Purpose: The pathophysiology of congenital muscular torticollis (CMT) is that the sternoclavicularmastoid (SCM) is shortened on the involved side by fibrosis, leading to an ipsilateral tilt and contralateral rotation of the face and chin. The aim of this study was to examine the effect of physical therapy and develop a mass diameter prediction model for infants with CMT. Methods: Fifty six patients were diagnosed with CMT between April 2003 and December 2008. Infants with neurological complications, and spasmodic and ocular torticollis were excluded. Physical therapy was applied to those masses in the SCM muscles of those infants after checking their physical findings and the diameter of the mass with ultrasonography. Their physical findings and mass diameter was reevaluated when their neck tilt was under $5^{\circ}$. Results: The mean age when physical therapy was started was 35 days. After a mean 90 days of treatment, the subjects showed improvement in the neck tilt. Subjects whose neck tilted above $15^{\circ}$ showed significant improvement in neck tilt decreased their mass diameter (p<0.01). Facial symmetric infants showed a shorter recovery duration than the facial asymmetric infants (p<0.05). A mass decreasing model based on the diameter of the mass, facial symmetry or not and the physical therapy start day after birth was developed by linear regression. Conclusion: Physical therapy is an effective treatment for CMT. The change in the diameter of the mass on the SCM muscles after treatment can be predicted.

In this study, experimental results of the nucleate boling of wire-wrapped tubes are provided. Both water and R-113 were boiled. Solid stainless steel wires, stranded copper wires and stranded nylon wires were tested. Solid stainless wire is effective to enhance the boiling of water. The performance is approximately the same(or slightly better at certain conditions) as that of GEWA-T tubes. For the test range of wire diameter 0.6 $mm{\le}d{\le}2.6 mm$, the optimum gap width increases as the wire diameter increases. The maximum heat transfer coefficient was obtained for the 1.0 mm diameter wire, and it is 1.6 times larger than that of the GEWA-T at the heat flux of 20 $kW/m^{2}.$ Solid stainless wire is also effective to enhance the boling of R-113 at low heat fluxes. The performance of the wire-wrapped tube approaches that of GEWA-T. At high heat fluxes, however, the enhancement decreases. The reason may be attributed to the cavity shape and the high wettability of the refrigerants. Stranded copper or nylon wire is effective to enhance the boiling of R-113. The performance is approximately the same(or slightly better) as that of GEWA-T tubes. Maximum heat transfer was obtained for the stranded nylon wire, and it is approximately 1.4 times larger than that for the GEWA-T at the heat flux of 20 $kW/m^{2}.$ The reason may be atrributed to the favorable thermal environment in the restricted regions formed by twisted wires.
The properties of contaminated soil, contaminants and elapsed time are important considering factors to in-situ soil remediation. Gabr et. al. (1996) derived the solution equation of contaminant concentration ratio as initial one ($C/C_0$) with time and spatial changes in contaminated area which are embedded with vertical drains. The contaminant concentration ratio ($C/C_0$) is analyzed with time and spatial changes as varying the effective diameter, porosity, shape factor, density of contaminated soil, temperature in ground, unit weight and viscosity of contaminants by using FLUSH1 model modified from FLUSH. Results from numerical analysis indicate that the most important factor to the in-situ soil remediation in vertical drain system is the effective diameter of contaminated soil. It also shows that the next important factors are the viscosity of contaminants, porosity of soil, shape of soil, temperature in ground, unit weight of contaminants and density of soil, in order. However, the others except the effective diameter of contaminated soil are insignificant to the soil remediation.

It is the aim of this study to investigate the influence of the factors in the sprayer nozzle for the travelling distance and to get nozzle design data in relation to the nozz1e with and without swirl plate. The factors of sprayer nozzle are composed of the spraying pressure, the helical angle of swirl plate, the helical groove depth of swirl plate, the distance of vortex chamber the slope of nozz1e cap, the curvature of nozzle cap and the hole diameter of nozz1e cap. The travelling distance and the size of sprayed particle are experimeted indoors by the factorial arrange-ment according to the 5 each level of the above factors. The results of this stupy are summarized as follows; 1. In the nozzle with swirl p1ate there were remarkable significance among factors each other, while without swirl plate were no significance. 2. The helical angle and groove depth in the nozzle with swirl plate were the highest effective factors. The effect of helical angle was very remarked in the quadratic curve with minium value. 3. The correlation betweenthe travelling distance and the sprayed particle size was no high and under 250 micron in the case with swirl plate, and there was higher correlation in the case without swirl plate. 4. The new ideal development of the swirl plate using of the most effective helical angle and groove depth will probably show the possiblities to make effective travelling distance over 8 meters and more over and to make average particle diameter under 300 micron.

