Since educational and fun elements coexist in an educational game, it is important to come up with standards that can elicit fun with the game as well as educational standards. Many of the existing developed educational games have received low marks in the characteristics of entertainment and game design. Thus, how to make up for their entertainment characteristics is important. This paper analyzes gaming elements of puzzle games that were released for smart phones and gained massive popularity from their users and will apply them to educational games. Such games that have gained popularity and won a commercial success include Anipang, Anipang 2, Candy Crush Saga, Farm Heroes Saga and Pokopang. This study will analyze gaming elements of these games. By analyzing the educational games, it is applied to the game elements of casual games. In addition, we have proposed a element that can enhance the immersive. Game design elements that can improve entertainment characteristics include game rules, stages and missions. Elements that can increase immersion include items, background maps and new learning environments. This paper has significance in that it analyzes entertainment characteristics, which mean the fun of games through those that have been a commercial success and applies them to educational games.
In recent, much attention has been paid to the educational serious games that provide both fun and learning effects. However, most educational games have been targeted at the infants and children, and it is still hard to use such games in higher education. On the contrary, this paper aims to develop an educational game for teaching mathematical programming to the undergraduates. It is well known that most puzzle games can be transformed into associated optimization problem and vice versa, and this paper proposes a simple educational game based on the subset sum problem. This game enables the users to play the puzzle and construct their own mathematical programming model for solving it. Moreover, the users are provided with appropriate instructions for modeling and their models are evaluated by using the data automatically generated. It is expected that the educational game in this paper will be helpful for teaching basic programming models to the students in industrial engineering or management science.
The importance of early childhood education has increased and early childhood education has become an important part of the education industry. Scientific and rational early childhood education can effectively promote the development of children's intelligence and is very important for the development of physical and mental health. As a rich and diverse game, educational games have been widely used not only to improve children's sense of cooperation and thinking, but also to help children develop awareness of competition and rules. Stability and personality formation stimulate young children's brain development and expect children's intellectual improvement.
As coding education is ubiquitous in elementary or higher school curriculum, puzzle-based coding platforms such as Scratch or Entry have been popularly deployed and employed by many Korean coding educational institutions. In this article, we propose a quantitative students' coding assessment methodology and discuss several issues of the method. Besides, we show its usefulness through case studies shown in our proprietary coding platform called "CodingPuzzle" system. Additionally, we describe detailed design and implementation issues of our coding assessment system that has already been ported to the CodingPuzzle system and is currently under operation.

A large part of the wireless Internet contents which the young people access through their mobile phones is mobile games. However, mobile games currently available in the market are mostly simple entertainment packages, and there are hardly any educational game contents. This research divided the middle school computer education curriculum into five parts-common PC knowledge, operating systems, word processor, Internet, and multimedia-and designed and implemented a crossword puzzles mobile game. The mobile game designed in this research was given an emphasis to allow access of school lesson contents anywhere and anytime through actual mobile telecommunication networks, so that the students may experience less barrier to more fun and entertaining educational contents. The developed educational mobile game was applied on 2nd year middle school students. The mobile game had positive educational effects.
Recently, a variety of methodologies based on the use of educational coding robots have been proposed and experimented in newly emerging korean educational coding markets. Due to imprecise movement accuracy of the existing coding robots, however, such robots are mainly used as a toy. Inspired by these observations, we developed a simple adjustment method during robot movements, which is based on the observation results of 6 line-tracking sensors: 3 sensors in the center of a robot and other 3 sensors at the front. These sensors help to determine whether the robot is in the right location and whether it rotates as expected. Through the well-designed experiments, we report the effectiveness of our proposed solution: the average distance error of 1.57cm and the average degree error of 2.38 degree before and after complex movements. In near future, we hope our method to be popularly used in various educational coding robot platforms.

The basic direction of mathematical education for a 21st century is focused on helping student to understand mathematics and develop their problem solving abilities, mathematical dispositions and mathematical thinking. Elementary mathematics teachers should help students make sense of mathematics, confident of their ability, and make learning environment comfortable for students to participate in. The best way is to provide chances to play a game for students, considering educational value of game and new directions for mathematical education. Therefore I would like to develop an mathematical game to conform mathematical ideas, and apply it, as well as strengthen students' mathematical disposition such as confidence, flexibility, interest and curiosity to improve quality of mathematical education. If students are helped to be interested in mathematics through mathematical games, they regard mathematics as interesting and challengeable subject to let themselves think many ways.

This study emphasizes the need to understand digital transformation and addresses the development process of functional mobile games with the theme of digital transformation. Through previous research, we found that existing mobile games do not reflect the changes in industries and jobs in the future. In this study, we designed and developed an educational mobile game that can help young people develop digital literacy skills and understand core skills for future changes in industrial structure and jobs due to digital transformation. It utilizes Unity 3D and combines the best features of puzzle, card, and board games. While there may be limitations in terms of expertise in developing educational content, it is important to note that we have presented content that can provide a futuristic view of careers through a game that is highly preferred by students. Considering the direct and indirect educational effects of the game, it is expected to be useful as a vocational education content in the classroom through tablet devices that have recently been distributed in schools.
As computer technology is in progress and many educational methods have been emerged, web-based cooperative learning and educational games have gained a lot of interests. Some cooperative learning systems and game-based educational systems have been suggested, but few cooperative learning systems use games. This paper builds a new web-based cooperative learning system using games that enables learners to actively participate and have high interests in learning. In our system, cooperation study is performed in each group and a group member competes with other group members using games. A crossword puzzle game is adopted because of ease to use and fit with cooperative learning scenarios. Our suggested system is implemented and used by two classes of high school students to evaluate this system. The experimental results show that our system effectively improve students' learning interests and increase their academic achievement.
