Some essential components in nuclear power plants are periodically inspected using non-destructive examinations, for example ultrasonic, eddy current and radiographic examinations, in order to determine their integrity. These components include nuclear power plant items such as vessels, containments, piping systems, pumps, valves, tubes and core support structure. Steam generator tubes have an important safety role because they constitute one of the primary barriers between the radioactive and non-radioactive sides of the nuclear power plant. There is potential that if a tube bursts while a plant is operating, radioactivity from the primary coolant system could escape directly to the atmosphere. Therefore, in-service inspections are critical in maintaining steam generator tube integrity. In general, the eddy current testing is widely used for the inspection of steam generator tubes due to its high inspection speed and flaw detectability on non-magnetic tubes. However, it is not easy to analyze correctly eddy current signals because they are influenced by many factors. Therefore, the performance of eddy current data analysts for steam generator tubing should be demonstrated comprehensively. In Korea, the performance of steam generator tubing analysts has been demonstrated using the Qualified Data Analyst program. This paper describes the performance demonstration program for steam generator tubing analysts and its implementation results in Korea. The pass rate of domestic analysts for this program was 71.4%.

As interest in the reduction of energy loss has increased in recent years, analysis of losses in power cables is becoming more important. The overall loss in the transmission system can be measured, but there are many difficulties in researching the loss in each internal structure. There are various factors in the type of loss, and the loss of external factors by previous research has been studied. However, there is little research on the cable internal loss. Since the metal sheath inside the cable is made of aluminum having a high conductivity, an eddy current is generated due to the current flowing in the conductor, thereby causing an eddy current loss inevitably. In this paper, the eddy current loss in metal sheath of 154 kV Cable was researched through FEM (Finite Element Method) electromagnetic analysis.
The impacts of equivalence ratio on the flow structure and flame dynamics in a model gas turbine combustor are investigated using large eddy simulation(LES). Dynamic k-equation model and G-equation flamelet model are employed as LES subgrid model for flow and combustion, respectively. As a result of mean flow field for each equivalence ratio, the increase of equivalence ratio brings about the decrease of swirl intensity through the modification of thermal effect and viscosity, although the same swirl intensity is imposed at inlet. The changes of vortical structure and turbulent intensity etc. near flame surface are occurred consequently. That is, the decrease of equivalence ratio can leads to the increase of heat release fluctuation by the more increased turbulent intensity and fluctuation of recirculation flow. In addition, the effect of inner vortex generated from vortex breakdown on the heat release fluctuation is increased gradually with the decrease of equivalence ratio. Finally, it can be identified that the variations of vortical structure play an important role in combustion instability, even though the small change of equivalence ratio is occurred.
A model harbour with Plan scale of $1.08{\times}1.08m$ is built on a tidal tank using a Froude relationship from a real harbour($432{\times}432m$). Velocity components are measured by a ultrasonic velocity meter and flow structure is then predicted using a 2-D depth integrated hydrodynamic model. In the finite difference model implemented in this study, various wall boundary conditions, i.e. no-slip, free-slip, partial-slip and semi-slip are used to represent turbulent diffusion terms, e.g. ${\partial}^2U_{ij}/{\partial}x^2\;or\;{\partial}^2U_{ij}/{\partial}y^2$. These conditions are focused to investigate their influence on the flow structure along the wall and basin of the harbour with aspect ratio of unity, i.e. Length/Breadth. Numerical experiments are compared with the measurements and used to analyse flow patterns in the basin during tidal cycles. It is shown from the results that no-slip closed boundary condition is the most appropriate method with respect to the location of the eddy centre, although the condition underestimates velocity components along the wall.

In this paper, we study the structure of neural network for predicting defect size of steam generator tube. After extracting the features from the eddy current testing (ECT) signals, multi-layer neural networks are used to predict the defect size. In order to maximize the prediction performance for the defect size, we should carefully choose the structure of neural networks, especially the number of neurons in the hidden layer. In this paper, it is shown that, for the prediction of defect size, the number of neurons in the hidden layer can be efficiently determined by using cross-validation.

