A theoretical method to predict the interfacial stresses in the adhesive layer of reinforced concrete beams strengthened with porous FRP plate is presented in this paper. The effect due to porosity is incorporated utilizing a new modified rule of mixture covering the porosity phases. The adherend shear deformations have been included in the present theoretical analyses by assuming a linear shear stress through the thickness of the adherends. Remarkable effect of the porosity has been noted in the results. Indeed, the resulting interfacial stresses concentrations are considerably smaller than those obtained by other models which neglect the porosity effect. It was found that the interfacial stresses are highly concentrated at the end of the FRP plate, the minimization of the latter can be achieved by using porous FRP plate in particular at the end. It is also shown that the interfacial stresses of the RC beam increase with volume fraction of fibers, but decrease with the thickness of the adhesive layer.
Air-water countercurrent flow limitation at perforated plates with four holes was investigated in a vertical tank to see the effects of the plate thickness, the number of hole, and the diameter of the hole on the onset of CCFL. The thickness of plates was 1 cm and 4 cm, with a relatively large hole diameter of 5 cm. The collapsed water level formed on the perforated plate and its distribution in the upper plenum were measured. The gas flow rate in the multi-hole plate is relatively higher than one in the single tube because some of holes in the multi-hole plate provide a flow path fur liquid with less air-liquid resistance than in the single tube. The onset of CCFL occurred at nearly the same air flow rate regardless of the plate thickness. The negligible effect of the plate thickness on CCFL means that the flooding is initiated at the top of the plate rather than at its bottom. It turns out that $j_k$ and $K_k$ better fit the data than $H_k$ when hole diameter is greater than 2.86 cm. In our experimental ranges, the collapsed water levels at the onset of CCFL ranged from 7.5 cm to 10.5 cm. There was no three dimensional distribution of water level before and after the onset of CCFL.

Variable thickness plates are commonly encountered in the majority of mechanical/structural components of industrial applications. And, as a result of the unsymmetry of the structure or the load and the anisoptropy of the materials, the cracks in engineering structures are generally subjected to combined stresses. In spite of considerable practical interest, however, a few fracture mechanics study on combined mode crack in a variable thickness plate have carried out. In this respect, combined mode 1/3 stress intensity factors $K_{1}$ and $K_{3}$ at the crack tip for a variable thickness plate were obtained by 3-dimensional finite element analysis. Variable thickness plates containing a central slant crack were chosen. the parameters used in this study were dimensionless crack length .lambda. crack slant angle .alpha, thickness ratio .betha. and width ratio .omega. Stress intensity factors were calculated by crack opening displacement(COD) and crack tearing displacement(CTD) method proposed by Ingraffea and Manu. The effect of thickness ratio .betha. on $K_{1}$ is relatively great in comparison to $K_{3}$.

This paper describes a tomographic imaging technique for evaluating the thickness reduction of a plate-like structure using a noncontact sensor network based on an electromagnetic acoustic transducer that generates shear horizontal plate waves. Because this technique is based on the effect of mode cutoff and time of flight of guided waves caused by a change in thickness, the tomographic image provides information on the presence of defects in the structure. To verify the performance of the method, artificial defects with various thickness reduction ratios were machined in an aluminum plate, and the tomographic imaging results are reported. The results show that the generated tomographic image displays the thickness reductions and can identify their locations. Therefore, the proposed technique has good potential as a tool for health monitoring of the integrity of plate-like structures.

A new hybrid quasi-3D and 2D high-order shear deformation theory is studied in this mathematical formulation, for an investigation of the bending, free vibrations and buckling influences on a functionally graded material plate. The theoretical formulation has been begun by a displacement field of five unknowns, governing the transverse displacement across the thickness of the plate by bending, shearing and stretching. The transverse shear deformation effect has been taken into consideration, satisfying the stress-free boundary conditions, especially on plate free surfaces as parabolic variation through its thickness. Thus, the mechanical properties of the functionally graded plate vary across the plate thickness, following three distributions forms: the power law, exponential form and the Mori-Tanaka scheme. The mechanical properties are used to develop the equations of motion, obtained from the Hamilton principle, and solved by applying the Navier-type solution for simply supported boundary conditions. The results obtained are compared with other solutions of 2D, 3D and quasi-3D plate theories have been found in the literature.

