  • For an atomatic generation of DEM(Digital Elevation Model) by computer, it is a time-consumed work to determine adquate matches from stereo images. Correlation and evenly distributed area-based method is generally used for matching operation. In this paper, we propose a new approach that computes matches efficiantly by changing the size of mask window and search area according to the given terrain information. For image segmentation, at first edge-preserving smoothing filter is used for preprocessing, and then region growing algorithm is applied for the filterd images. The segmented regions are classifed into mountain, plain and water area by using MRF(Markov Random Filed) model. Maching is composed of predicting parallex and fine matching. Predicted parallex determines the location of search area in fine matching stage. The size of search area and mask window is determined by terrain information for each pixel. The execution time of matching is reduced by lessening the size of search area in the case of plain and water. For the experiments, four images which are covered $10km{\times}10km(1024{\times}1024\;pixel)$ of Taejeon-Kumsan in each are studied. The result of this study shows that the computing time of the proposed method using terrain information for matching operation can be reduced from 25% to 35%.

  • In this paper, we propose a new method to convert a low-resolution depth map into its high-resolution one called distance transform-based bilateral upsampling. Since the proposed method controls the spatial domain weighting function based on distance transform values of the depth map, it increases the input depth map resolution while preserving edge sharpness. The proposed method is composed of three main steps: distance transform, spatial weighting control, and image interpolation. Experimental results show that our method outperforms the conventional bilateral upsampling in terms of the quality of output depth maps.

  • Compressive Sensing (CS) is a new signal acquisition paradigm which enables sampling under Nyquist rate for a special kind of signal called sparse signal. There are plenty of CS recovery methods but their performance are still challenging, especially at a low sub-rate. For CS recovery of natural images, regularizations exploiting some prior information can be used in order to enhance CS performance. In this context, this paper addresses improving quality of reconstructed natural images based on Dantzig selector and smooth filters (i.e., Gaussian filter and nonlocal means filter) to generate a new regularization called smooth residual error regularization. Moreover, total variation has been proved for its success in preserving edge objects and boundary of reconstructed images. Therefore, effectiveness of the proposed regularization is verified by experimenting it using augmented Lagrangian total variation minimization. This framework is considered as a new CS recovery seeking smoothness in residual images. Experimental results demonstrate significant improvement of the proposed framework over some other CS recoveries both in subjective and objective qualities. In the best case, our algorithm gains up to 9.14 dB compared with the CS recovery using Bayesian framework.

  • Digital processing technologies are being studied in various areas of image compression, recognition and recovery. However, image deterioration still occurs due to the noises in the process of image acquisition, storage and transmission. Generally in the typical noises which are included in the images, there are Gaussian noise and the mixed noise where the Gaussian noise and impulse noise are overlapped and in order to remove these noises, various researches are being executed. In order to preserve the edge and effectively remove mixed noises, image recovery filter algorithm was suggested in this study which sets and processes the adaptive weight using the median values and average values after noise judgment. Additionally, existing methods were compared through simulations and PSNR(peak signal to noise ratio) was used as a judgment standard.

  • Noise removal is one of the required step in processing digital video and there are many researches to develop algorithm that fits with its purpose and environment. However, present impulse noise removal methods are lacking in its function in terms of removing noise in edge and high frequency factors. Therefore, this research has Extended range of masks depending on density to determine noise so that high frequency factors can be preserved. The range of resolution is set based on median and standard deviation of inside resolution after removing impulse noise. afterwards, those resolution within the range are calculated by adding weight to have the final output value. The suggested algorithm has an enhanced function in removing noise in various areas with many edge and high frequency factors than present methods and their functions are compared through simulation.

  • GF (Guided Filtering) is a representative image processing technique to effectively remove noise while preserving edge information in the digital image. In this paper, we proposed a unsupervised change detection method for the KOMPSAT-3 satellite image using the GF and evaluated its performance. In order to utilize GF for the unsupervised change detection, cross-sharpened images were generated based on GF, and CVA (Change Vector Analysis) was applied to the generated cross-sharpened images to extract the changed area in the multitemporal satellite imagery. Experimental results using KOMPSAT-3 satellite images showed that the proposed method can be effectively used to detect changed regions compared with CVA results based on existing cross-sharpened images.

  • Noise in an image degrades image quality and deteriorates coding efficiency. Recently, various edge-preserving noise filtering methods based on the nonstationary image model have been proposed to overcome this problem. In most conventional nonstationary image models, however, pixels are assumed to be uncorrelated to each other in order not to Increase the computational burden too much. As a result, some detailed information is lost in the filtered results. In this paper, we propose a computationally feasible adaptive noise smoothing algorithm which considers the nonstationary correlation characteristics of images. We assume that an image has a nonstationary mean and can be segmented into subimages which have individually different stationary correlations. Taking advantage of the special structure of the covariance matrix that results from the proposed image model, we derive a computationally efficient FFT-based adaptive linear minimum mean-square-error filter. Justification for the proposed image model is presented and effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is demonstrated experimentally.

  • The aim of this study is to suggest the method for image enhancement of digital chest radiograph and evaluate clinically the quality of the resultant image. A nonlinear iterative filter was developed in order to reduce quantum noise preserving edge. Dynamic range was adjusted and adaptive image enhancement was performed based on the property of anatomic region and the degree of compatibility with neighboring pixels. The lung fields were enhanced appropriately to visualize effectively vascular tissue, bronchus and lung tissue with the desired mediastinum enhancement. Clinic evaluation was performed by three radiologists with at least 8 years experience. The anatomic regions of 11 in PA and 9 in Lateral were observed carefully in each 100 radiographs according to ITU (International Telecommunication Union) recommendation 500 protocol. The result showed the mean 3.4 between good and adequate. This means that the clinical utility of the image quality is enough. In this study, image enhancement was carried out considering image display device and human perceptual system to prevent the loss of useful anatomic information. In order to increase the diagnostic accuracy in digital radiograph, the continuous study on image enhancement is needed.
