This paper describes the system engineering approach for the heat transfer analysis of plus7 fuel rod for APR1400 using, a commercial software, ANSYS. The fuel rod is composed of fuel pellets, fill gas, end caps, plenum spring and cladding. The heat is transferred from the pellet outward by conduction through the pellet, fill gas and cladding and further by convection from the cladding surface to the coolant in the flow channel. The goal of this paper is to demonstrate the temperature and heat flux change from the fuel centerline to the cladding surface when having maximum fuel centerline temperature at 100% power. This phenomenon is modelled using the ANSYS FEM code and analyzed for steady state temperature distribution across the fuel pellet and clad and the results were compared to the standard values given in APR1400 SSAR. Specifically the applicability of commercial software in the evaluation of nuclear fuel temperature distribution has been accounted. It is note that special codes have been used for fuel rod mechanical analysis which calculates interrelated effects of temperature, pressure, cladding elastic and plastic behavior, fission gas release, and fuel densification and swelling under the time-varying irradiation conditions. To satisfactorily meet this objective we apply system engineering methodologies to formulate the process and allow for verification and validation of the results acquired. The close proximity of the results obtained validated the accuracy of the FEM analysis of the 2D axisymmetric model and 3D model. This result demonstrated the validity of commercial software instead of proprietary in-house code that is more costly to develop and maintain.

In impermeable ground, water pressure is applied due to discontinuity such as joint or fissure. Therefore, water pressure should be considered in design regardless of ground condition. However, when the shape of segmental lining is circular, water pressure may reduce the lining member force, so it is important to define the assumption and the concept of design in case of high water pressure. This paper presents the concepts of design of the lining of shield tunnel at high water pressure and in impermeable ground condition. In addition, the member forces in various load conditions were compared in this study. (elastic equation, closed form solutions, beam-spring model).

The segment lining which consists of segments and joints are main component of shield tunnel. There are a number of methods that are being used in design which compute the sectional forces of a ring of segment lining. The traditional design methods which do not consider the effect of joints have been commonly used for design procedure without a specific verification of structural analysis. This paper presents the result of a comparative study for analytical and numerical models of the shield tunnel segment lining. For the traditional methods, the elastic equation method and the Duddeck & Erdmann method were considered. The ring-beam and the continuum analysis model were also considered as the numerical model.
This paper addresses a novel application of meshes to analyzing the deformation patterns of 2D signals. The proposed mesh is distinguished form the previous models in that it includes simulated charges in each node that interact with external charges comprising an input pattern. Therelaxation of the mesh given an input is carried out by any of the well-known numerical integration techniques. The result of the relaxation is a deformed mesh. This Paper provides four criterion functions for measuring the pattern deformation. A set of trained meshes was created from the simple average of target patterns. Experimental results show that these measures, although highly intuitive, are not good enough to capture the amount and characteristics of pattern deformation. If more sophisticated measures are found and incorporated into the relaxation process, we expect that a better and high-performance mesh framework is realized.

We performed the subjective sensibility evaluation on knitted fabrics by the following procedures: setting acrylic fabrics used for S/S among fabrics as basis, five kinds of blended spun yarns and four kinds of twisted filament yarns made by different twisting methods then, we did questionnaire survey targeting sixty females in the expert groups. Utilizing SPSS 12.0, correlation, ANOVA, Duncan, and Multidimensional Standard way were analyzed. The results are as following. First, the result of evaluating on preferred knits followed by the analysis of the sense factor, in the 'drape sense', the acrylic/rayon blended knit was preferred as the most flexible, pliable, and elastic knit; in weight/bulk factor, the acrylic filament knit the most twisted was preferred as the least bulk, thin, cool and transparent knit; in 'surface depression sense' factor, A(F)W acrylic/wool blended knit was preferred as the most haggard, straight, dry knit. Second, the result of evaluating on preferred knits followed by the analysis of the sensibility factor, in the 'neatness' the acrylic filament hit was preferred as the most clean, neat and delightful knit; in the 'comfortableness', the acrylic/wool blended knit was preferred as the most natural, stable, and comfortable knit. Third, according to the result of evaluating on preferred knits as the spring and summer, generally the acrylic filament twisted yarn knits were more preferred than the acrylic blended yarns. However the preference on the kinds of the acrylic twisted filament yarn showed that there is a little difference on the acrylic blended yarn knit.

