Presently, there is increasing demand for geriatric nursing care due to increasing proportion of elderly population and extended age. And, of particular importance in deforming the effectiveness of nursing care given to the elderly is the attitude of nursing personnel toward the elderly patient. This study was intendent to investigate the attitudes of baccalaureate nursing students toward the elderly, and to investigate any possible correlation between these attitudes and the following variables: the students' levels (freshman, sophomore, junior, senior), their preferences for var-ious fields of specialization in nursing after graduation, their clinical experiences with geriatric-patients, their personal experience with elderly family members, their educational experience of the elderly's health problems and geriatric nursing, and their experience with relatives and acquaintances over 60 years of age. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to compile basic data about the attitudes of nursing students toward the elderly in order to contribute to the improvement of geriatric nursing. The subjects for this study were 259 nursing students: 163 in the College of Nursing at E-womans University., and 96 in the Department of Nursing in K. College. Data was collected from the 11th of Sep., to the 8th of Oct., 1981, using the Tuckman-Lorge Attitude Questionnaire which contained 131 items excepting 6 items. The attitudes toward the elderly was scored by the use of mean and standard deviation. The relations between attitudes toward the elderly and six independent vairables were analysed by T-test. The results which were obtained are as follows : 1. The attitude score of nursing students was M=71.67 S.D= 16.18. Nursing students agreed with 54.8% of the stereotypic statements, and they had stereotypic attitudes toward the elderly relatively. (P<0.01). 2. There was a significant difference between the attitudes of nursing students toward the elderly, and sophomores had a less stereotypic attitudes than juniors and seniors (P<0.01). 3. There was significant difference between the attitudes toward the elderly and the preferences for various fields of specialization in nursing after graduation, and nursing students those who wanted maternity fields had a more stereotypic attitudes than others (P<0.05, p<0.01). 4. There was no significant difference between the attitudes toward the elderly and the clinical experience with the geriatric patients (P>0.05). 5. There was no significant difference between the attitude3 toward the elderly and the personal experience with elderly family members (F>0.05). 6. There was no significant difference between the attitudes toward the elderly and the educational experience of the elderly's health problems and geriatric nursing (P>0.05). 7. There was no significant difference between the attitudes toward the elderly and the experience with relatives and acquaintances over 60 years of age (P>0.05).
The purpose of this study was to verify the effect of senior simulation on geriatric unit nurses' attitude and job satisfaction toward the elderly with one group pretest-posttest design. The subjects of this study were the 30 nurses who are working in geriatric units in a general hospital in Daegu, Korea and who were well informed about the purpose of this study and allowed to join the study. The data were collected from August 23 to September 6, 2006. The experimental procedure was to do activities for daily living for 45 minutes wearing senior simulation suit. Self administered questionnaires were used to ask the nurses' attitude toward the elderly and job satisfaction in their work before, right after, and one week after senior simulation. According to the results of this study, there were significant changes in the geriatric nurses' attitude toward the elderly and job satisfaction after aging simulation implying that senior simulation is an effective intervention to facilitate nurses to do quality care for the elderly with sympathetic understanding and attitude. Senior simulation needs to be applied to geriatric education for the nursing students and health care providers who are involved in care for the elderly.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate about the image of aging and attitudes toward the elderly. Method: The instruments in this study were used questionnaires developed by Han and Won. The subjects were 75 nurses and 74 nursing students. The data was collected from May. second to 30th, 2006. Data was analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA and Pearson correlation coefficients using SPSS Win program. Results: The level of the image of aging was relatively positive between nurses and nursing students. The level of attitudes toward the elderly showed relatively high either. Their image of aging and attitudes toward the elderly were significantly correlated. Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, it is necessary to develop education programs and curriculum in nursing school to increase the positive image of aging and attitudes toward the elderly.