A large eddy simulation(LES) is performed for turbulent flow around a bluff body inside a sudden expansion cylinder chamber, a configuration which resembles a premixed gas turbine combustor. To promote turbulent mixing and to accommodate flame stability, a flame holder is installed inside the combustion chamber. The Smagorinsky model is employed and the calculated Reynolds number is 5,000 based on the bulk velocity and the diameter of the inlet pipe. The simulation code is constructed by using a general coordinate system based on the physical contravariant velocity components. The predicted turbulent statistics are evaluated by comparing them with the laser-doppler velocimetry (LDV) measurement data. The agreement of LES with the experimental data is shown to be satisfactory. Emphasis is placed on the time-dependent evolutions of turbulent vortical structure behind the flame holder. The numerical flow visualizations depict the behavior of large-scale vortices. The turbulent mixing process behind the flame holder is analyzed by visualizing the sectional views of vortical structure.

Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) has been applied to the Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS) data of turbulent channel flow. DWT splits the turbulent flow into two orthogonal parts, one corresponding to coherent structures and the other to incoherent background flow. The coherent structure is extracted from not vorticity field but velocity's since the channel flow is not isoropic. By comparing DWT's result of channel flow with that of isotropic flow, it is shown that coherent structure maintains the properties of original channel flow. The velocity field of coherent structures can be represented by few wavelet modes and that these modes are sufficient to reproduce the velocity probability density function (PDF) and the energy spectrum over the entire inertial range. The remaining incoherent background flow is homogeneous, has small amplitude, and is uncorrelated. These results are compared with those obtained for the same compression rate using large eddy simulation (LES) filtering. In contrast to the incoherent background flow of DWT, the LES subgrid scales have a much larger amplitude and are correlated, which makes their statistical modeling more difficult.

Numerical experiments of OAT (Ocean Acoustic Tomography) are carried out in the East Sea of Korea where the canonical ocean has been perturbed by a mesoscale warm eddy and a thermal front. In order to estimate the horizontal and vertical structure of water temperature of the perturbed ocean, the experimental area is divided into 16 cells with 8 pairs of sources and receivers for a horizontal slice and the water column is divided into 8 layers for a vertical slice. The inversely estimated temperature field by using SVD (Singular Value Decomposition) method reveals the eddy and frontal structure clearly. The rms errors of the two horizontal slices are less than $0.4^{\circ}C$ and $1.7^{\circ}C$ at 400 m and 200 m depths, respectively, while the error in the vertical slice is less than $1.0^{\circ}C.$ For better estimation of temperature by OAT method, particularly for the East Sea, a range-dependent ray model should be used to solve the forward problem. At the same time, improvement in computing the refracted ray path between vertical layers is required to obtain more accurate travel time information. The results of the present experiment give rise to a possibility of application of OAT in remote sensing of the ocean thermal structure.
The flow around a high-speed train with three underbody structures in the bogie area is numerically investigated using the improved delayed detached eddy simulation method. The vortex structure, pressure distribution, flow field structure, and unsteady velocity of the wake are analyzed by vortex identification criteria Q, frequency spectral analysis, empirical mode decomposition (EMD), and Hilbert spectral analysis. The results show that the structures of the bogie and its installation cabin reduce the momentum of fluid near the tail car, thus it is easy to induce flow separation and make the fluid no longer adhere to the side surface of the train, then forming vortices. Under the action of the vortices on the side of the tail car, the wake vortices have a trend of spanwise motion. But the deflector structure can prevent the separation on the side of the tail car. Besides, the bogie fairings do not affect the formation process and mechanism of the wake vortices, but the fairings prevent the low-speed fluid in the bogie installation cabin from flowing to the side of the train and reduce the number of the vortices in the wake region.
