The obtained results were as follows 1. In the actual status of oral care based on whether or not they have experiences in taking oral health care education, undergraduates with teeth brushing for more than three minutes a time were found to be 25.9% and 15.7% respectively according to the existence and nonexistence of experiences in the education(pM0.020), and undergraduates with teeth brushing in a circular motion was found to be 64.7% and 51.7% respectively, showing statistically significant differences(pM0.015). 2. In the actual status of preventative oral care according to whether or not they have experiences in taking oral care education, degrees of awareness of the usefulness of dental cleansers among the undergraduates were found to be 37.6% and 21.5% respectively according to the existence and nonexistence of experiences in the education(pM0.001), undergraduates with experiences in scaling were found to be 51.8% and 34.9% respectively(pM0.002) and undergraduates with experiences in having dental sealants were found to be 26.5% and 16.9%(pM0.031), showing statistically significant differences. 3. In the survey on perceptions of oral health care according to the existence and nonexistence of experiences in oral health care education, it was revealed that the case that they indicated 'the necessity of oral health care education' was 87.1% and 64.0% respectively according to the existence and nonexistence of the experience(pM0.000), and undergraduates intended to 'participate in oral care education for students(at mid and high schools and so on) after being teachers' were 77.6% and 65.7% respectively, showing statistically significant differences(pM0.011). 4. In general characteristics according to awareness of the necessity of cultivating oral health professionals, groups with awareness of the necessity consisted of 31.8% of freshmen and juniors(pM0.001), 55.69b of female undergraduates(pM0.001), 80.8% of non-smokers(pM0.012), 38.9% of large city residents(pM0.002) and 32.3% of undergraduates living in their own houses (pM0.028), showing statistically significant differences.
The objectives of this study were to find the status of health education of residents. and to analyze the status of knowledge. attitude. and practice about adult disease. especially about hypertension. diabetes mullitus, cancer and health care system etc. and to find the relation between the factors and knowledge status. attitude and practice. The survey was carried out for half month from July 1 to 15. 1997. The subjects were 283 persons in the rural areas that were chosen from one country. Muan Gun near Mokpo City. To interview the rural residents, 5 volunteer interviewers were recruited from university students whose major is nursing, and they were trained about the questionnaire. The percentage of the acceptance of health education are $1.1\%-9.2\%$ of the subjects that the degree of the percentage of the health education was highest in diabetes mellitus. and the next were hypertension. cancer. joint disease. CVA. Therefore the need of the health education was very high. Of the subjects. $13.4\%-60.8\%$ wanted to receive the health education about each disease. Highest proportion of the subjects indicated hypertension and joint disease. Of the subjects $42.1\%-6.7\%$ knew each disease. The degree of knowledge was highest in cancer. followed by T.B., D.M., and hypertension. Of the subjects. $58.5\%$ practiced after receiving health education. and $47.3\%$ were getting periodic health examination during the last one year. Of the subjects. $76.1\%-94.4\%$ did not practice preventive methods such as low-salt diet. periodic health examination and exercise etc.. The knowledge and attitude. and practice of the health were more active in male persons and in highly educated persons significantly than their counterparts. As the adult diseases now are more prevalent than before. more attention should be put on health education to prevent adult diseases in the dimension of developed practice method.
We would like to suggest the guideline of use of materials of sexual education for adolescent in school by examining the status of use of materials and by evaluating the video materials frequently used. Survey was done by enquetes on status of use of materials of sexual education from school nurses in 190 primary, 44 middle and 50 high schools in Seoul, Kyonggi-do and Kangwon-do from August 1999 to February 2000. The frequently used 84 videotapes were evaluated on their contents. As for the status of use, 99.3% of subjected schools possessed the materials for sexual education. Decision of purchase was determined according to the review of contents (92.6%). Information about materials was received by the advertisement in newspapers or broadcasting (46.1%) or recommendation of peer teacher (32.4%). Videotape was most frequently used (64.1%) rather than books or CD. Teachers concerns on the materials were the educational content according to developmental stage of students (41.9%), content provoking interest (33.5%) and concrete guide for teacher (10.6%). As for the evaluation of the contents of videotapes, a subject of education was not described out of 46.6%. Videotape producer were mostly the Government-affiliated institutes or non-profit organizations (86.8%). The year of production was indicated from 41.7%. Running time range of 21-30 minutes was highest (55.9%). The price was marked in only one videotape. Subjects of contents were general sexual education (34.5%), sexual violence or sexual harassment (21.4%), pregnancy and contraception (14.2%) and AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases (8.3%) and dating and adolescent change (4. 8%), and etc (11.9 %). According to above results, we suggested that materials for sexual education should be completed with a description on the subjected group, summary of content, information on the tape producer, year of production, running time and sale price.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of a nutrition education and exercise on nutritional status in hemodialysis patients, with regard to quality of life (QoL), and fatigue. The subjects were divided into two groups : an educated (E) group (11 men and 9 women) and a non-educated (NE) group (7 men and 22 women). The educated group received a nutrition education and a regular exercise program for 3 months. Data on anthropometric indices and biochemical parameters were obtained from medical records. Dietary habits and nutrient intake were assessed through questionnaires and three-day food records. QoL (through the SF-36 questionnaire) and fatigue (measured by a visual analogue scale questionnaire) were assessed before and after the interventions. Dietary habit scores regarding food variety and fluid intake control significantly increased (P<0.05) after the nutrition education. Furthermore, the intake of total energy, carbohydrates, Fe, and vitamin A significantly increased (P<0.05). Vitamin C intake also significantly increased (P<0.01). Hb levels decreased whereas TG levels increased in the NE group. BUN levels decreased in the E group. After the nutrition education, QoL aspects, such as feelings of pain and general health, and the total score significantly increased (P<0.05) and the level of fatigue score decreased (P<0.01). The results of this study indicate that nutrition education and exercise for hemodialysis patients provides changes in dietary habit, daily nutrient intake, biochemical parameters, QoL, and the level of fatigue. Therefore, nutrition education and exercise help improve nutritional status and QoL.
Objectives: To identify the willingness of laypersons to perform the cardiopulmonary resuscitation(CPR), we analyzed their characteristics of socio-economic status and health-medical conditions associated with their willingness. Methods: Based on a health survey of Incheon Metropolitan City adults(N=5,114), tests of the differences between a group with willingness to perform CPR(=1,531) and a group with non-willingness to perform CPR(=3,583), and a logistic regression analysis of two groups were executed on socio-economic status-gender, age, marital stats, education level, jobs, and monthly household income-and health-medical conditions-CPR-related self-confidence, CPR education, chronic diseases, accident experience, EMS(emergency medical service) experience, and health status. Results: The rate of the willingness group was 29.9%, which was relatively lower than other developed countries. There were statistically significant differences between the willingness group with the non-willingness group on gender, age, jobs, CPR-related self-confidence, CPR education, and so on. Furthermore, Gender, age, students or armed forces among jobs, CPR-related self-confidence, and CPR education were statistically significant influential factors on the willingness to perform CPR. Conclusion: This study indicated that there was considerable variation in socio-economic status and health-medical conditions associated with willingness to perform CPR in Incheon. The CPR education aimed at increasing CPR-related self-confidence and correcting inaccurate perceptions of CPR attitudes would promote its use in response to out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.
