  • The purpose of this study was to provide a convergence suggestion of health care and social welfare services by empirically analyzing the effects of chronic diseases and quality of life on subjective health cognition in single-household women aged 60 or over. This study was based on the 2016-2019 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, and 1,111 women who had been divorced or bereaved in single-household aged 60 or over were selected. As a result, it was arthritis that showed the largest average difference in subjective health cognition according to the prevalence of chronic diseases. And in the multiple regression analysis that was controlled for demographic characteristics, chronic disease had a negative (-) effect on subjective health cognition, and quality of life had a positive (+) effect on subjective health cognition. The negative (-) factor that had the greatest effect on subjective health cognition was diabetes(-0.084) among chronic diseases, and the positive (+) factor was mobility(+0.173) among the quality of life. Therefore, it suggests that health care services for chronic diseases should be strengthened in order to improve the subjective health cognition of single-person households over 60 years old, and social welfare policies to improve the quality of life should be considered together in a convergence.

  • Objective: Pork belly is considered as the most commercially important and preferable primal cut by consumers worldwide. Thus, this study was conducted to determine the effects of fat levels on the meat quality characteristics of pork bellies. Methods: Seventy-eight growing-finishing pigs collected from different commercial pig farms were slaughtered and used in the present study. After slaughter 24 h, bellies were fabricated according to the Korean Pork Cutting Specification, and immediately sampled for analysis of their fat content. Based on the fat levels, the bellies were segregated into three different groups: low fat (LF, fat ≤20%, n = 15), medium fat (MF, fat 21% to 30%, n = 30), and high fat (HF, fat ≥31%, n = 33). The bellies were then analyzed for meat quality traits, fatty acids, flavor compounds and eating quality properties. Results: The HF group had lower moisture and cooking loss levels compared to the other groups (p<0.05). The LF group presented higher proportions of polyunsaturated fatty acids compared to the other groups (p<0.05). The LF group showed higher amounts of the Maillard reaction-derived flavor compounds (e.g., 2,5-dimethyl pyrazine, 2-ethyl-3,5-dimethyl, and 4-methylthiazole) associated with meaty and roasty flavors whereas, the HF group showed higher amounts of oleic acid- derived compounds (e.g., nonanal and octanal) associated with the fatty and oily flavors. Interestingly, significantly higher scores for all the eating quality attributes (flavor, juiciness, tenderness, and overall acceptance) were found in the HF group compared to those in the LF or MF group (p<0.05). Conclusion: The high-fat bellies (fat ≥31%) had a better technological quality and eating quality compared to the low-fat bellies (fat ≤20%). Thus, increasing the fat content may improve the technological quality and eating quality traits of pork bellies, however, this increase may also result in more trimmed loss due to excessively deposited body fat.

  • In this study, the study model and hypotheses were established by theoretical review to understand the impacts of servicescapes on relational benefits and revisit intention in the subjects of users in the franchise coffee shops. Based on the previous studies, the servicescape was classified with three elements including facility attractiveness, service attractiveness, and cleanness, and the analysis results are as follows. First, facility attractiveness(H1-1) and service attractiveness(H1-2) among servicescapes of coffee shops showed the significant impact on relational benefits, adopting Hypothesis 1-1 and H 1-2. On the other hand, cleanness among the servicescapes did not show any impact on relational benefits. Second, hypothesis 2 that relational benefits will significantly affect the revisit intention, positively was adopted. This means revisit potential will be enhanced more as the workers generate the comfort with special services and informal conversation more. It implicates that trust on the shops, psychological comfort, and consideration to the customers are important factors to induce their revisit. Finally, facility attractiveness and service attractiveness among servicescapes showed to affect he revisit intention significantly, while cleanness did not show that, partially adopting hypothesis 3.

  • GEO-KOMPSAT-2A (GK2A) AMI (Advanced Meteorological Imager) Best Detector Select (BDS) map is pre-determined and uploaded before the satellite launch. After the launch, there is some possibility of a detector performance change driven by an abrupt temperature variation and thus the status of BDS map needs to be evaluated and updated if necessary. To investigate performance of entire elements of the detectors, AMI BDS analyses were conducted based on a technical note provided from the AMI vendor (L3HARRIS). The concept of the BDS analysis is to investigate the stability of signals from detectors while they are staring at targets (deep space and internal calibration target). For this purpose, Long Time Series (LTS) and Output Voltage vs. Bias Voltage (V-V) methods are used. The LTS for 30 secs and the V-V for two secs are spanned respectively for looking at the targets to compute noise components of detectors. To get the necessary data sets, these activities were conducted during the In-Orbit Test (IOT) period since a normal operation of AMI is stopped and special mission plans are commanded. With collected data sets during the GK2A IOT, AMI BDS map was intensively examined. It was found that about 1% of entire detector elements, which were evaluated at the ground test, showed characteristic changes and those degraded elements are replaced by alternative best ones. The stripping effects on AMI raw images due to the BDS problem were clearly removed when the new BDS map was applied.

