Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of music intervention upon lighting on stress. Method : The participants 60 college students, were divided three groups. Two groups were apply each music and bright lighting(bright lighting groups) and music and dark lighting(dark lighting groups) during 13minutes at Snozelen and the other group was control group. Each groups were assessed stress resistance, activity of parasympathetic nerve, activity of sympathetic nerve, balance of ANS, physical arousal by EKG of CANS 3000, at before and after other each intervention. The analyses were performed using version of SPSS 17. Result : The change rate of bright lighting group was showed statistically significant decrease in stress resistance compared to control group. And the change rate of dark lighting group was showed statistically significant decrease in resistance stress, activity of parasympathetic nerve, and balance of ANS compared to control group and statistically significant increase in stress resistance and activity of parasympathetic nerve compared to bright lighting group. Conclusion : The results of this study indicate that music intervention on dark lighting is more effective on decrease of stress than application of bright lighting and general lighting.
Purpose: This study has tried to find out the effects of music therapy on anxiety of surgery patients during operation under regional anesthesia. In order to find out the effects, this research design was used nonequivalent control group non-synchronized design. Method: The subjects were the sixty inpatients under regional anesthesia in K hospital. They were assigned to two groups, thirty to the experimental group and thirty to control group. The data were collected using the Visual Analogue Scale(VAS) for State Anxiety and vital sign. The Experimental group received favorite music of the 4 different genre. The control group were inserted ear plug during operation. Data were analyzed by $X^2$-test, T-test, ANOVA and Repeated Measured ANOVA of the SPSS WIN (12.0) version program. Results: 1) Hypothesis 1: The hypothesis "that the figure for state anxiety of the experimental group provided with music therapy would be lower than that of the control group" was confirmed(F=0.27, P=0.01). 2) Hypothesis 2 : Three subordinating hypotheses were established in order to verify the hypothesis "that the figures for vital sings of the experimental group provided with such as music therapy would be lower than those of the control group." were rejected. Conclusion: Music therapy can be regarded as an effective nursing intervention that relieves operative anxiety of surgical patients under regional anesthesia.
Purpose: The purpose of this review was to assess the quality and to evaluate the effectiveness of music interventions in reducing agitation in older adults with dementia. Methods: Randomized controlled studies and randomized crossover studies were identified by searching MEDLINE, EMBASE, CINAHL, PsycINFO, AGELINE, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Korea Med, Kmbase, RISS, National Assembly Digital Library, KISS, and RICH. Two reviewers independently retrieved articles, extracted data, and assessed the quality of studies. Results: In total, 10 studies were selected from 1095 unique citations. All included studies were conducted in long term care settings. Overall, risk of bias for included studies was low to moderate. The weighted average effect size across studies was -0.39 (95%CI [-0.69, -0.10], p=.009, $I^2=63%$). Music therapy was effective to reduce agitation of the older adults with dementia. Conclusion: Music intervention can be an effective non-pharmacological intervention for the reduction of agitation in dementia. Future studies need to use rigorous research method and to provide description of research methods in greater detail. In addition, future studies are required to explore the effects of music therapy according to severity of agitation and dementia.
Purpose - Pleasing ambient colors, music, scent, layout and salespeople are hypothesized to positively impact shoppers' perceptions about the atmosphere of a store. Few studies on the interactive effect of these atmospheric factors have earlier been undertaken. This paper looks at the interactive effect of color on the other predictor variables. Research design, data, and methodology - This study is from field locations in the shopping malls located in Delhi NCR. A descriptive study was undertaken to decipher the interactive effect of color with music, scent, layout and salespeople. Moderation of color on music, scent, layout and salespeople is regressed on store atmospherics. The authors investigate the effects of color, light, music, scent, layout and salespeople on store atmospherics in a retail context. They also study the interactive effect of color with predictor variables which significantly influence the perception of store atmospherics. Results - The paper reveals that music, scent, layout and salespeople influence customer's perception about store atmospherics. The interactive effect of color with scent, layout and sales people influence customer's perception about store atmospherics significantly. It does not moderate with layout and music. Conclusions - Store color is important in predicting store atmospherics. Care is needed to ensure that the effects of different environmental stimuli match.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of music therapy on the anxiety and distress in patients taking thoracentesis. Methods: The quasi-experimental design was used with a nonequivalent control group pre-post test time series. Participatns were divided into the experimental (n=20) or control group (n=20). Music therapy was given to the experimental group with a CD that was made by the investigator by themes. The research tools included the VAS Anxiety Inventory, and the Subjective and Objective Distress Inventory. Data were analyzed using SPSS 14.0 program by ${\chi}^2$-test and t-test. Results: There were statistically significant differences in state (VAS) anxiety and subjective distress between two groups. Conclusion: The music therapy was effective in reducing the anxiety and subjective distress of patients taking thoracentesis. In the future, music therapy will be useful in the field of nursing as a nursing intervention to alleviate stress and enhance well-being.
Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the effects of group music therapy on psychiatric symptoms and interpersonal relationship in patient with schizophrenia. Methods: This was a quasi-experimental study with nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design. The subjects were 63 patients with schizophrenia at S psychiatric sanatorium in D city. Thirty two patients were assigned to experimental group and thirty one patients were assigned to control group. Data were collected from August 4 to September 25, 2011. The group music therapy was conducted for 60 minutes, 8 times per week for 4 weeks. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, $x^2$ test and t-test with SPSS/WIN 19.0 version. Results: Experimental group receiving group music therapy showed significant improvements of psychiatric symptoms and interpersonal relationship. Conclusion: The study results indicate that group music therapy is an effective intervention program in improving psychiatric symptoms and interpersonal relationship of patients with schizophrenia.
Purpose: Music therapy helps alleviate anxiety, depression, and pain for cancer patients, contributing to stress relief. With such advantages, music therapy is applied across a broad spectrum of treatment areas, including mental disorders, developmental disabilities, and conditions affecting the elderly. It has been shown to enhance the quality of life for terminally ill cancer patients. Recent research has revealed its positive effects in boosting immune function and resilience. In light of these findings, the author conducted a study to investigate patient satisfaction with music listening. Materials and Methods: First, a survey was conducted with 30 individuals to inquire about the perceived necessity of listening to music in a waiting area. Next, participants were asked whether listening to music could contribute to psychological stability. Finally, preferences for music genres and satisfaction with music listening were assessed with a sample of 20 individuals. Results: In terms of the perceived necessity of listening to music in the waiting area, 28 out of 30 individuals, or 93%, expressed agreement. Regarding the belief that music listening could contribute to psychological stability, 28 out of 30 individuals, or 93%, believed that it would indeed help with stability. When it comes to preferred music genres, 4 individuals (13%) favored classical music, 2 individuals (6%) preferred traditional Korean music, 2 individuals (6%) enjoyed trot music, and 20 individuals (66%) had no specific genre preference. As for music listening satisfaction, 17 out of 20 individuals, or 85%, reported being satisfied. Conclusion: When patients visit the hospital, stress can increase due to concerns about their medical conditions. To address this, providing a variety of music genres at the hospital has been effective in reducing patient stress and promoting psychological stability.
The purpose of this study was to elucidate the effects of music therapy on the preoperative anxiety of surgerial patients. The research design was a nonequivalent control, group non-synch-ronized design. The data were collected during the period from January 4 to March 17, 1999 at C-University hospital in Seoul. The subjects were sixty patients who had surgery under general anesthesia and had undergone laparotomy. They were assigned to two groups, thirty to the experimental group and thirty to the control group. They also did not have any complication, were alert enough to be interviewed and agreed willingly to participate in this study. The tool of Trait Anxiety Inventory was used to measure trait-anxiety on all patients and the Visual Analogue Scale(VAS) was used to measure state-anxiety on all patients. And systolic and diastolic blood pressure, pulse rate, and blood sugar levels were collected a the day before surgery and the preoperative period. The experimental group received music therapy with self-selected music tapes after choosing from a Music Preference Questionnaire, while the control group didn't receive music therapy. Data were analyzed by ${\chi}^2$-test, t-test, paired t-test. The results of this study are summarized as follows: 1. The preoperative state anxiety of the experimental group was re-markably lower than that of the control group. 2. Decreasing rate in the vital signs of the experimental group was remarkably lower than that of the control group. 3. The preoperative blood sugar of the experimental group was remarkably lower than that of the control group. According to these results, Music Therapy can be regarded as an effective nursing intervention that relieves preoperative anxiety of surgical patients and helper stabilize vital signs. From this study, the following recommendations can be made: 1. In order to decrease surgical patient's preoperative anxiety, I suggest the nursing intervention should go side by side with music therapy.

This research studied the effects of music experiences on the language development of toddlers in the day care setting. Subjects were 44(23 experimental group; 21 control group) 29- to 42-month-old children. The experimental group experienced 10 weeks of music activities, including musical sense, singing, listening, playing instruments, improvisation, finger plays, movement, simple games, word-sound music games and music routines. Language development was tested by the Preschool Receptive-Expressive Language Scale(Kim et al. 2003). Significant differences were found in the receptive language development of 30- to 36-month-old and in the expressive language development of 36- to 42-month-old toddlers, respectively.
