  • A crack with electrically impermeable surfaces in an electrostrictive material subjected to uniform electric loading is analysed. The effect of electric yielding on stress intensity factor is investigated by using a small scale yielding model and a strip yield zone model. Complete forms of electric fields and elastic fields are derived by using complex function theory. The electrical yield zone shapes for two models are different each other. The two models, however, predict similar yield zone sizes under the small scale yielding conditions. It is found that the influence of electric yielding on the stress intensity factor is insensitive to the modeling of the electrical yield zone shape.

  • This paper deals with a measurement system of a distance between lightning strokes and observatory station and spectrum analysis of electric fields radiated from lightning discharges. The distance measurement system, which consists of a loop type magnetic field sensor, a microphone and one chip microprocessor, is connected to a personal computer through RS232 port to acquire and process the data. This system is to use a difference of propagation velocity between an electromagnetic wave and a sonic wave produced by lightning discharge. Also, an electric field waveform and a frequency spectrum were investigated by an electric field measurement system with a hemisphere antenna and a spectrum analyzer with a biconical antenna and a log-periodic antenna, respectively. The results would be used as a basic reference to protect the power systems and electric circuits from lightning overvoltages.

  • In this paper, the electric and magnetic field waveforms produced by cloud-to-groud lightning discharges were measured and statistically analyzed. The measuring system used to measure the electric and magnetic fields is consisted of the hemisphere electric field sensor, the loop magnetic field sensor and the data acquisition system. The stepped leader is appeared before the return stroke. Some parameters of the electric and magnetic fields produced by the stooped leaders in cloud-to-ground lightning discharges were investigated.

  • In this paper, we developed 3 dimensional Surface Charge Method which could calculate electric fields inside GIS with a small void in solid insulator or with a metal impurity. We find a metal impurity makes much more non-uniform electric field distribution inside GIS than a small void. We also find electric field is much more increased when a metal impurity is close to solid insulator surface at high voltage conductor.

  • These days, most of electric power facilities need high stability. Therefore integrated system has been required to monitor and control electronic power distribution system in fields at all times when the interruption of electric power has occurred. To construct this system, unit that convert and process the input signal from fields needed. And for control and monitoring from remote place MMI software is required. Lastly network equipments are required for real-time communications. So, in this paper, units for control and monitoring of emergency power generator and for electric power monitoring in normal electric power and interruption of electric power are developed. Also integrated remote system for monitoring in remote is developed.

  • In recent society, the quality of human life has improved due to the use of electric appliances and the high powered electrical equipments. However, lots of electric appliances and equipments generate the electromagnetic field hazard. Many studies have been made about the wrong behavior of machines due to electromagnetic fields, the interferences in communication equipments, the possibility of the electromagnetic field hazard in human body, etc. There exist international standards about the RF equipments (ex. mobile phone, antenna, etc.). But, many researchers involved in power frequency electric and magnetic field only propose the prudential avoidance. In this paper, induced currents in a human body model due to magnetic fields in high speed railway are calculated by two dimensional impedance method. Power frequency(60Hz) magnetic fields are calculated and induced currents are simulated by Faraday's law. Induced currents are simulated with induced voltage, human body model impedances due to Ohm's law, magnetic fields derived from Biot-Savart's law and Transmission Line Method in high speed railway.

  • The efficiency of such work highly depend on the worker's safety, who is protected by tools such as gloves, sleeves, blankets and flexible coverings among other manufactured natural-rubber goods. Use, storage and maintenance of these tools guarantee the quality and durability of the material. However, it might be observed that good tools made of such material are disapproved of when received from manufacturers or when they are removed from the warehouse for replacement. This work shows the experimental results obtained from ageing at a temperature of $100^{\circ}C$ for 48, 70 and 312 h, although the application of AC electrical tension in samples and the measuring of current leakage are presented. The measurements in samples were carried out with samples prepared from the deformulated commercial materials and respectively reformulated into thin films. The obtained results showed the mechanisms of conduction of samples in low and high electric fields. It was also identified an electric tension transition showing that in low fields it prevails the Ohm's law conduction, and in high electric fields it prevails the conduction of space charge limited current (SCLC). These results can support the natural rubber formulation process having as their main objective the reducing of the mechanisms that occur under high conduction current in high electric fields, which leads the material to a dielectric breakdown. It is necessary to research this raw material from different internationally standard clones to characterize dielectric and electric properties for industrial applications. Moreover, this natural material has a low commercial price when compared to the synthetic ones.

  • This paper deals with the electric fileds calculation by combination of finite element method and charge simulation method. Since this method has the advantage of both F.E.M and C.S.M.the application of this method is more useful for the caleulation of non-enclosed fields, multi-dielectric fields, space charge fields and so on. On the basis of this method, computer programs for the calculation of two-demensional and axisymmetric fields were developed. This paper shows that the calculation results are accurately abtained through several examples.

  • Recently, there are growing concerns about power frequency electric and magnetic fields coming out from the high voltage transmission lines, because of the wide spread perception of their probable harmful effect on human body. In connection with this trend, this paper describes the electric and magnetic fields measurement result around 154 kV and 345 kV transmission lines, a comparison of measured EMF to calculated one and the correlations between transmission lines currents and measured magnetic fields. Daily maximum and minimum magnetic field quantities under the selected 154 kV and 345 kV transmission lines had been measured for 1 year of 1997 and the average value of magnetic field exposure under the lines were calculated and presented based on the measured data.

  • The effects of power frequency electric and magnetic fields have been a source of concern for many years. Electromagnetic fields can pose a theat to both signal system of electrified railways and human body around railways. It is believed that, though the electromagnetic fields do no serious harm to human health, they do induce biological effects. This paper estimates the electromagnetic fields near Kyeongbu high speed railways with numerical data. The charge simulation method and surface charge method are used to calculate the electric field of 2 dimensional power distribution lines and rails and magnetic field is calculated on the base of Biot-Sarart's law.
