  • The accuracy of face recognition used unmanned security system is very important and necessary. However, face recognition is a lot of restriction due to the change of distortion of face image, illumination, face size, face expression, round image. We propose a hybrid neural network for improve the performance of the face recognition. The proposed method is consisted of SOM and LVQ. In order to verify usefulness of the proposed method, we make a comparison between eigenface method, hidden Markov model method, multi-layer neural network.

  • Recognition of posed face is one of the most challenging problems in the field of face recognition. In this paper, as a preprocessing step for recognizing such faces, a method to transform non-frontal face images into frontal face images is proposed. The linear relationship between eigenfaces is utilized to obtain a pose transform matrix. The proposed method is verified with a well-known face recognition algorithm based on PCA/LDA. Compared to the conventional algorithm applied to the original posed face images, our experimental results indicated that the proposed method contributes to improve the recognition rate of such faces by $20\%$.

  • In this paper, we design and implement of gate management system by face recognition using smart phone. We investigate various algorithms for face recognition on smart phones. First step in any face recognition system is face detection. We investigated algorithms like color segmentation, template matching etc. for face detection, and Eigen & Fisher face for face recognition. The algorithms have been first profiled in MATLAB and then implemented on the Android phone. While implementing the algorithms, we made a tradeoff between accuracy and computational complexity of the algorithm mainly because we are implementing the face recognition system on a smart phone with limited hardware capabilities.

  • In this paper, an eye tracking method is presented by using on iterated spatial moment adapting weighted gray level that can accurately detect and track user's eyes under the complicated background. The region of face is detected by using Haar-like feature before extracting region of eyes to minimize an region of interest from the input picture of CCD camera. And the region of eyes is detected by using eigeneye based on the eigenface of Principal component analysis. Also, feature points of eyes are detected from darkest part in the region of eyes. The tracking of eyes is achieved correctly by using iterated spatial moment adapting weighted gray level.

  • In this paper, we propose a robust face recognition technique based on the principle of eigenfaces. The traditional eigenface recognition (EFR) method works quite well when the input test patterns are cropped fares. However, when confronted with recognizing faces embedded in arbitrary backgrounds, the EFR method fails to discriminate effectively between faces and background patterns, giving rise to many false alarms. In order to improve robustness in the presence of background, we argue in favor of loaming the distribution of background patterns. A background space is constructed from the background patterns and this space together with the face space is used for recognizing faces. The proposed method outperforms the traditional EFR technique and gives very good results even on complicated scenes.

  • In this paper, we propose a face recognition method using modified 2-D PCA. While the previous PCA method computes the covariance matrix by using one dimensional vectors, the 2-D PCA method computes the covariance matrix by directly using direct two dimensional image, and extracts the feature vectors by solving eigenvalue problem. The proposed method recognizes the faces by applying the modified 2-D PCA to face images and it gets linear transformation matrix using two covariance matrices. The experimental results indicates that the proposed method improved about $1\%$ and achieved more stability in recognition rate than conventional 2-D PCA.

  • Though authentication using biometric techniques has conveniences for people, security problems like the leakage of personal bio-information would be serious. Even if cancelable biometric is a good solution for the problems, only a few biometric authentication scheme with cancelable feature has been published. In this paper, we suggest a face authentication scheme with two security factors: password and face image. Using matching algorithm in the permuted domain, our scheme is designed to be cancelable in the sense that templates that is composed of permutation and weight vector can be changed freely.

  • As the security system using facial recognition, the recognition performance depends on the environments (e. g. face expression, hair style, age and make-up etc.) For the revision of easily changeable environment, it's generally used to set up the threshold, replace the face image which covers the threshold into images already registered, and update the face images additionally. However, this usage has the weakness of inaccuracy matching results or can easily active by analogous face images. So, we propose the genetic algorithm which absorbs greatly the facial similarity degree and the recognition target variety, and has excellence studying capacity to avoid registering inaccuracy. We experimented variable and similar face images (each 30 face images per one, total 300 images) and performed inherent face images based on ingredient analysis as face recognition technique. The proposed method resulted in not only the recognition improvement of a dominant gene but also decreasing the reaction rate to a recessive gene.

  • Facial expression, which changes face geometry, usually has an adverse effect on the performance of a face recognition system. To improve the face recognition rate, we propose a normalization method of facial expression to diminish the difference of facial expression between probe and gallery faces. Two approaches are used to facial expression modeling and normalization from single still images using a generic facial muscle model without the need of large image databases. The first approach estimates the geometry parameters of linear muscle models to obtain a biologically inspired model of the facial expression which may be changed intuitively afterwards. The second approach uses RBF(Radial Basis Function) based interpolation and warping to normalize the facial muscle model as unexpressed face according to the given expression. As a preprocessing stage for face recognition, these approach could achieve significantly higher recognition rates than in the un-normalized case based on the eigenface approach, local binary patterns and a grey-scale correlation measure.
