A Study on the Analysis of the Magnetic Fields Generated by the operation of Electric Appliances (전기기구의 운전중에 발생되는 자계성분해석에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, the reponse characteristic of the time-changing magnetic field measurement system by using the self-integrated magnetic sensor is investigated. The measurement system has the frequency bandwidth of 40[Hz]-50[kHz]. The time-changing magnetic fields generated by the operations of small-size electric machines are investigated. The magnetic field generated by the starting and/or the operation of electric appliances mainly includes the odd harmonics such as the third, the fifth, the seventh, and so on.

  • Small household appliances such as electric rice cooker, a vacuum cleaner, an electric fan, etc. are diverse and complex due to the materials and components and waste streams from the manufacturing processes. In the present study, physical characterization of small e-wastes was analyzed on major items including electric rice cooker after manual dismantling. Small household appliances is an important potential source of waste plastic, however, recycling plastics from small e-waste is still unusual. The present communication gives results of separation processes on black plastics and the limitations of these sorting processes in used small household appliances.

  • In recent years, electric shock accidents due to electric leakage currents of household appliances such as computers, TVs, refrigerators, and LED lights are continuously occurring in homes and industrial buildings. And it is not easy to check the leakage current of each household appliances connected in parallel at the rear end of the module. In addition, the leakage current flowing through the path of the normal current other than the existing current leakage circuit breakers are installed in the distribution box, only the function to cut off the power when the leakage. Therefore, there are various disasters such as electric shock and fire caused by short circuit of household appliances, and the risk of such leakage current is seriously presented. In this paper, we propose a method to implement a leakage monitoring system that can be monitored at all times using Zigbee communication based on IEEE 80215.4, which has advantages in low power and low cost among short range wireless communication systems.

Evaluation of communication reliability of a test-bed networked to the home appliances with PLC modems for the Internet accessed home automation

  • This paper presents a systematic method of probing channel characteristics and communication reliabilities of home power line communication network applied to the Internet accessed control of home appliances. The effects of the three performance deteriorating factors, i.e., additive noise, channel attenuation, and intersymbol interference, can be systematically measured by applying the channel probing waveform in the frequency range from 100㎑ to 450㎑. Probability of bit error is derived with the probed channel parameters of the signal attenuation, noise and signal-to-interference ratio read in the frequency domain. The agreement between the derived probability of bit ewer and the measured probability of bit error support the validity of the proposed approach of probing home power line channel characteristics. The experimental results performed with the constructed test-bed applying the Proposed channel probing method and the operation reliability measurement of the overall networked system also support the feasibility of commercially deploying the PLC modem installed home appliances and their services for the Internet accessed home automation in densely populated residential apartment complexes.

Threatening privacy by identifying appliances and the pattern of the usage from electric signal data (스마트 기기 환경에서 전력 신호 분석을 통한 프라이버시 침해 위협)

  • In Smart Grid, smart meter sends our electric signal data to the main server of power supply in real-time. However, the more efficient the management of power loads become, the more likely the user's pattern of usage leaks. This paper points out the threat of privacy and the need of security measures in smart device environment by showing that it's possible to identify the appliances and the specific usage patterns of users from the smart meter's data. Learning algorithm PCA is used to reduce the dimension of the feature space and k-NN Classifier to infer appliances and states of them. Accuracy is validated with 10-fold Cross Validation.
