The Design of Smart Factory System using AI Edge Device (AI 엣지 디바이스를 이용한 스마트 팩토리 시스템 설계)

  • In this paper, we design a smart factory risk improvement system and risk improvement method using AI edge devices. The smart factory risk improvement system collects, analyzes, prevents, and promptly responds to the worker's work performance process in the smart factory using AI edge devices, and can reduce the risk that may occur during work with improving the defect rate when workers perfom jobs. In particular, based on worker image information, worker biometric information, equipment operation information, and quality information of manufactured products, it is possible to set an abnormal risk condition, and it is possible to improve the risk so that the work is efficient and for the accurate performance. In addition, all data collected from cameras and IoT sensors inside the smart factory are processed by the AI edge device instead of all data being sent to the cloud, and only necessary data can be transmitted to the cloud, so the processing speed is fast and it has the advantage that security problems are low. Additionally, the use of AI edge devices has the advantage of reducing of data communication costs and the costs of data transmission bandwidth acquisition due to decrease of the amount of data transmission to the cloud.

Edge-based Surface Segmentation Algorithm of 3-D Image using Curvature (곡률을 이용한 3차원 영상의 에지 기반 표면 분할 알고리즘)

  • In this paper, we suggest an edge-based surface segmentation algorithm of 3D image using curvature. For the first, in this proposed method, we approximate 3D depth data to second order curves by each scan line and decide splitting points of 3D edges by curvature of the approximated curves. And finally make a group as 3D surface with the region of input image by the 3D edges. In the conventional algorithms, there are some difficulties in detecting 3D edge with the separated processes for the jump edge and the crease edge and especially, in deciding the ambiguous discontinuity of surface directions about the crease edge. The proposed algorithm decides curvature discontinuity using curvature which is simply calculated by a geometrical approximation. Furthermore, the algorithm has a cooperated process to calculate the jump and crease edges. The results of computer simulations with several 3D images show that the proposed method yields better performance as comparing with the conventional methods.

  • In this paper, we presents a new disparity map refinement algorithm using statistical characteristics of disparity map and edge information. The proposed algorithm generate a refined disparity map using disparity maps which are obtained from area and feature-based Stereo Matching by selecting a disparity value of edge point based on the statistics of both disparity maps. Experimental results on aerial stereo image show the better results than conventional fusion algorithms in the disparity error. This algorithm can be applied to the reconstruction of building image from the high resolution remote sensing data.

  • In many information retrieval experiments, the data fusion techniques have been used to achieve higher effectiveness in comparison to the single evidence-based retrieval. However, there had not been many image retrieval studies using the data fusion techniques especially in combining retrieval results based on multiple retrieval methods. In this paper, we describe how the image retrieval effectiveness can be improved by combining two sets of the retrieval results using the Sobel operator-based edge detection and the Self Organizing Map(SOM) algorithms. We used the clip art images from a commercial collection to develop a test data set. The main advantage of using this type of the data set was the clear cut relevance judgment, which did not require any human intervention.

Image Compression with Edge Directions based on DCT-VQ (DCT-VQ를 기반으로 한 에지의 방향성을 갖는 영상압축)

  • In this paper, a new DCT-VQ method is proposed which can solve the problems of VQ such as the degradation of edge and enormous calculations. VQ is carried in DCT domain but spatial domain in order to protect the degradation of edge. DCT makes high correlated image data decorrelated and the energy concentrated on a few coefficients. In DCT domain, the DC coefficient is quantized with 8 bits uniform scalar quantizer and the AC coefficients are divided to three regions and coded with vector qiantizer for considering edge components. For the decrease of the calculation and memory, the vectors for three region have small dimension of $1{\times}7$ and use the same codebook. Thus, the proposed method can fully express the edge components by considering AC coefficients in DCT domain and decrease the calculation and memory be reducing the dimension of vectors.

Strategy for Task Offloading of Multi-user and Multi-server Based on Cost Optimization in Mobile Edge Computing Environment

  • With the development of mobile edge computing, how to utilize the computing power of edge computing to effectively and efficiently offload data and to compute offloading is of great research value. This paper studies the computation offloading problem of multi-user and multi-server in mobile edge computing. Firstly, in order to minimize system energy consumption, the problem is modeled by considering the joint optimization of the offloading strategy and the wireless and computing resource allocation in a multi-user and multi-server scenario. Additionally, this paper explores the computation offloading scheme to optimize the overall cost. As the centralized optimization method is an NP problem, the game method is used to achieve effective computation offloading in a distributed manner. The decision problem of distributed computation offloading between the mobile equipment is modeled as a multi-user computation offloading game. There is a Nash equilibrium in this game, and it can be achieved by a limited number of iterations. Then, we propose a distributed computation offloading algorithm, which first calculates offloading weights, and then distributedly iterates by the time slot to update the computation offloading decision. Finally, the algorithm is verified by simulation experiments. Simulation results show that our proposed algorithm can achieve the balance by a limited number of iterations. At the same time, the algorithm outperforms several other advanced computation offloading algorithms in terms of the number of users and overall overheads for beneficial decision-making.

