  • In order to obtain the basic information for seedling production of the scallop, Patinopecten yessoensis, the egg development and larva growth were investigated at different conditions such as water temperature, salinity and phytoplankton. Eggs were demersal isolated eggs, which averaged 77.3${\pm}$2.7$\mu\textrm{m}$ in diameter after spawning. The fertilized eggs developed to D-shaped larva of shell length 117.5${\pm}$3.8$\mu\textrm{m}$ after 60 hours at 15$^{\circ}C$. The range of water temperature and salinity during egg development were 10-20$^{\circ}C$ and 28-34 ppt, respectively. The time of egg development was shorter with higher water temperature. After 10 days of spawning, D-shaped larva reached 160 $\mu\textrm{m}$ in shell length, and after 25 days became full-grown larva 250 $\mu\textrm{m}$ in shell length, in which could be observed eye spots. The relative growth formula between shell length (SL) and shell height (SH) was SH = 1.0425SL-27.731 (r$^2$= 0.9749) during the entire larva period. In regard to water temperature, growth and survival rates of larvae were good at 16$^{\circ}C$. Lower growth and survival rates were observed at 12$^{\circ}C$ and 20$^{\circ}C$ than that at 16$^{\circ}C$. When larvae were fed mixed phytoplankters, such as isochrysis galbana, Pavlova lutheri and Chaetoceros calcitrans, their growth and survival rates were the highest among groups.

  • In order to study the embryonic development and hatching of wild long shanny, Stichaeus grigorjewi, were caught with the gill nets in the East Sea of Korea, and stocked at indoor tanks to induce natural spawning in February 25, 1994 and February 16 to 24, 1995. They were already matured when stocked, and average body length (50.66 cm) and body weight (1,192.74 g) of 57 females and average body length (48.62 cm) and body weight (612.58g) of 43 males were recorded. Before stocking, they were inserted with identification tags(ID tags) in the dorsal muscle, and spawning was traced by the portable reader (Destron/lDl Ltd.) Forty females among 57 spawned successfully in the average of 4 days after stocking. Females spawned almost all eggs contained in the ovaries at one time in the form of an egg mass and averaging 227,200 eggs Per egg mass. The egg mass was oval in shape, translucent milky in color, 20.32cm long axis and 14.57cm short axis in size, and 803.7g in weight. Male parents guarded their egg masses and circulated water with the tail part of the body. Fertilized egg was spherical in shape, and their average diameter was 1.54 mm. Each egg had a containing single oil globule, and it's average diameter was 0.37 mm. The average water temperature was $13.2^{\circ}C$ and incubation times after fertilization were 5 hours 25 minutes up to 2-cell stage, 13 hours up to morula stage, and 66 hours 35 minutes up to embryo formation stage. Hatching rate was approximately 10 percent in 368 hours 50 minutes after fertilization, and approxionateoly 90 percent of eggs were hatched in 425 hours 30 minutes after fertilization.

  • The present paper deals with seasonal variation of ovary weight, number of eggs spawned and carapace width (CW) of Orithyia sinica (Calappidae, Brachyura) based on the samples monthly collected from May to November 1981. Ovary weight of the prematured crabs (CW, 50 mm) was less than 0.5g. Biological minimum size of the female was approximately 55 mm in carapace width. Ovary weight was 0.01-0.5g in the premature stage, 3.0-15.9g in the virgin stage, and 0.2-1.5g in the ovigerous stage. Number of eggs spawned depended on the size of the females, and it ranged from $240{\times}10^2\;to\;1073{\times}10^2(mean\;ca.542{\times}10^2)$. The diameter of eggs spawned was in the range of 547-913 ${\mu}m(mean ca.712{\mu}m).$

