평판전열면(平板傳熱面)에 충돌(衝突)하는 2차원충돌분류계(二次元衝突噴流系)의 열전달특성(熱傳達特性)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究) (A Study on the Heat Transfer Characteristics on Flat Plate Surface by Two-dimensional Impinging Air Jet)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the heat transfer characteristics and the flow structure in the case of rectangular air jet impinging vertically on the flat heating surface. The maximum value of Nusselt number at stagnation point is observed at H/B=10. It is found that this trend has been caused by the effect of stretching of large scale vortex in the stagnation region. For potential core region the Nusselt number distribution in the downstream of the stagnation point decreases gradually and begins to increase at about X/B=3. From the flow visualization it could be seen that small eddy produced from the nozzle edge grows in large scale and that large scale eddy disturbed the thermal boundary layer on the heating plate. The local average Nusselt number becomes maximum at X/B=0.5 regardless of H/B variation.

  • In order to investigate the stability of magneto-rheological fluid based squeeze film damper (MR-SFD), its negative stiffness effect, which arises from magnetization of MR-SFD, is identified theoretically and experimentally. The analytical model of MR-SFD includes the magnetic circuit as well as the displacement stiffness associated with the squeeze mode of MRF. Extensive experiments are carried out to measure the magnetic attraction forces generated in the MR-SFD, with the excitation frequency and the eccentricity of the journal varied, which are controlled by an active magnetic bearing. The simulation and experimental results are found to be in good agreement. It is concluded that the negative stiffness effect dominates only in the low frequency region because its effect diminishes in the high frequency region due to the eddy-current loss.

위성의 해색 영상과 해수면온도 영상을 활용한 재발생 와동류에 관한 연구 (A Recurring Eddy off the Korean Northest Coast Captured on Satellite Ocean Color and Sea Surface Temperature Imagery)

  • 동한 난류의 북상 끝부분 해역에서 재발생하는 와동류는 봄철과 가을철에 위성이 관측한 해수면 온도 영상에 나타났다. 이러한 재발생 와동류는 1997년 9월 하순 NOAA 위성에 탑재된 AVHRR의 열적외선 영상과 일본 ADEOS 위성에 탑재된 OCTS의 클로로필 영상에도 나타났다. 와동류의 중심은 주변보다 온도가 낮으며, OCTS 위성자료에서 3mg/m$^3$ 이상의 클로로필 농도가 나타났다. 반면, 와동류를 이루는 주변의 더운물에서는 클로로필 농도가 1mg/m$^3$ 이하로 나타났다. 와동류는 가을철 표면수온영상에도 나타났으며 봄에 나타난 것보다 와동류 중심핵의 찬물 온도가 높게 나타났다. 또한 와동류 중심에서 서쪽축의 더운물 온도가 봄에 나타난 것보다 가을에 더 높게 나타났다. 1998년 3월 NOAA 위성과 SeaWIFS 위성자료에서도 재발생되는 와동류와 클로로필량의 농도가 높은 물이 와동류 주변으로 포획되는 장면이 포착되었다. 동한난류의 북쪽 확장 선두와 약 1500m 수심의 대륙붕 위로 남하하는 리만한류가 만나 충돌하는 해역에서 와동류가 형성되는 것으로 사료된다. 와동류가 형성되는 이 해역은 동해 중앙부 해수면에서 우세하게 나타나는 극전선역에서 중규모 구조의 와동류가 극전선 서쪽 해역의 역학적인 해양현상과 강한 연관성이 있음을 나타내었다. ARGOS 위성 추적 표류부이와 와동류의 상호연관성 및 와동류의 지속성에 관한 증거가 토론되었다.

  • In this study, turbulent flows in a grooved channel are numerically investigated by Large Eddy Simulation (LES). Especially, a parametric study is carried out to study effects of length and depth of a groove on large-scale flow structures. For one test case, comparison of LES results with those of DNS reveals a good agreement even though the number of grid points of LES is only 6.5% of that of DNS. This confirms that LES is a suitable tool for a parametric study of turbulent flows. The subsequent parametric study using LES shows that the large-scale turbulent structures are significantly affected by the geometry of the groove. Especially, when the length of the groove is short such that the recirculation region occupies the entire groove, the turbulent flow in the groove becomes very weak in both mean and fluctuation quantities.

