  • The main objective of this research is to develop an experimental educational facility management information system that will be used for maintaining existing educational facilities in the elementary, junior high, and high schools. The development is based on the nationwide development plan of the education administration information system. The system developed is accomplished by use of Map-application Information System(MAPIS), an applied commercial software that combines Geographic Information System(GIS) with existing Information and Communication Technologies(ICT) such as Database system, Multimedia methodology, and Internet system. In order to figure out the features to be improved in the system developed, the research interviewed the educational facilities management in the Ministry of Education and P Local Education Authority. The authors suggest the functional improvement of the system based on the interview results.

Utilization of an Educational Information System for Medical Education (의학교육에서의 교육정보시스템 활용)

  • The teaching and learning environment in medical schools is significantly different from that of other academic fields. An educational information system specifically designed for medical education could be an important solution for the unique context of medical education. In this study, the concept of the educational information system has been reviewed, and how such a system can be utilized effectively for medical education has also been explored. This paper also addresses how learning management systems for online learning could be made more effective through educational information systems. The application of flipped learning, which has been developing rapidly to improve teaching and learning, for medical education was also investigated. In conclusion, it was found that educational information systems could be a solution to various teaching and learning issues in medical schools. In particular, given that high performing students tend to enter medical schools, using educational information systems to improve the teaching and learning environment in medical school should be investigated further.

Research on the Application of Load Balancing in Educational Administration System

  • Load balancing plays a crucial role in ensuring the stable operation of information management systems during periods of high user access requests; therefore, load balancing approaches should be reasonably selected. Moreover, appropriate load balancing techniques could also result in an appropriate allocation of system resources, improved system service, and economic benefits. Nginx is one of the most widely used loadbalancing software packages, and its deployment is representative of load-balancing application research. This study introduces Nginx into an educational administration system, builds a server cluster, and compares and sets the optimal cluster working strategy based on the characteristics of the system, Furthermore, it increases the stability of the system when user access is highly concurrent and uses the Nginx reverse proxy service function to improve the cluster's ability to resist illegal attacks. Finally, through concurrent access verification, the system cluster construction becomes stable and reliable, which significantly improves the performance of the information system service. This research could inform the selection and application of load-balancing software in information system services.

  • In primary and secondary schools, various information, such as grade results, observation and counseling materials, and psychological examination results which are generated in the course of educational activities, are accumulated and managed in various forms. Nevertheless, there is no educational information system that provides the analytical information for diagnosing and grasping students in a multidimensional manner. This is reminiscent of situations in which doctors rely solely on clinical experience to treat patients without using the results of various tests on patients. As pointed out by the Ministry of Education in 'Educational Big Data Utilization Measures' of the 5th Basic Plan of Educational Informatization(2014 ~ 2018), the reason why educational information systems do not exist is because there are no basic research as well as comprehensive and systemic research on this field. Therefore, this study aims to design and implement a prototype for educational information system that enables customized student guidance by introducing the concept of analytical information systems that are used in various fields. We defined the core functions and contents of educational information system through job analysis and focus group interview, and implemented the prototype using Naver ProtoNow.

A Development of RSS-based Educational Information System for Providing Adapted Information (맞춤형 정보제공을 위한 RSS 기반 교육정보시스템의 개발)

  • In this study, we develop a RSS-based educational information system for providing users, such as teachers, students, and parents of students with an adapted information. In order to collect an educational information from diverse web pages we design a web-based RSS reader. The RSS reader reads RSS files from the web sites or blogs which provide RSS feeds and then creates XML documents. The created XML documents are classified and registered into the system. Whenever the registered web-pages are updated, the system can automatically collect the updated information and provide the user with it. Therefore the user can be provided a real-time adapted educational information without searching web-sites from the system.

A Model-Based Method for Information Alignment: A Case Study on Educational Standards

  • We propose a model-based method for information alignment using educational standards as a case study. Discrepancies and inconsistencies in educational standards across different states/cities hinder the retrieval and sharing of educational resources. Unlike existing educational standards alignment systems that only give binary judgments (either "aligned" or "not-aligned"), our proposed system classifies each pair of educational standard statements in one of seven levels of alignments: Strongly Fully-aligned, Weakly Fully-aligned, Partially-$aligned^{***}$, Partially-$aligned^{**}$, Partially-$aligned^*$, Poorly-aligned, and Not-aligned. Such a 7-level categorization extends the notion of binary alignment and provides a finer-grained system for comparing educational standards that can broaden categories of resource discovery and retrieval. This study continues our previous use of mathematics education as a domain, because of its generally unambiguous concepts. We adopt a materialization pattern (MP) model developed in our earlier work to represent each standard statement as a verb-phrase graph and a noun-phrase graph; we align a pair of statements using graph matching based on Bloom's Taxonomy, WordNet, and taxonomy of mathematics concepts. Our experiments on data sets of mathematics educational standards show that our proposed system can provide alignment results with a high degree of agreement with domain expert's judgments.

  • One of the most important concepts in the 7th curriculum of Korea is the student-centered education. Since educational evaluation has significant influence on the whole curriculum, if we realize the importance of the student-center education on the curriculum we should establish the student-centered educational evaluation system. Educational evaluation is defined by the theory of information to permit information users to identify, to measure, to manipulate and to communicate useful educational information concerning an educational curriculum for making decisions. If we accept the above definitions, the demands of information users are significant in the light of conceptual framework of educational evaluation. The purpose of this study is to analyze the conceptual framework of educational evaluation from information users' perspectives and to investigate the qualitative characteristics which satisfy information users' need for making decisions. We also show that students aren't provided sufficient evaluation results information to decide for their study plans by analyzing an evaluation study of the 7th primary curriculum. Finally, this study suggests how to improve an evaluation system for students in mathematics.

  • It is required that public schools in information society should act as a balancer between the equal educational opportunity and development of the personal capacity. However, public schools have faced a situation to be blamed and praised by social parties concerned from the point of view of educational excellence. The aim of this study is to suggest some conceptual ideas for sharing & delivery system of educational information, which is based on the paradigm of web 2.0 characterized as participation, sharing, and openness. To do it, we analyzed the recent technological trends and took a group discussion with leading teachers in educational information.

  • Today, Educational serious games are occupying a large portion of the serious game market but there is a lack of the quality evaluation systems for providing useful quality evaluation information about educational serious game to user or developer. Although the existing metadata management system for serious game is developed, the system had not provided a function to manage the quality evaluation information for educational serious game. Therefor the development of quality evaluation management system of educational serious game is a very important challenge. We proposed design of the system for managing a metadata and a quality evaluation for educational serious game. The advantage of our system is that the system provide a lot of reliable useful information for general users and developers, and support an easy and convenient tool to manage the metadata and quality information to managers.

  • The article starts with a review of system characteristic, information characteristic and personal characteristic on educational performance through educational satisfaction. This survey is intended for educatee's who take the course of KcLep. We found that all variables of system characteristic(easiness, flexibility and reliability) significantly effect the educational satisfaction. Information characteristic(timeliness, usefulness) significantly effect on educational satisfaction, but the correctness doesn't significantly effect on educational satisfaction. Personal characteristic(self-efficacy and achievement motivation) significantly effect on educational satisfaction, but the computing ability doesn't significantly effect on educational satisfaction. We found that the educational satisfaction significantly effect on the education performance.