An analytical procedure is proposed for the seismic analysis of a soil-structure interaction system with besemat uplift, including the effects of concurrent vertical seismic ground motion, nonlinear distribution of bearing soil pressure under the basemat, and 3-dimensional behavior of the system. The soil-structure interaction system is assumed to have rectangular-shaped basemat on elastic half-space. Nonlinearity of soil spring constants and soil damping coefficients induced by the base mat uplift is modeled by considering not only the reduction of contact area between soil and structure but also the effects of rigid body rotational motion of the superstructure, and the shift in the point of action of the resultant reaction on the basemat. Throught various parametric studies. it has been confirmed that the seismic responses of the superstructure reduce notably while response at the basemat increases considerably. The results also show that the effects of concurrent vertical ground motion. nonlinear soil pressure distribution under basemat, and 3-dimensional behavior of the system shall be included in uplift analysis in order to obtain the correct structural responses.

The monopole theory has long been used to model air-pumped effect from the elastic cavities in car tire. This approach models the change of an air as a Piston moving backward and forward on a spring and equates local air movements exactly with the volume changes of the system. Thus, the monopole theory has a restricted domain of applicability due to the usual assumption of a small amplitude acoustic wave equation and acoustic monopole theory This paper describes an approach to predict the air-pumping noise of a car tyre with CFD/Kirchhoff integral method. The tyre groove is simply modeled as piston-cavity-sliding door geometry and with the aid of CFD technique flow properties in the groove of rolling car tyre are acquired.'rhese unsteady flow data are used as a air-pumping source in the next CFD calculation of full tyre-road geometry. Acoustic far field is predicted from Kirchhoff integral method by using unsteady flow data in space and time which is provided by the CFD calculation of full tyre-road domain. This approach can cover the non-linearity of acoustic monopole theory with the aid of Non-linear governing equation in CFD calculation. The method proposed in this paper is applied to the prediction of air-pumping noise of simply modeled car tyre and through the predicted results, the influence of nonlinear effect on air-pumping noise propagation is investigated.
This study proposes a new technology for a smart damper with flag-shaped behavior using the combination of magnetic friction and rubber springs. The magnet provides friction and, thus, energy dissipation, and the rubber springs with precompression contribute to present self-centering capacity of the damper. To verify their performance, this study conducts dynamic tests of magnet frictional dampers and precompressed rubber springs. For the purpose, hexahedron Neodymium (NdFeB) magnets and polyurethane rubber cylinders are used. In the dynamic tests, loading frequency varies from 0.1 to 2.0 Hz. The magnets provide almost perfect rectangular behavior in force-deformation curve. The rubber springs are tested without or with precompression. The rubber springs show larger rigid force with increasing precompression. Lastly, this study discusses combination of rigid-elastic behavior and friction to generate 'flag-shaped' behavior for a smart damper and suggests how to combine the magnets and the rubber springs to obtain the flag-shaped behavior.
Recently, as the size of buildings structure becomes large increases, their mat area of building structure is supported or by an inhomogeneous foundation. This paper presents a vibration analysis on thick plates subjected to in-plane force is presented in this paper. The rectangular plate is isotropic, homogeneous, and composed of a linearly elastic material. A vibration analysis of the rectangular thick plate iwas done by useing ofarectangular finite element with 8 nodes and 9 nodes. In this study, the foundation was idealized as a Pasternak foundation model. A Pasternak foundation haves a shear layer on Winkler's model, which idealizes the foundation as a vertical spring. In order tTo analysze the vibration of a plate supported on by an inhomogeneous Pasternak foundation, the value of the Winkler foundation parameter of the central and border zones of the plate awere chosen as WFP1 and WFP2. (fFigure 4.). The Winkler foundation parameter of WFP1 and WFP2 is varied from 0 to 10, $10^2$, and $10^3$ and the shear foundation parameters is were 0, 5, and 10. The ratio of the in-plane force to the critical load iwas applied as 0.4 to 0.8

Dynamic response analysis in time dimain is conducted for floating bridges with discrete pontoons subject to spatial variation of ground motions. The Spatial variation of ground motions is considered with the coherency function model which represents wave passage, incoherence and local site effects. The superstructure of the bridge is represented by space frame and elastic catenary cable elements, the abutment us modelde with the spring element of FHWA guideline for considering soil structure interaction and the concept of retardation function is utilized to consider the frequency dependency of the hydrodynamic coefficients which are obtainde by boundary element method. multiple support excitations considering the spatial variation. The noticeable amplification of the response can be shown when the spatial variation of ground motions is incorporated in the anallysis of floating bridges.