The stability of a rotor-bearing system supported by swirl-controlled hybrid journal bearing with pair-type angled injection orifices is investigated for improvement of the whirl frequency ratio by allowing effective control of the tangential flow inside the bearing clearance, i.e., by achieving more freedom in controlling strength and direction of the supply tangential flow inside the bearing clearance. It is suggested that the system instability can be improved through the change of bearing dynamic characteristic parameters with the swirl control. The orifice diameter d$_0$ and recess injection angle $\alpha$ along with combinations of swirl/anti-swirl supply pressures and directions (3.0-3.0MPa, 4.0-2.0MPa, 2.0-4.0MPa) are selected for design parameters for swirl-controlled effective factors dependent on journal speeds (3000, 9000, 15000, 21000 rpm). It has been found that the orifice diameter do shows strong effects on effective maneuverability of direct-stiffness and direct damping values, while recess injection angle $\alpha$ results in substantial magnitude and direction of cross-stiffness. Specifically, recess injection parameters which are functions of angle of orifice feeding flow and recess dimensions showed very feasible effect on the stability of swirl-controlled rotor-bearing system.

Helical steel piles are being widely used in foundation for the buildings in urban areas because of their high compressive and tensile capacities. Helical steel piles have many advantages; ease installation, a vibration-free and low level of noise process, and so on. However, the most researches are about the capacity of helical steel piles under uplift condition. Therefore, this paper focuses on the capacity under compressive loading according to the soil condition. The bearing capacity of helical steel piles varies with the diameter of the helix and shaft and the bearing area of helical steel piles is not always identical with the sum of helix and shaft area due to the difference of each bearing mechanism. Therefore, the experiment with the parameters of the ratio of helix and shaft diameter and soil condition will be carried out to survey the effective helix area under a given soil condition for the bearing capacity of helical steel piles.
Many previous works have been performed to provide correlations of flame length, theoretically and experimentally. Most of these results studied were conducted in vertical turbulent flame with no coaxial air condition. The present study analyzes the flame length scaling with coaxial air. In turbulent hydrogen non-premixed jet flames with coaxial air, flame length scaling theoretically proposed so far has been related with the concept of a far-field equivalent source. At high coaxial air to fuel velocity ratio, $U_A/U_F$, however, this scaling theory has some difference with experimental flame length data. This difference is understood to be due to the fact that the theory is based on far-field notion, while the effect of coaxial air on jet flame occurs in the region near the nozzle exit. Therefore, we define effective jet density $P_{eff}$ involving the concept of near-field so that effective jet diameter can be extended to the near-field region. In this condition, we modify the correlation and compare with experimental data.

Flow condensation heat transfer coefficients (HTCs) of R22, R410, Propane (R290) were measured inside a horizontal 9 hole aluminum multi-channel flat tube. The main test section in the refrigerant loop was made of a 0.53m long multi-channel flat tube of hydraulic diameter of 1.4 mm. Refrigerant was cooled by passing cold water through an annulus surrounding the test section. Data were obtained in qualities of $0.1\~0.9$ at mass flux of $200\~400kg/m^2s$ and heat flux of $7.3\~7.7kW/m^2$ at the saturation temperature of $40^{\circ}C$. All popular heat transfer correlations in single-phase subcooled liquid flow and flow condensation originally developed for large single tubes predicted the present data of the multi channel flat tube within $25\%$ deviation when effective heat transfer area was used in determining experimental data. This suggests that there is little change in flow characteristics and patterns when the tube diameter is reduced down to 1.4 mm diameter range. Hence, a modified correlation based on the present data was proposed which could be applied to small diameter tubes with effective heat transfer area. The correlation showed a mean deviation of less than $20\%$ for all data.
Two different animal models, which differ in whether or not taking maternal genetic effect into account, for estimating genetic parameters of cashmere weight, live body weight, cashmere thickness, staple length, fiber diameter, and fiber length in Inner Mongolia White Cashmere Goat were compared via likelihood ratio test. The results indicate that maternal genetic effect has significant influence on live body weight and cashmere thickness, but no significant influence on the other traits. Using models suitable for each trait, both genetic parameters and trends were analyzed with the MTDFREML program. Heritability estimates from single trait models for cashmere weight, live body weight, cashmere thickness, staple length, fiber diameter and fiber length were found to be 0.30, 0.07, 0.21, 0.29, 0.28 and 0.21, respectively. Genetic correlation estimates from two-trait models between live body weight and all other traits (-0.06~0.07) was negligible, as were those between fiber diameter and all other traits (-0.01~0.03) except cashmere thickness (0.19). Cashmere weight and staple length had moderate to low genetic correlations with other traits (-0.24~0.39 and -0.24~0.34, respectively) except for live body weight and fiber diameter. Cashmere thickness had a strong genetic correlation with fiber length (0.81), and low genetic correlation with other traits (0.19~0.34) except live body weight. Genetic trend analysis suggests that selection for cashmere weight was very effective, which has led to the slow genetic progress of cashmere thickness and fiber length due to their genetic correlations with cashmere weight. The selection for live body weight was not effective, which was consistent with its low inheritability.
