  • In this paper, the circuit models of optical to electrical(O/E) characteristics of waveguide photodiode(WGPD) submodule are examined. Test structures of WGPD and WGPD submodule were fabricated and S21 parameter was measured to characterize the O/E conversion property. Valid circuit models were derived by RF circuit simulation and O/E characteristics were modeled to analyze the effects of model parameters on the WGPD submodule performances. Based on the results, it can be concluded that the suggested WGPD submodule model can explain the characteristics of the O/E conversion of WGPD submodule, where the parasitic components originated from ribbon bonding block crucially influence on the performance of WGPD submodule, are able to show more efficient property by making compact bonding structure. We propose an effective WGPD submodule bonding structure and it can ensure the 40Gbps operation of WGPD.

  • Lightweight aggregate is a porous material that has a lower density than natural aggregate and is a lightweight construction material. Lightweight Aggregate has a suitable purpose because it is effective in reducing the heavy unit mass in high-rise buildings. However, since lightweight aggregate has weak strength and high water absorption compared to natural aggregate, it is difficult to control the quality of concrete. Although lightweight aggregate has disadvantages such as high water absorption, it is expected that the demand for lightweight aggregate concrete will continue to use in the future because the advantage of being able to reduce the weight of concrete is greater. In this study, we conducted an experimantal study on the compressive strength property of cement matrix according to the type of lightweight aggregate.

  • A lot of R&D efforts are being concentrated on the development of high performance HTS coated conductors(CC). Unlike the HTS Bi-2223 tape, a variety of processes have been tried to fabricate CC tapes. PLD and MOD are believed to be very effective methods, and high critical currents of long length CC tape have been reported. In this study, we prepared two kinds of YBCO CCs to evaluate electromagnetic property. One is YBCO tape deposited on IBAD template by PLD and the other is AMSC's MOD CC tape Critical current (Ic) in magnetic fields, its angular dependency, and n-value were measured and analyzed. Magnetic field property of Ic was appeared to be different due the fabrication process. MOD tape showed higher in-field property, n-value of both PLD and MOD tapes exponentially decreased with magnetic field. MOD tape showed higher n-value in whole magnetic fields.

  • Due to the occasional occurrence of a localizedcorrosion such as a SCC and pitting in steam generator tubing(Alloy 600), leading to a significant economical loss, an effective repair technology is needed. For a successful electrodeposition inside a tube, many processes should be developed. Among these processes, an anode to be installed inside a tube, a degreasing condition to remove any dirt and grease, an activation condition for a surface oxide elimination, a strike layer forming condition which needs to be adhered tightly between an electroforming layer and a parent tube and a condition for an electroforming layer should be established. Through a combination of these various process condition parameters, the desired material properties can be acquired. Among these process parameters, various material properties including a mechanical property and its variation along with the height of the electrodeposit inside a tube as well as its thermal stability and SCC resistance should be assessed for an application in a plant. This work deals with the material properties of the Ni electrodeposits formed inside a tube by using the anode developed in this study such as the current efficiency, hardness, tensile property, thermal stability and SCC behavior of the electrodeposit in a 40wt% NaOH solution at $315^{\circ}C$. It was found that a variation of the material properties within the entire length of the electrodeposit was quite acceptable and the Ni electrodeposit showed an excellent SCC resistance.

  • In this work, effects of hyper-elastic rubber material properties on the indentation load-deflection curve and subindenter deformation are first examined via [mite element (FE) analyses. An optimal data acquisition spot is selected, which features maximum strain energy density and negligible frictional effect. We then contrive two normalized functions. which map an indentation load vs. deflection curve into a strain energy density vs. first invariant curve. From the strain energy density vs. first invariant curve, we can extract the rubber material properties. This new spherical indentation approach produces the rubber material properties in a manner more effective than the common uniaxial tensile/compression tests. The indentation approach successfully measures the rubber material properties and the corresponding nominal stress.strain curve with an average error less than 3%.

  • This paper proposes an effective method for optimizing the structure of functionally graded isotropic and incompressible linear elastic materials. The main emphasis is on utilizing a specialized polytopal composite finite element (PCE) technique capable of handling a broad range of materials, addressing common volumetric locking issues found in nearly incompressible substances. Additionally, it employs a continuum model for bi-directional functionally graded (BFG) material properties, amalgamating these aspects into a unified property function. This study thus provides an innovative approach that tackles diverse material challenges, accommodating various elemental shapes like triangles, quadrilaterals, and polygons across compressible and nearly incompressible material properties. The paper thoroughly details the mathematical formulations for optimizing the topology of BFG structures with various materials. Finally, it showcases the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed method through numerous numerical examples.

  • The objective of this study is to evaluate the injection performance of crack repair method in concrete structure. To improve the quality of the concrete structure caulking material was injected into the crack of building that were planned to be demolished and injection properties of various repair method were compared and assessed according to type of crack. Results from the test showed that when cracks and injection port were integrated and the injection port wasn't blocked repair material was able to be injected even below around 40㎏/㎠ pressure. Moreover, effective pressure each type of packer showed wide range varying from 200-400㎏/㎠. As for drill method for injection port, core drill method has shown to be more effective compared to the air pump method

  • Structural analysis for materials containing regularly spaced in-homogeneities is usually executed by using averaged material properties. For the homogenization process, a unit cell is defined and loaded somehow, and its response is investigated to evaluate the properties. The imposed loading conditions should accord to the behavior of unit cell immersed in the macroscopic structure in order to guarantee the accuracy of the effective properties. Each unit cell shows periodic variation of strain if the material is loaded uniformly, and in this study, direct implementation of this characteristic behavior is attempted on FE models of unit cell. Conventional finite element analysis tool can be used without any modification, and the boundary of unit cell is constrained in a way that the periodicity is satisfied. The proposed method is applicable to skew arrayed in-homogeneity problems. The flexibility matrix relating tonsorial stress and strain components in skewed rectilinear coordinate system is transformed so that the required engineering constants can be evaluated. Effective properties are computed for the materials with square and skew arrayed circular holes, and its accuracy is examined.

  • Mineral hydrate is a new insulation material that compensates for the defects of existing materials. Mineral hydrate is made of inorganic ingredients; therefore, it is nonflammable. The porous structure of mineral hydrate makes the material lightweight and insulating. Mineral hydrate insulation and similar products have been studied and manufactured in Korea and abroad. However, these insulation materials need to improve in terms of strength. In this study, basalt fiber was used to enhance the strength. In order to observe the property changes, compressive strength, heat conductivity, and specific gravity were measured and XRD pattern analysis was performed. These tests confirmed that basalt fiber was effective at improving the strength and lowering the heat conductivity of mineral hydrate insulation.

  • After pressurized impregnation treatment, which has been proposed as an effective conservation method for stone cultural property, was executed with methyl metacrylate (MMA), MMA-butyl acrylate (PMB73) mixture and MMA-vinyl trimethoxy silane (PMV5) co-monomer mixture, the physical-chemical properties on the sand stone and the granite impregnated were evaluated. Compared to the case of granite, the impregnation ratios of sand stone showed larger values in the range of 3.2 to 3.7 wt% and these were increased up to 32% when the decompression process was applied to autoclave. The physical properties of sand stone such as anti-moisture property, flexural strength, impact property and ultrasonic velocity were also higher values than those of granite, which can be interpreted by high impregnation ratio resulted in many void within sand stone. The impact failure energy was 1.22 J for PMMA, 1.84 J for PMB73, and 2.8 J for PMV5, respectively. Since the inorganic affinity of treatment agent is more effective than the molecular structure of acrylic agent, PMV5 improved inorganic property indicates the optimum impact property.
