  • The purpose of this study was to investigate attitudes toward aging and depression among elderly welfare facility users. For this purpose, a questionnaire-based survey was conducted with 280 elderly participants in the facilities of 15 institutions in Gyeonggi-do. In total, 258 data points were used for analysis. The measuring instruments used an attitude scale and depression scale for aging. The results of this study are as follows. First, there was no difference in attitude toward aging and depression among elderly welfare institution users by gender. Second, attitudes toward aging among elderly welfare facility users were also assessed according to final educational background. Positive attitudes in general (lack of depression) and positive attitudes toward aging were found to be higher with a higher rate of final academic completion. Third, attitudes toward aging were assessed according to experience with welfare facilities among the elderly, and it was found that depression has a significant impact on perceptions of physical change caused by aging. As a result, even when attitudes toward aging are generally negative, an elderly person cannot be judged to be depressed because this is highly related to final academic completion. Therapists working in welfare facilities for the elderly are more likely to have negative attitudes toward aging and depression when the number of facilities used is lower.

  • It is most desirable to train with a real crane in an environment similar to that of a port for crane operation training in charge of loading and unloading in a port, but it has time and space limitations and cost problems. In order to overcome these limitations, VR(Virtual Reality) based crane training programs and related devices are receiving a lot of attention. In this paper, we designed and implemented a VR-based harbor crane simulator operating on an HMD. The simulator developed in this paper consists of a crane simulator program that operates on the HMD, an IoT driving terminal that processes trainees' crane operation input, and a training server that stores trainees' training information. The simulator program provides VR-based crane training scenarios implemented with Unity3D, and the IoT driving terminal developed based on Arduino is composed of two controllers and transmits the user's driving operation to the HMD. In particular, the crane simulator in this paper uses a training server to create a database of environment setting values for each educator, progress and training time, and information on driving warning situations. Through the use of such a server, trainees can use the simulator in a more convenient environment and can expect improved educational effects by providing training information.

  • In this study, we used an analysis of the literature on socio-scientific issues (SSI) classes to examine domestic SSI class research and to determine the characteristics of SSI class research for each subject. A search for papers related to SSI classes published in Korea Citation Index-listed journals and candidate journals of the Korea Research Foundation found 95 relevant papers, which were then categorized according to participants and topics. Studies with both pre-service and experienced teachers attempted to investigate SSI-related perceptions. Studies of pre-service teachers tended to examine the level and development pattern of argumentation or to analyze decision-making characteristics and informal reasoning. Studies of experienced teachers tended to analyze instructional expertise in SSI teaching activities, focusing on teachers with substantial SSI teaching experience. Middle and high school students-related studies examined student decision-making and reasoning processes in SSI learning activities, developed SSI class programs, and analyzed educational effects. Examining the characteristics of SSI classes for elementary school students was difficult because few such studies have been published. However, the characteristics that elementary school students show in SSI learning situations could be inferred. A plan to revitalize SSI classes in the elementary science education field from the perspective of teacher education and class research is suggested.

  • This study is a descriptive research study to understand the effects of nurses' perception of the disabled, contact experience with the disabled, and human rights sensitivity on attitudes toward the disabled. The subjects of the study were 181 nurses working at two university hospitals in D City and one university hospital in C Special Self-Governing City. Data were collected from September 2, 2021 to October 6, 2021. The collected data wre analyzed using IBM SPSS 26.0 program, and analyzed with t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's Correlation Coefficients, and Multiple Regression Analysis. Factors affecting the subject's attitude toward people with disabilities were perception of people with disabilities(t=-3.96, p<.001), presence or absence of contact with patients with disabilities(t=3.23, p=.001), and the ability to perceive responsibility among human rights sensitivity(t=2.13, p=.035), whether or not they had completed education for improvement the awareness of the disabilities(t=2.90, p=.004), and whether they were recognized of the Act on the Right to Health and Medical Accessibility for the Disabled(t=2.44, p=.016), which showed 30% of explanatory power(F=9.36, p<.001). Accordingly, it is necessary to develop an educational program that can foster nurses' attitudes toward the disabled, including awareness of the disabled, human rights sensitivity, the Health Rights Act for the Disabled, and the experience of contact with the disabled.

  • Concerns related to diversity are important throughout society, especially in the context of expansive globalization. In education, diversity-related issues require careful consideration to ensure social groups that have historically been marginalized benefit from educational opportunities. In this study, we investigated a case from within the United States aimed at addressing diversity issues in schools and discuss the implications of this study in relation to diversity issues in Korea. More specifically, we examined the features of the professional development program designed and implemented by the Smithsonian Science Education Center, as well as survey results from teachers who participated between 2019-2020. Our findings revealed that the program provided participants context specific experiences, space and time to develop an in-depth understandings of the causes of diversity issues and supports to attend to the various perspectives needed to set specific goals and action plans and to examine, refine, and revise their plans. Further, features of the professional development program had meaningful effects on participants' learning experience as they were supported to identify useful proposals and take action to solve their specific diversity issues. • The purpose of this research is to analyze the effect of an autobiography writing program as a method of education for older adults. The authors participated in the processes of all 10 sessions of the autobiography writing program as instructors or program assistants at a senior welfare center in Seoul, 2007. Data used for analysis were learners' narrations in class, written autobiographies by learners, and researchers' memo-notes. We analyzed their narrative flows using Haenninen(2000)'s theory of narrative flow and reconstructed their categories of activities as life histories. 'The innen narration' constructed by learners was a spiritual process in which they have imbued their life and living conditions with meaning. The learners reminisced their lives as 'unreflective narration' in the beginning of education. However, as the class went on, they gradually reminisced them as "reflective narration" and finally developed them as 'meta-reflective narration' through the intentional reflection. Likewise, we could interpret the transition of learners into meta-reflecter as the completion of ego-integration. As a conclusion, we found the effects of the autobiography writing education for older adults in educational, social, and psychological aspects.