  • Gonadal development, fertilization and egg development in the maternal body and reproductive cycle of ovoviviparous rockfish, Sebastes inermis, were investigated histologically. Gonadosomatic index(GSI) of male and female were increased from September and reached maximum values in December. In the male, GSI decreased from January, but in the female maintained high values till February and decreased from March. Hepatosomatic index(HSI) was related to GSI conversely. In both sex, HSI increased from February and reached maximum in August as the gonad were degenerating and resting, and began to decrease from September as gonad were glowing. This ovoviviparous rockfish copulates in December. Fertilization with sperms maintained between ovulated oocytes in the ovary occurs in January mainly. Egg development in the ovarian cavity and discharging of hatched preiarva occurs from January to February. The reproductive cycle includes the successive stages: Growing(September), Mature (October-November), Ripe and Fertilization(Decembr-Janua), Egg development and Discharging of hatched larva(January-February), Degeneration and Resting(February-August). According to the frequency distribution of egg diameter and histological observation, the ovoviviparous rockfish discharged the prelarva at a time in a spawning season. The sexual maturation is first attained at 2 ages. All females and males reaches first maturity at body length of 17.1cm and 15.1cm respectively. The mean number of the embryos increased with the increase of the total length of female.

  • In order to obtain the basic information for seedling production of surf clam, Spisula sachalinensis, spawning induction and egg development were investigated. $NH_4OH$ addition and serotonin injection could induce the spawning in surf clam. Water temperature rising, sperm suspension immersion, UV-ray irradiated seawater and $H_2O_2$ addition less affected on induction of spawning than $NH_4OH$ and serotonin did. On the other hand, males were more sensitive to the treatments than females. The response time to initial spawning in the case of $NH_4OH$ addition was $3\~4$ hours. However in the case of serotonin injection, it was within 5 minutes. The number of eggs released by $NH_4OH$ addition were significantly more than those released by serotonin injection. The serotonin injection induced higher rates of germinal vesicle breakdown than the $NH_4OH$ addition. Fertilizing and hatching rates of the eggs also were the similar results. Eggs of surf clam were demersal isolated eggs and averaging $65.2{\pm}±1.8\;{\mu}m$ in diameter after spawning. Optimum range of water temperature for the development of egg was $15\~20^{\circ}C$, The required time for development of D-shaped larvae was 42 hours at $15^{\circ}C$ and 27 hours at $20^{\circ}C$, respectively.

  • From January 1997 to May, the red marbled rockfish, Sebastiscus tertius (Barsukov et Chen) was reared in the laboratory, and observed the morphological characteristies of egg and development of larvae and juveniles. The egg is spherical in shape colorless and transparent, measuring 0.72~0.80mm in diameter (mean 0.75mm, n=50). The naturally bearing larvae were 3.79~3.97mm in total length with 7~8+15~16=22~24 myomeres, and mouth and anus were open. Melanophores were present on the yolk of the larva and ventral margins of the tail. The 1~2 days after bearing larvae measured 3.90~4.13mm in total length, and transformed to postlarval stage, and yolk sac were completely resorbed. On the lower jaw melanophores were present. Total length of the larvae was 4.23~4.60mm in total length (11 days after bearing), number of elongated pectoral fin rays was 9~10, and melanophores distributed on the top of head, around the intestine tube, ventral margins of the tail and on the pectoral fin. In 21 days after bearing, the larva were 5.83~7.10mm in total length, and the caudal notochord flex $45^{\circ}$. Individuals of 9.80~12.36mm in total length (33 days after bearing) are regarded to have reached to the juvenile stage with all the fins were developed.

  • Egg development and early life history of the endangered species, Gobiobotia naktongensis were investigated to provide basic information regarding biological characteristics and restoration. Eggs were obtained from the females with Ovaprim (0.5 mL/kg) injecting and then fertilized using the dry method in the laboratory. Number of spawned eggs were $1,015{\pm}199$. Spawned eggs were strongly adhesive, opaque and grayish and measured $0.74{\pm}0.08mm$ (mean${\pm}$SD) in diameter. Fertilized egg size continuously increase until $2.94{\pm}0.10mm$ for 9 h 30 min at $23^{\circ}C$. Fertilized eggs hatched 26 h after fertilization, and newly hatched larvae an average were $3.4{\pm}0.07mm$(TL). The yolk sacs of the larvae were of most absorbed of 3 days after hatching and $4.4{\pm}0.1mm$ (TL). About at 13 days after hatching, they became to juvenile stage and reached $16.8{\pm}0.50mm$ (TL). At 80 days after hatching, the band patterns and external form of juveniles were similar to those of adults, and they averaged $27.7{\pm}2.32mm$(TL).
