Demand-side Management can be defined as'any utility activity aimed at modifying customers' use of energy to produce desired changes in the utility's load shape'. Customers benefit by being able to control energy costs and improve quality of life and become more productive. Utilities benefit from DSM's value as a resource that enhances asset utilization and reduces both fuel costs and environmental emissions. The scope of DSM includes load management through rate schedules and conservation by improving energy effciency and using electricity consumption effectively. This paper study the DSM resource evaluation and customer behavior analysis todesign the DSM Program plan in response to customer needs. We develop basic system dynamics model to analysis the customer behavior based on a survey research. The DSM Program participants in the Hi- efficiency Inverter, Electric motor and efficient lighting applicancies operating by Conservation program 2002 become the survey objects. DSM resource evaluation evaluate firstt the distribution potentialities of each machine and then forecast the degree of diffusion. We apply the system dynamic approach to simulate the dynamic DSM market situation at the domestic beginning. This model will give the energy Planner the opportunity to create different scenarios for DSM program planning. Also it will lead to increased understanding of the dynamic DSM market

Research and development on superconducting magnetic energy storage (SMES) system have been done to realize efficient electric power management for several decades. Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute (KERI) has developed a 3MJ/750kV A SMES system to improve power quality in sensitive electric loads. It consists of an IGBT based power converter, NbTi mixed matrix Rutherford cable superconducting magnet, and a cryostat with HTS current leads. A computer code was developed to find the parameters of the SMES magnet which has minimum amount of superconductors for the same stored energy, and the 3MJ SMES magnet was designed based upon that. This paper describes the fabrication and experimental results of a 3MJ/750kV A SMES system.

Lithium-ion batteries have been used in energy storage systems (ESS), electric vehicles (EVs), etc. due to their high safety, fast charging and long lifecycle. This paper aims to improve the convenience of users by changing the wired battery stack used in the battery pack, wirelessly using RFID, reducing the internal volume of the battery pack, reducing the size of the battery pack. In this paper, we propose a battery management system which can provide the flexibility of battery pack expansion and maintenance by using lithium ion battery, battery management system (BMS) and wireless communication for light weight of 1Kw small battery pack. Also, by flexibly arranging the cell layout inside the battery pack and designing to reduce the size of the outer shape of the battery pack.

Recently, home energy management system (HEMS) for power consumption reduction has been widely used and studied. The HEMS performs electric power consumption control for the indoor electric device connected to the HEMS. However, a traditional HEMS is used for passive control method using some particular power saving devices. Disadvantages with this traditional HEMS is that these power saving devices should be newly installed to build HEMS environment instead of existing home appliances. Therefore, an HEMS, which performs with existing home appliances, is needed to prevent additional expenses due to the purchase of state-of-the-art devices. In this paper, an intelligent inference algorithm for EMS at home for non-power saving electronic equipment, called legacy devices, is proposed. The algorithm is based on the adaptive network fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) and has a subsystem that notifies retraining schedule to the ANFIS to increase the inference performance. This paper discusses the overview and the architecture of the system, especially in terms of the retraining schedule. In addition, the comparison results show that the proposed algorithm is more accurate than the classic ANFIS-based EMS system.
This paper presents a design of network and database structure of the integrated system for power system operational planning and analysis that will be more economical and stable of power system operation. An alias of this system is Highly Integrated Total Energy System(HITES). The Client/server model of HITES is designed as a remote data management model. The input/output-type of application programs and Oracle server is standardized. The separated user-databases from main-database strengthen security of HITES. It is plan to do that tables and relationships are defined by database designs. The connection of application program and DBMS of HITES will be tested through database design and data construction.

A novel smart metering technique capable of anomaly detection was proposed for real-time home power management system. Smart meter data generated in real-time were obtained from 900 households of single apartments. To detect outliers and missing values in smart meter data, a deep learning model, the autoencoder, consisting of a graph convolutional network and bidirectional long short-term memory network, was applied to the smart metering technique. Power management based on the smart metering technique was executed by multi-objective optimization in the presence of a battery storage system and an electric vehicle. The results of the power management employing the proposed smart metering technique indicate a reduction in electricity cost and amount of power supplied by the grid compared to the results of power management without anomaly detection.
The era of IoT, which figures exchanging data from the internet between things is coming. Recently, former electric power energy policy paradigm, namely Supply side paradigm, is changing, because electric power energy consumption is rapidly increasing. As new paradigm for this limit, convergence of existing electric power grid and ICT(Information and Communication Technology) will accelerate intellectualization of electric power device, its operation system. This change brought opened electric power grid. Consequently, attacks to the national electric power grid are increasing. On this paper, we will analyze security threats of existing IoT, discuss security weakness on electric power industry IoT and suggest needed security requirements, security technology.
In line with the expansion of electric railway, reducing carbon emission and optimal train operation are required by economical, eco-friendly and efficient management. Most of the energy consumption in electric railway is consumed by train operation. So it is important that minimize the energy consumption in train operation. An analysis of the operation performance of the new model vehicle which in South Korea, Korail introduced shows that the energy consumption is different in line with the skill level of the engine driver. In this study, the know-how of train operation of a skilled engine driver is systematized by using artificial intelligence, and the technique which supports engine drivers with train operation was offered. As a result of applying in South Korea, the Gyeongbu line by using simulation, it confirmed that the maximum 20% can reduce the energy consumption in comparison with unskilled engine drivers in case of applying the Expert System.

Recently, by the whole world paradigm shift to "Low Carbon Green Growth", it is required to renovate National Transportation and Logistics System. Transportation accounts for 21% of the total energy consumption and 20% of the total $CO_2$ emission, and also places its main reliance on fossil fuels. From green point of view, electric railway system is superior to the other transportation alternatives, but also required to develop the innovative technologies for high efficiency and low energy consumption. In this paper, the concept of railway green operation system by regenerative synchronized driving is presented, including the numerical example and the estimated effect.

The lithium-ion battery pack of an electric vehicle (EV) deserves to be considered for an alternative use within smart-grid infrastructure. Despite the long automotive service life, EV batteries retain over 70~80% of their initial capacity. These battery packs must be managed for their reliability and safety. Therefore, a battery management system (BMS) should use specific algorithms to measure and estimate the status of the battery. Most importantly, the BMS of a grid-connected energy storage system (ESS) must ensure that the lithium-ion battery does not catch fire or explode due to an internal short from uncontrolled dendrite growth. In other words, the BMS of a lithium-ion battery pack should be capable of detecting the battery's status based on the electrochemical reaction continuously until the end of the battery's lifespan. In this paper, we propose a new protection algorithm for a dendritic lithium battery. The proposed algorithm has applied a parameter from battery pack aging results and has control power managing.