  • A large eddy simulation (LES) of a turbulent channel flow is performed by using the third order low-storage Runge-Kutta method in time and second order finite difference formulation in space with staggered grid at a Reynolds number, $Re_{\tau}=590$ based on the channel half width, ${\delta}$ and wall shear velocity, $u_{\tau}$. To reduce the calculation cost of LES, algebraic wall model (AWM) is applied to approximate the near-wall region. The computation is performed in a domain of $2{\pi}{\delta}{\times}2{\delta}{\times}{\pi}{\delta}$ with $32{\times}20{\times}32$ grid points. Standard Smagorinsky model is used for subgrid-scale (SGS) modeling. Essential turbulence statistics of the flow field are computed and compared with Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS) data and LES data using no wall model. Agreements as well as discrepancies are discussed. The flow structures in the computed flow field have also been discussed and compared with LES data using no wall model.

  • The unsteady-state, incompressible and three-dimensional large eddy simulation(LES) was carried out to analyze the structure of turbulent flow fields according to the operating loads of three-dimensional small-size axial fan(SSAF). LES shows the best prediction performance in comparison with any other Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes(RANS) method because static pressure coefficients analysed by LES show a little bit larger than measurements including all flow coefficients. Also, it can be known that the wake of SSAF is divided into from axial flow to radial flow before and behind stall region according to the increase of static pressure through LES analysis.

와전류를 이용한 반발식 추력 마그네틱 베어링의 시뮬레이션 (Simulation of Repulsive Type Thrust Magnetic Bearing using Eddy Current)

  • Most magnetic bearings are based on the attractive force between the magnets and ferrous materials. One of the disadvantages of such attractive type magnetic bearings is the instability so that an active control device is necessary to operate bearing successfully. In this study a repulsive type magnetic bearing is analyzed which uses eddy current as a force source. The load capacities are analyzed for the various gap sizes, the rotor velocities and the frequencies of current supplied to electromagnet. Analytic Results show that as the gap size decreases, the levitation and drag forces increase, while the number of poles increasqs, the drag force decreases in the higher linear velocity region. Experimental results show that as the gap size decreases the levitation and the drag force increase, and as the velocity of rotor increases, the drag is larger than the levitation force up to certain velocity. But after that, the levitation is larger than the drag force. As the frequency of the current increases the levitation and drag decreases while the thickness of rotor gets thicker the forces decrease because of increase in eddy current loss.

  • Induction heating is commonly used in process heating prior to metal working and in heat treationg, welding, and melting. For an analysis of induction heating system, it is necessary to calculate eddy currents in conductors induced by a source current. This study examines the use of the Impedance Boundary Condition for the reduction of the field problem encountered in the computation of eddy currents in non-magnetic and magnetic conductors with small penetration depths to a simpler exterior problem. The electric field intensities on the conductor surfaces computed by using the IBC are compared with the values obtained from the full region solution (i.e. without the use of IBC) and those agree well with the latter.

LES에 의한 원관 내 난류의 유동 해석 (Large Eddy Simulation of Turbulent Pipe Flow)

  • A large eddy simulation (LES) is performed for turbulent pipe flow. The simulation code is constructed by using a general coordinate system based on the physical contravariant velocity components. The effects of grid fineness which can be well prediction of turbulent behavior in near wall region is investigated. The subgrid scale turbulent models are applied and validated emphasis is placed on the flow details of turbulent pipe flow The calculated Reynolds number is 360 based on the wall shear velocity and the inlet pipe diameter. The predicted turbulent statistics are evaluated by comparing with the DNS data of turbulent pipe flow Performed by Eggels et al. The agreement of LES with DNS data is shown to be satisfactory. The proper grid fineness of the well prediction of turbulent pipe flow is suggested and the turbulent behavior is analyzed by depict the contour plot of fluctuating velocity components.

  • Large eddy simulation{LES) methodology used to model a bluff-body stabilized non-reacting flow. The LES solver was implemented on parallel computer consisting 16 processors. To verify the capability of LES code, the results was compared with that of Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes(RANS) using $k-{\epsilon}$ model as well as experimental data. The results showed that the LES and RANS qualitatively well predicted the experimental results, such as mean axial, radial velocities and turbulent kinetic energy. However, in the quantitative analysis, the LES showed a better prediction performance than RANS. Specially, the LES well described characteristics of the recirculation zones, such as air stagnation point and jet stagnation point. Finally, the unsteady phenomena on the Bluff-body, such as the transition of recirculation region and vorticity, was examined with LES methodology.
