울릉 난수성 Eddy와 해저지형과의 상호작용에 관한 수치모델 연구 (A Numerical Study on the Interaction of Ulleung Warm Eddy with Topography and Lateral Boundary)

  • 난수성 eddy의 운동에 있어서 경계면 마찰과 해저지형의 중요성을 연구하기 위하여 비선형 QG-모델이 사용되었다. 수직구조를 나타내는 유선함수의 경험적 직교함수는 순압과 제 1 경압 역학 함수를 표현한다. 이 모델은 10 km ${\times}$ 10 km의 격자간격을 지닌 1000 km ${\times}$ 1000 km으로 구성되어 있고 360일동안 시험하였다. 대한해협을 통한 유입량은 쓰가루해협을 통하여 빠져 나간다. 울릉분지내(평평한 해저지형)에서는 QG방정식의 비선형 이류항과 ${\beta}$-효과사이에 균형이 난수성 eddy를 북쪽으로 이동하게 한다. 대륙사면위에서의 난수성 eddy는 비선형항이 중요하게 작용하지만, 평평한 지형에서는 보조적인 역활을 한다. 해저지형이 변화하는 해역에서 난수성 eddy의 비선형항은 시간의 함수이다. 강한 eddy는 북쪽으로 이동한다. Eddy의 세기가 약해지면, 비선형항과 지형적인 베타효과항이 균형을 이루게 된다. Eddy의 분산과 함께 비선형성이 감소하므로서, 지형적 Rossby파 개념에 의하여 난수성 eddy는 대륙사면을 따라서 남하한다. 수치실험은 난수성 eddy의 운동에 미치는 경계면 마찰의 중요성을 확인하였다. 난수성 eddy의 북쪽 침투거리는 경계면 마찰계수의 감소로 증가하게 된다 아울러 Reynolds number의 감소로 북쪽이동을 방지할 수 있다. 또한 이 난수성 eddy운동과정에 있어서 해저지형이 중요한 역할을 하는 것이 제시되었다.

  • A conventional contact type brake system which uses a hydraulic system has mny Problems such as time delay response due to pressure build-up, brake pad wear due to contact movement, bulky size, and low braking performance in high speed region. As vehicle speed increases, a more powerful brake system is required to ensure vehicle safety and reliability. In this work, a contactless brake system of an eddy current type is proposed to overcome problems. Optimal torque control which minimizes a braking distance is investigated with a scaled-down model of an eddy current type brake. It is possible to realize optimal torque control when a maximum friction coefficient (or desired slip ratio) corresponding to road condition is maintained. Braking force analysis for a scaled-down model is done theoretically and experimentally compensated. To accomplish optimal torque control of an eddy current type brake system, a sliding mode control technique which is, one of the robust nonlinear control technique is developed. Robustness of the sliding mode controller is verified by investigating the braking performance when friction coefficient is varied. Simulation and experimental results will be presented to show that it has superior performance compared to the conventional method.

  • A shock absorber with magnetic effects is suggested for a lunar space-ship expected to launch in 2025. The device consists of a copper steel combined tube, two magnets, and a piston. The piston is designed to move a magnet through the tube when it is pushed by an external impact. While the magnet is moving in the tube, it generates the eddy current force with the copper part of the tube and it also makes the large friction force with the steel part of the tube. Beside, it gets resistive forces against its movement such as the magnetic force with a steel-ring at the first time of the movement and the repulsive force with a same pole opposed magnet at the end time of the movement. In this thesis, results of analyses and experiments of each force are represented and the expected performance of the electromagnetic shock absorber is drawn from the results.

  • Satellite infrared images were analyzed to study the distribution of eddies off the east coast of Korea from 1987 to 1991. Most of the eddies were filament-type and were generated near the fringe of the East Korea Warm Current (EKWC) flowing northward. Eddies having length of 20-40km and width of 10-20km were most abundant. The meso-scale eddies of 100-200km in diameter were found between Mukho and Wonsan Bay in almost all the images. There was no evidence for the consistent movement of eddies to a definite direction. The Ulleung Warm Eddy, although reported previously by the hydrographic data, could not be identified by the limited amount of infrared imagery.

대와류모사를 이용한 연기이동의 연구 I. 제연방식과 배기풍량 (A Study on Smoke Movement by Using Large Eddy Simulation I. Smoke Control Systems and Extraction Flowrate)

  • To evaluate the smoke control systems, the large eddy simulation turbulence model based Fire Dynamics Simulate was applied to a 2m $\times$ 2m $\times$ 2.4m room with an opening. The smoke removal rate was investigated for three different smoke control systems: ventilation, extraction and pressurization. When the opening was closed, the smoke removal rates of the smoke control systems were almost the same as expected. The pressurization system showed a lower smoke removal rate compared with the other two smoke control systems for the room with the opening, and hence the pressurization system might not be efficient for a place with large openings. It was shown that the lower extraction flowrate is, the longer time the ventilation system requires to remove smoke. From these results, the ventilation system is recommended for subway stations where several large openings exist.