Segmentation of Scalp and Skull in brain MR Images Using CannyEdge Level Set Method

  • In this paper, we present a novel automatic algorithm for scalp and skull segmentation in T1-weighted head MR images. First, the scalp and skull part are constructed by using intensity threshold. Second, the scalp outer surface is extracted based on an active level set method. Third, the skull inner surface is extracted using a canny edge detection algorithm. Finally, the fast sweeping, tagging and level set methods are applied to reconstruct surfaces from the detected points in three-dimensional space. The results of the new segmentation algorithm on MRI data acquired from eight persons were compared with manual segmented data. The average similarity indices for the scalp and skull segmented regions were equal to 84.42% for the test data.

A Platform Providing Interactive Signage Based on Edge-cloud Cooperation (엣지-클라우드 협업 기반 인터랙티브 사이니지 제공 플랫폼)

  • Advances in IoT data analysis technology have made it easier to analyze situation and provide interactive services based on the context. Most of digital signage application have been used to provide information uni-directionally, but in the future it will evolve to provide personalized content according to the individual user situation and responses. However, it is not easy to modify or apply the existing interactive digital signage platforms due to their hardware dependency. The proposed platform is modularized by dividing main functions into two, the cloud and the edge, so that advertisement resources can be easily generated and registered. Thus, interactive advertisement can be rendered in a timely manner based on sensor analysis results. At the edge, personal data can be processed to minimize privacy issues, and real-time IoT sensor data can be analyzed for quick response to the signage player. The cloud is easier to access and manage by multiple users than edge. Therefore, the signage content generation module improves accessibility and flexibility by handling advertisement contents in the cloud so that multiple users can work together on the cloud platform. The proposed platform was developed and simulated in two aspects. First is the provider who provides the signage service, and second is the viewer who uses the content of the signage. Simulation results show that the proposed platform enables providers to quickly construct interactive signage contents and responses appropriately to the context changes in real-time.

Fuzzy Logic Based Auto Navigation System Using Dual Rule Evaluation Structure for Improving Driving Ability of a Mobile Robot (모바일 로봇의 주행 능력 향상을 위한 이중 룰 평가 구조의 퍼지 기반 자율 주행 알고리즘)

  • A fuzzy logic based mobile robot navigation system was developed to improve the driving ability without trapping inside obstacles in complex terrains, which is one of the most concerns in robot navigation in unknown terrains. The navigation system utilizes the data from ultrasonic sensors to recognize the distances from obstacles and the position information from a GPS sensor. The fuzzy navigation system has two groups of behavior rules, and the robot chooses one of them based on the information from sensors while navigating for the targets. In plain terrains the robot with the proposed algorithm uses one rule group consisting of behavior rules for avoiding obstacle, target steering, and following edge of obstacle. Once trap is detected the robot uses the other rule group consisting of behavior rules strengthened for following edge of obstacle. The output signals from navigation system control the speed of two wheels of the robot through the fuzzy logic data process. The test was conducted in the Matlab based mobile robot simulator developed in this study, and the results show that escaping ability from obstacle is improved.

Game-Based Content Caching and Data Sponsor Scheme for the Content Network (콘텐츠 네트워크 환경에서 게임이론을 이용한 콘텐츠 캐싱 및 데이터 스폰서 기법)

  • Recently, as the types of services that can be enjoyed in mobile telecommunication networks such as social networks and video streaming are increasing, mobile users(MUs) can access mobile contents easily by consuming mobile data. However, under a mobile telecommunication environment, MUs have to pay a high data fee to a network service provider(SP) in order to enjoy contents. The 'data sponsor' technique, introduced as a way to solve this problem, has attracted attention as a breakthrough method for enhancing contents accessibility of MUs. In this paper, we propose an algorithm that determines the optimal discount rate through the Stackelberg game in the data sponsor environment. We also propose an algorithm to design edge caching, which caches highly popular content for MUs on edge server, through many-to-many matching game. Simulation results clearly indicate that the profit for CP's content consumption is improved by about 6~11%, and the profit of CP according to the ratio of edge caching is improved by about 12% than the other existing schemes under data sponsor environment.