  • In this study aviation authority officials were classified into four cultural groups according to culture theory, and then questioned to determine the effects of cultural bias on their social acceptance of a new air traffic flow management system. Based on previous studies, cultural biases were categorized as egalitarianistic, individualistic, fatalistic, and hierarchical, and social acceptances were considered to be influenced by four variables, that is, perceptions of usefulness, work attitude, intention to use, and behavior (job absorption). Empirical analysis showed that hierarchy had a significant positive effect on social acceptance, and egalitarianism was found to have a significant positive effect on social acceptance with 95% credibility. We propose the organizational culture of Korean government be changed to accept the diverse opinions of government officials during the implementation phase of the new system recommended by ICAO.

  • The Korean economy have experienced the remarkable decreases in factor prices such as bond yields, real wage since the IMF foreign exchange crisis. This paper investigates the effects of the price changes in the factor markets on determining the level and cyclicality of industrial markups in the manufacturing industry. For this purpose, we construct a markup equation in the small open economy based on the production function including foreign intermediate goods and assuming constant returns to scale technology and AR(1) process of technological coefficient. Empirical results are summarized as the followings. The empirical results shows that the increased markups after the IMF crisis can be explained by the price decreases in the factor markets which result in lowering marginal costs. And we also observed counter cyclicality of markup, labor share and interest rates while real wages, technical coefficients, and production price index proved to be pro-cyclical. In conclusion, the price changes in factor market have contributed to the stickiness in markup fluctuation in the manufacturing industry.

  • This study examined the effect of the perception of age-friendly environment on perceived social bonding. In particular, this study focused on the mediating effects of perception of age-integration between perception of age-friendly environment and perceived social bonding. The data were analyzed using the '2017 Ages Integration Survey' conducted by the Korea Research Foundation(SSK). A total of 997 adults from 20 to 86 ears of age were participated in this study. The perception of age-friendly environment was measured using the age-friendly city guidelines set out by WHO and perception of age-integration was measured using questions that asked about age flexibility and age diversity. Also, the social capital scale was used to measure perception of social bonding. In order to increase the reliability of the analysis results, age, gender, educational achievement and residential area were controlled. Structural Equation Modeling approach was employed to answer the research questions. The results are following. First, perception of age-friendly environment was significantly associated with perceived social bonding in a positive direction, controlling for age, gender, educational achievement and residential area. Second, perception of age-integration partially mediated the relationship between perception age-friendly environment and perceived social bonding controlling for covariates. Based on these findings, this study proposes political and practical intervention strategies to promote age-friendly environment and age-integration.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the factors influencing of separation and the time of separation for middle and old aged self-employed workers. The cox proportional hazards model was used in the first survey of KLoSA, 684 persons who were over 40 years old in 2006, using data up to the 5th period of 2014. The main findings of this study are as follows. First, the average duration of job for middle and old aged self-employed workers in 2005 was 15.5years. Of the total 684 workers, 214(31.3%) person was found to have lost their job during survey period. Second, gender, age at start up, and education level have significant effects on job separation of them. When women, when they were older at start up, when they were graduate the university or higher, increased their risk of leaving their businesses. Third, in the characteristic of their work, the type of job and job satisfaction were found to affect to job desertion. When people are engaged in accommodation and food business rather than agriculture and forestry fishery, when the satisfaction of the work is lower, the risk was high. Based on these conlusions, the following implications are suggested. First, it is necessary to establish a support strategy for female middle-aged and old self-employed and older workers who start their own business after their 60s. Second, it is necessary to support them to enter into various fields by utilizing their own aptitude and experience rather than establishing them in industries with low entry barriers. Third, it is necessary to develop policies to help improve job satisfaction in the working environment. In particular, it is necessary to ensure that high educated self-employed workers are satisfied with various compensations by self-employed.

  • Sleep quality among university students is important, especially for their physical and psychosocial wellbeing. This study was conducted to investigate the level of smartphone addiction and stress among university students, and to estimate the effects of those variables on sleep quality. Data were collected from August 1st to 14th, 2018 using an online self-report survey to measure demographics including daily activity and indulgence foods, smartphone addiction, perceived stress scale, and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (Korean version). Collected data were analyzed by independent t-tests, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple regression. The results showed that smartphone addiction, stress, and sleep quality had positive correlation in each relation. Multiple regression analysis showed that the predictors of sleep quality were smartphone addiction (${\beta}=0.041$, p=.001) and stress level (${\beta}=0.177$, p=.001), and the regression equation explained 24.9% of sleep quality. Therefore, higher levels of smartphone addiction and stress were associated with lower sleep quality. Based on these results, it is necessary to reduce unnecessary use of smartphone usage, as well as to develop and apply programs for university students to improve their sleep quality.
