The role of the electron diffusion on the stability of a Townsend discharge was investigated with the linear stability theory for the one-dimensional fluid equation with drift-diffusion approximation. It was proved that the discovered instability occurs as a result of the coupled action of electron diffusion and the perturbed electric field by space charge. The larger electron diffusion results in the faster growth rate at the regime of small perturbation of the electric field by space charges.
