  • The paper analyzes the effects of Korean venture businesses' external collaborations on their innovation performances, according to their collaboration partners and collaboration activities. The results show that the collaborations between Korean venture businesses and research institutions, and those between venture businesses and other venture businesses have significant positive effects on venture businesses' innovation performances, in terms of the numbers of the intellectual property rights, while the collaborations between venture businesses and large companies have significant positive effects on medium-sized venture businesses only. In addition, collaborative research and development, and technology transfer from big companies to venture businesses have given significant positive effects on venture businesses' innovation performances, while collaborative employee training and collaborative marketing have given significant negative effects on venture businesses' innovation performances. Furthermore, collaborations between large companies and their subcontracting venture businesses have shown even more significant effects on venture businesses' performances. The results show that the effectiveness of external collaborations of Korean venture businesses depends on collaboration partners, types of collaboration activities, and the size of collaborating venture businesses, implying that government programs for encouraging venture businesses to collaborate with external institutions should be carefully chosen for their innovation performance improvement.

  • The present study investigated the effects of children's cognitive styles on their interpersonal problem solving performances. It examined closely whether children's interpersonal problem solving performances differed depending on their individual cognitive styles such as field independence-field dependence and reflection-impulse cognitive styles. It also examined whether children's interpersonal problem solving performances differed depending on the subjects children interacted with. The subjects were 80 5-and 6-year-old children from three child care centers. Collected data were analyzed with SPSS Win 10.0 and processed statistically using average, standard deviation, and repeated measures design. Children's interpersonal problem solving performances showed differed according to the subjects they interacted with. Children showed better interpersonal problem solving performances with their peers than with adults like teachers or parents. There was a significant positive correlation between children's field independence-field dependence cognitive styles and interpersonal problem solving performances. That is, the more independent children were, the higher their interpersonal problem solving performances were. In addition, there was a partially negative correlation between children's reflection-impulse cognitive styles and interpersonal problem solving performances. The more impulsive children were, the lower the problem solving performances were.

  • An oxide fuel small size core (1200 MWt) was analyzed in comparison with a large size core (3600 MWt) in order to evaluate the size effects on transient safety performances of liquid-metal reactors (LMRs). in the first part of the study, main static safety parameters (i.e., Doppler coefficient, sodium void effect, etc.) of the two cores were characterized, and the second part of the study was focused on the dynamic behavior of the cores in two representative transient events: the unprotected loss-of-flow(ULOF) and the unprotected transient overpower (UTOP). Margins to fuel molting and sodium boiling have been evaluated for these representative transients. Results show that the small core has a generally better or equivalent level of safety performances during these events.

  • A theoretical model was developed to evaluate the effects of soil and airflow characteristics on the soil-air heat exchanger performances. The model, which includes three-dimensional transient energy and mass equilibrium-equation, was solved by using a computer program that uses Finite Difference Methods and Gauss-Seidel iteration computation. Energy gains, heat exchange efficiencies, and outlet air temperature are presented including the effects of soil moisture content, soil conductivity, soil thermal diffusivity, and soil initial temperature. Also, data related to the effects of airflow rate and inlet air temperature on the thermal performance of the system are presented. The results indicated that energy gains depend on soil conductivity, soil thermal diffusivity, and soil initial temperature. Heat exchange efficiencies relied on air mass flow rate and soil moisture content.
