  • The objective of this paper is to propose a new velocity measurement method for an electro-mechanical fin actuator. The model of the electro-mechanical fin actuator includes uncertainties such as unknown disturbances and parameter variations in flight condition. So, an electro-mechanical fin actuator system needs robust control algorithm which requires not only position information but also velocity information. Usually, analog tachometers have been used for velocity feedback in an electro-mechanical fin actuator. However, using these types of sensors have problems such as the cost, space, and malfunction. These problems lead to propose a new velocity measurement method using linear type Hall-effect sensor. In order to verify the proposed method, several experiments are performed using Model Following Sliding Mode Controller(MFSMC). It is shown that the MFSMC with a new velocity measurement method using linear type Hall-effect sensor can satisfy the requirements without using of velocity sensor.

  • The toxicity of environmental pollutants was measured between a image of the surface topography in HeLa cells using atomic force microscopy for the possibility of toxic effect measurement and environmental monitoring. A image of the surface topography by AFM were estimated as toxic endpoints. The surface topography by AFM was observed a change of the cell surface in the environmental pollutants, but the standard of the measurement requires for the dose-effect degree. The overall results indicate that the possibility of measurement using AFM were confirmed a dose-effect degree related toxic effects, but it requres correlation between more various biomarker and AFM's measurements if the possibility of the toxic effect measurement was established.

  • This paper deals with the method of vibration measurement of a gun barrel structure using mechanical filter. When a bullet with high speed is moving within a gun barrel type structure with low bending vibration frequencies, it is difficult to measure the bending vibration signals of the structure. For example, noncontact type sensors such as displacement or velocity sensor are not appropriate for the measurement of vibrational signals because of the movement effect of the equipment frame through the moving structures or effect of the ground vibration. One of contact type sensors such as accelerometer is profitable for measurement of vibrational signals because of its wide measurement ranges. In the case of a gun barrel structure including high vibrational signals like shock waves, however, it is necessary to propose vibration measurement method filtering high frequencies. The purpose of the paper is to propose the proper vibrational measurement technique filtering high frequencies of a gun barrel type structure.

  • A wideband instantaneous frequency measurement (IFM) system is been proposed, designed and analyzed. Phase modulation to intensity modulation conversion is implemented based on the stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) effect, and the microwave frequency can be measured by detecting the change in output power. Theoretical analysis shows that the frequency measurement range can be extended to 4fb by adjusting the two sweeping signals of the phase modulators with a difference of 2fb. The IFM system is set up using VPI transmission maker software and the performances are simulated and analyzed. The simulation results show that the measurement range is 0.5-45.96 GHz with a maximum measurement error of less than 9.9 MHz. The proposed IFM system has a wider measurement range than the existing SBS-based IFM system.

  • Hanwoo is an important livestock resource in Korea. Its genetic improvements of economic traits have mainly focused on the steers in the past. However, there is a great necessity to extend the breed improvement programs to the cows as well. Therefore, the objective of this study was to investigate the effects of various environmental factors (person taking the measurement, region, year of measurement, month of measurement, image interpreter, birth-year and birth-year) on ultrasound measured carcass traits. A total of 27,215 ultrasound measurements of carcass traits were recorded between 2004 and 2012 for 22,620 cows born from 1997 to 2011. The ultrasound measures included backfat thickness (BFT), eye muscle area (EMA), and marbling score (MAR). The mean values for the BFT, EMA and MAR were 4.46 mm, $56.24cm^2$, and 4.12 point, respectively. Seven environmental factors, person taking the measurement, region, year of measurement, month of measurement, image interpreter, birth-year and birth-month, were tested to determine if they had a significant effect on the studied traits using the GLM procedure in SAS. All factors were found to significantly affect all the ultrasound carcass traits in this study. Unlike in previous studies, among the environmental effects, the significant effect of the image interpreter on the ultrasound carcass traits was shown for the first time in this study. These results indicate that future genetic evaluations of ultrasound carcass traits of Hanwoo cows should include all of the above environmental factors as well as the effect from people taking the measurements.

  • In this paper attenuation effect on the measurement and the tomography of nonlinear parameter is discussed. We perform computer simulation with the method using harmonic components and the method using secondary wave components, and then estimate attenuation effect through the results and compare two measurement techniques. According to simulation result the attenuation effect is more intensive as large n and \ulcorner, and the degree of the attenuation effect is represented as error functions. In the aspect of measuremnet techniques, the method using secondary wave components is more insensitive to attenuation effect than the method using harmonic compnents. We obtain the same result in the nonlinear tomography, and show that the attenuation compensive filter is required because the whole tomogram is affected by frequency dependent attenuation(or nonlinear attenuation)

  • Purpose: Measurement results obtained under non-ideal measurement environment conditions may contain uncertain factors. As a result, the reliability of measurement results may be deteriorated. In this study, we tried to find ways to improve quality by evaluating and applying measurement uncertainty based on GUM. Methods: In the flatness measurement of semiconductor parts, uncertainty factors that could occur under actual environmental conditions of workers were derived, and measurement uncertainties were calculated, and methods for minimizing the main factors affecting the measurement results were analyzed. Results: Depending on the part and the coordinate measuring machine, it was shown that the effect of dispersion caused by repeated measurements as type A uncertainty and the effect of the calibration results of equipment as type B uncertainty have the main influence. Conclusion: Depending on the uncertainty factors of type A and type B and the influence of the total expanded uncertainty, the central value and confidence interval of the initial measurement results showed fluctuations. It is considered that analysis and measures for the main uncertainty factors are needed as quality improvement in the industrial field.