This study examined the effect of the distance Infection Control Education Program (ICEP), developed based on the ADDIE model, on infection control knowledge, attitude, and performance among care workers in long-term care facilities nationwide. The program, developed based on the ADDIE model, was applied to 173 care workers directly responsible for nursing care of elderly residents in lomg-term care facilities. The distance ICEP for care workers was conducted through the website and lasted 30 minutes for each of the eight topics. To determine the effectiveness of the education, infection control knowledge, attitude, performance, and satisfaction were surveyed before and four weeks after the program. Differences in infection control knowledge, attitude, and performance before and after the distance ICEP were assessed by a t-test. A significant difference was observed in knowledge and infection control performance after the distance ICEP was administered to care workers. In the sub-domains of infection control performance, overall understanding of infection, regular infection control education, infection control by special pathogen (multidrug-resistant bacteria, tuberculosis, tick-borne infectious diseases), and detailed infection control education by infection site (pressure ulcers and urinary tract infections) were significantly improved. Infection control knowledge and performance improved through the distance ICEP applied to care workers. Satisfaction also displayed high scores on most items and indicated that it was helpful for infection control in facilities, confirming the effectiveness of infection control education. Based on the survey of care workers nationwide, the infection education program can be effectively used for care workers in the future.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to construct and verify a structural equation model of advance directive intent among a Korean group in their middle-age. Methods: Data were collected between May 1 and 30, 2017, from 398 people. The endogenous and exogenous variables of the hypothetical model consisted of elderly parents' care burden, health status, attitude towards withdrawal of life sustaining treatment, advance directive efficacy, and advance directive intent. The collected data were analyzed using the SPSS/WIN 24.0 and Mplus 7.4. Results: The hypothetical model demonstrated a good fit: χ2=223.79(df=109, p<.001), CMIN/df=2.05 CFI=.96, TLI=.96, RMSEA=.05, SRMR=.06. Elderly parents' care burden and health status showed statistically significant direct effects with attitude toward withdrawal of life sustaining treatment(β=.17, p=.001; β=.21, p<.001) and advance directive efficacy(β=.11, p=.040; β=.19, p=.002), respectively. Attitude toward withdrawal of life sustaining treatment and advance directive efficacy showed statistically significant direct effects on advance directive intent(β=.15, p=.007; β=.48, p<.001). Elderly parents' care burden and health status had a significant indirect effect on advance directive intent through attitude toward withdrawal of life sustaining treatment(β=.01, p=.041; β=.05, p=.036) and advance directive efficacy(β=.06, p=.049; β=.16, p=.006), respectively. The variables accounted for 26.1% of advance directive intent of the Korean group in their middle-age. Conclusion: It is necessary to develop an advance directive education program based on variables affecting advance directive intent for individuals in their middle-age.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine satisfaction with counseling in long-term care service, and to compare the scores of counseling satisfaction according to variables among beneficiaries of Korean long-term care services. Methods: Questionnaires were completed by 445 beneficiaries of long-term care insurance to measure satisfaction with counseling. Research design was cross-sectional descriptive design. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test and ANOVA for evaluating differences in satisfaction with counseling according to variables including economic status, the level of long-term care insurance approval, duration of long term care service, and conditions of counseling. Results: The score of satisfaction with counseling was somewhat high as 71.67. The score of counselor's attitude was highest among the subcategories of satisfaction. The factors that influenced satisfaction with counseling were frequency and time of counseling (F=12.19, p<.001). Conclusion: Home-based individual counseling is necessary for the elderly who need long-term care service. The National Long-term Care Insurance Corporation should offer counseling and assistance to elders and their caregivers about long term care insurance.
This study was conducted to identify college students' supportive attitude toward the elderly and their awareness of the socialization of care for the elderly, since they will have the responsibility for and the support of the aged society in the near future. This study was also conducted to analyze the factors which affect the socialization of elderly care, and to contribute to building a care system which promotes ahealthy and happy lifestyle for the elderly. After conducting a survey of 1,100 students from13 universities around the entire country, I have analyzed 1,089 data forms, and omitted 11 data entries which had errors or were not answered. 1. Those surveyed are 1,089 students from 13 universities around the entire country. Regional distributions are as follows : 263 students from 4 universities in Daegu and Kyongsangbuk Do(24.2%), 291 students from 3 universities in Busan and Kyongsangnam Do(26.7%), 272 students from 2 universities in Jeolla Do(25.0%), 263 students from 4 universities in Seoul and Gyeonggi Do. Males are 51.7% and females are 48.3% of these students. 2. Instrumental supportive sense level is high in men and emotional supportive sense level is higher in women. Also emotional supportive sense is higher in groups of those having more family members and coming from agricultural regions. 3. The sense of living with aged parents is higher in those living with grandparents than those living separate. The sense of living with sons and daughters after aging is stronger in the students from the Science and Engineering Departments than in the Social and Human Sciences Departments; also higher for men than women. 4. Recognition of elderly care socialization is higher in those from Social and Human Sciences Departments than from Science and Engineering Departments; higher in the case of upper classmenand aged groups, groups having fewer family members than more family members, and in the case of living separated from grandparents. 5. The factors affecting the sense of living with grandparents were family cohesion and instrumental supportive sense. The factors affecting the sense of elderly care socialization were family cohesion, instrumental supportive sense, and emotional supportive sense. From the results it is concluded that to insure a healthy and happy lifestyle for aged people, elderly care socialization offered by society and the country must provide desirable, appropriate care services based on the centralized support system of the family. In order to do this, we propose that elderly care needs inter-family and inter-generational fusion programs to improve family cohesion and care recognition. Also, elderly care is in urgent need to build a strong Family and Health Welfare System for care socialization.