A study for the structural strength evaluation of doubler plates subjected to the in-plane combined load and lateral pressure load has been performed through a systematic evaluation process. In order to properly estimate the static strength of doubler plate, elasto-plastic large deflection analysis is introduced including the contact effect between main plate and doubler. The characteristics of stiffness and strength variation are discussed based on the analysis results. Also, in order to compare the doubler structure with the original strength of main plate without doubler, a simple formula for the evaluation of the equivalent flat plate thickness is derived based on the additional series analysis of fiat plate structure. Using this derived equation, the thickness change of a equivalent flat plate is analyzed according to the variation of various design parameters of doubler plate and some design guides are suggested In order to maintain the original strength of main plate without doubler reinforcement. Finally, correlation between derived equivalent plate thickness formula and the developed buckling strength formulas for intact plates by author et al. is discovered and these relations are formulated for the future development of simple strength evaluation formula of doubler plate structure.
An equivalent single layer trigonometric shear deformation theory taking into account transverse shear deformation effect as well as transverse normal strain effect is presented for static flexure of cross-ply laminated composite and sandwich plates. The inplane displacement field uses sinusoidal function in terms of thickness coordinate to include the transverse shear deformation effect. The cosine function in thickness coordinate is used in transverse displacement to include the effect of transverse normal strain. The kinematics of the present theory is much richer than those of the other higher order shear deformation theories, because if the trigonometric term (involving thickness coordinate z) is expanded in power series, the kinematics of higher order theories (which are usually obtained by power series in thickness coordinate z) are implicitly taken into account to good deal of extent. Governing equations and boundary conditions of the theory are obtained using the principle of virtual work. The closed-form solutions of simply supported cross-ply laminated composite and sandwich plates have been obtained. The results of present theory are compared with those of the classical plate theory (CPT), first order shear deformation theory (FSDT), higher order shear deformation theory (HSDT) of Reddy and exact three dimensional elasticity theory wherever applicable. The results predicted by present theory are in good agreement with those of higher order shear deformation theory and the elasticity theory.

Sheet aluminum alloys used in manufacturing of machine structures for transportation show the difference of crack growth speed depending on thickness under the constant fatigue stress condition. The referred thickness effect is a major fatigue failure property of sheet aluminum alloys. In this work, we identified the thickness effect in fatigue test of thick plate and thin plate of Al 2024-T3 alloy under the constant fatigue stress condition, and presented the thickness effect to a correlative equation, $U_{i}^{equ}=f(R_t)$ which is determined by the shape factor, thickness ratio, $R_t$ and the loading factor, equivalent effective stress intensity ratio depending on thickness, $U_{i}^{equ}$. And we analyzed quantitatively the crack growth retardation behavior in thin plate compared to thick plate by the thickness effect using ${\Delta}K$ conversion method. We obtained such values as decrement of thickness(DoT), decrement of stress intensity factor range, ${\Delta}K$ (DoS) and identified the relation between them to present the nature of thickness effect in this work.

In this paper, the RC column-based joint connection part carry out loading test by reinforced hollow or extended Base Plate in order to confirm that RC joint punching shear reinforcement effect of applying the Base Plate. Base Plate thickness, extension length, size, and type as the variable, Base Plate suitable for the stress distribution and shape and dimensions confirmed through experiment and then reinforcing effect was analyzed. Experimentally, vertical load transmitted to the Base Plate from column to foundation is effective to stress distribution and then, type of hollow reinforcement more efficient than a closed. Through experiment, improve performance and ductility due to reinforcement and relative to the thickness of the existing foundation reduced even showed better performance than the existing. The behavior of the reinforced specimens be able to induce from brittle to ductile. Experiment on loading to destroy performed the pattern of cracks, destruction aspect before and after reinforcement.

This stability of a plate structure is very crucial problem which results in wrinkle and bucking. In this study, the effect of the pattern of spot-welding points of the two rectangular plates on the compressive buckling load is studied with respect to the thickness, aspect ratio of plates, number of welding spots. buckling coefficient of the plate not welded was compared with that of two plates with various thickness to extract the effect of thickness. The effect of number of welding spots are studied in tow directions, longitudinal and transverse directions. The conclusions obtained were that the reinforcement effect was maximized when the aspect ratio was close to 1.25 and that the effect of number of welding spots in transverse direction was large than that in longitudinal direction.