Objectives: Oral health management is important to improve the quality of life among the elderly. This study investigated the performance of elderly oral health management among some care workers in long-term-care hospitals. Methods: The study subjects were 174 care workers in 10 long-term-care hospitals. Data on general characteristics of care workers, attitude, recognition and knowledge of elderly health, performance of elderly oral health management were collected by a self-administered questionnaire. Data were analyzed through descriptive analysis, t-test, ANOVA, correlation and multiple regression analysis by using a SPSS version 23.0 statistical program. Results: The performance score of oral health management was $4.34{\pm}0.64$ on the 5-point Likert scale. The subjects who exercised more than 2 times a month were significantly higher in their performance of elderly oral health management compared to subjects who did not exercise (${\beta}=0.232$, p=0.035). And, the subjects who cared 10-19 persons were significantly higher in performance of elderly oral health management compared to subjects who cared more than 20 elderly (${\beta}=0.246$, p=0.020). The oral health behavior of care worker (${\beta}=0.271$, p<0.001) and the knowledge of oral health care (${\beta}=0.055$, p=0.008) were positively related to the performance of elderly oral health management. Conclusions: The educational program designed to improve knowledge of care workers in accordance with the standard textbook for training care workers should be developed, and the long term education program should be reinforced to improve the performance for elderly oral health care. If care workers can care a proper number of old persons, they will give oral health care to them.
Purpose: This study was investigated the knowledge, attitudes, and educational needs of nursing students regarding the sexuality of elderly individuals. Methods: This was a descriptive study. Data were collected from April $1^{st}$ to $22^{nd}$, 2016. One hundred ninety-three nursing students in Daejeon city and Chungcheongnam-do were surveyed. Data were analyzed using SPSS 21.0. Results: Mean scores on the knowledge, attitudes, and educational needs measures were 15.74/29, 28.45/40, and 36.67/50 respectively. There were significantly differences in major variables according to needs for sexual education of the elderly. There were also significant differences in knowledge and educational needs depending on students' age and year in school. Higher levels of knowledge of sexuality were significantly correlated with more positive attitudes and higher educational needs. Positive attitudes were also correlated with higher educational needs. Conclusion: Nursing students showed a low level of knowledge and poor attitudes towards sexuality in the elderly. This suggests that there is a need for education on the sexuality of the elderly in the nursing curriculum. This education would guide nursing students to obtain correct knowledge and positive attitudes so that they would be able to provide effective and appropriate sexuality care for elderly patients.
Purpose: This research intended to explore a causal relationship among empowerment, job satisfaction, organizational citizen behavior, and customer orientation of employees working at the elderly care hospital, and we intended to explore mediating role of job satisfaction and organizational citizen behavior(OCB) and moderating role in the relationship of them. Methods: A survey tool was questionnaire that had obtained validity and reliability through literature survey and pretest survey, and sample 388 was analyzed through SEM using SPSS21.0 and AMOS21.0. Results: All theoretical relationships on research model were turned out except one between empowerment and customer orientation. Job satisfaction and organizational citizen behavior play an important mediating role in the research model. LMX plays a moderating role in the research model. Conclusion: In order to delegate the duties of the elderly nursing facility and to manage and operate the efficient human resources, the quality of the LMX should be raised so that the empowerment, job satisfaction and organizational citizenship behavior of the employees ultimately strengthen the customer orientation of them.