  • The large eddy simulation based Fire Dynamics Simulator was utilized to investigate the effects of the size of an opening on smoke removal performance for the three smoke control systems-ventilation purge, and extraction. Three different opening sizes, $r_A$=1, 2, and 3 were investigated while the flow rate remained 0.75 $m^3/s$ at the inlet or outlet depending on the systems. Increase of the opening size did not give a significant difference in the smoke removal rate for the three smoke control systems, though the increasing opening size slightly improved smoke removal. The extraction system was shown the best smoke control system, and the purge system yielded low performance compared to the other two systems for all the different opening sizes.

인공위성 고도계 자료(1993-2017년)를 이용하여 탐지‧추적‧분류한 동해 중규모 소용돌이의 통계적 특성 (Statistical Characteristics of East Sea Mesoscale Eddies Detected, Tracked, and Grouped Using Satellite Altimeter Data from 1993 to 2017)

  • 활발한 중규모 변동성으로 인해 해양 환경과 순환의 극심한 변화를 초래하는 동해 전역에서 장기간(1993-2017년) 수집된 인공위성 고도계 자료와 2015-2017년 기간의 4차례 승선 조사로 수집된 현장 관측 자료를 분석하여 중규모 소용돌이의 통계적 특성을 규명하였다. 동해 전역에서 해당 기간 동안 총 1,008개의 중규모 소용돌이를 탐지 추적 정의하고, 이를 27개의 그룹으로 분류하여, 전체 평균 및 각 그룹별 평균 지속기간(L, 일), 진폭(H, m), 반경(R, km), 단위 면적당 강도(EI, $cm^2/s^2/km^2$), 타원율(e), 운동에너지(EKE, TJ), 가용위치에너지(APE, TJ) 및 전파 방향을 산출하였다. 인공위성 고도계 자료로부터 산출된 소용돌이의 중심, 경계, H 각각을 현장 관측 자료로부터 산출된 해당 수치와 비교하여 각각에 대한 불확실성을 중심 오차 2-10 km, 경계 오차 10-20 km, 진폭 오차 0.6-5.9 cm로 추정하였다. 정의된 모든 소용돌이들의 전기간 평균 L, H, R, EI, e, EKE, APE는 각각 $95{\pm}104$일, $3.5{\pm}1.5cm$, $39{\pm}6km$, $0.023{\pm}0.017cm^2/s^2/km^2$, $0.72{\pm}0.07$, $23{\pm}21TJ$, $588{\pm}250TJ$로서 대양에 비해 전반적으로 L이 짧고, H, R은 작으며, EI는 강하고, EKE는 낮게, APE는 높게 나타났다. 또, 대양에서와 같은 뚜렷한 서향 전파 특성을 보이지 않고, 대체로 해류를 따라 이동하는 특성을 보였다. 아극전선(subpolar front)을 기준으로 남부 소용돌이 그룹의 L, H, R, EI, EKE, APE가 북부 그룹에 비해 더 길고, 크고, 강하며, 높고, 평균 해류 방향으로 더 멀리 이동하는 특성을 보였다. 뿐만 아니라 특정 방향으로의 이동이 뚜렷하지 않은 4개 그룹들(Wonsan Warm Eddy, Wonsan Cold Eddy, Western Japan Basin Warm Eddy, Northern Subpolar Frontal Cold Eddy groups)과 상대적으로 크고, 강하며, 높은 H, EI, EKE, APE에도 불구하고 오래 지속되지 않는(짧은 L) 특성을 보이는 3개 그룹들(Yamato Coastal Warm Eddy, Central Yamato Warm Eddy, Eastern Japan Basin Coastal Warm Eddy groups)도 제시하였다. 인공위성 고도계만으로는 잘 탐지되기 어려운 작은 규모의 소용돌이가 존재하는 동해 북부 해역에서는 소용돌이 그룹이 정의되지 않았으며, 본 연구에서 제시된 동해 평균 소용돌이 특성치의 과대추정 가능성이 토의되었다. 본 연구를 통해 1) 기존에 비교적 잘 알려진 울릉 난수성 소용돌이(Ulleung Warm Eddy)와 독냉수성 소용돌이(Dok Cold Eddy) 그룹 외에도 Hokkaido Warm Eddy, Yamato Rise Warm Eddy와 같은 그룹들을 새로 정의하였고, 2) 대양의 중규모 소용돌이에 비해 전반적으로 그 L이 짧고, H, R은 작고, EKE는 낮으나, EI는 강하고, APE는 높으며, 서향 전파가 뚜렷하지 않은 동해의 중규모 소용돌이 특성을 규명했으며, 3) 동해 내에 그룹별로 상이한 중규모 소용돌이 그룹의 특성을 제시하였다.

A study of wind turbine power generation and turbine/tower interaction using large eddy simulation

  • Wind turbines are highly complex structures for numerical flow simulation. They normally comprise of a turbine mounted on a tower thus the movement of the turbine blades and the blade/tower interaction must be captured. In addition the ground effect should also be included. There are many more important features of wind turbines and it is difficult to include all of them. A simplified set of features is chosen here for both the turbine and the tower to show how the method can begin to identify the main points connected with wind turbine wake generation and tip vortex tower interaction. An approach to modelling the rotating blades of a turbine is proposed here. The model uses point forces based on blade element theory to model the blades and takes into account their time dependent motion. This means that local instantaneous velocities can be used as a basis for the blade element theory. The model is incorporated into a large eddy simulation code and, although many important features are left out of the model, the velocity/power performance relation is generally of the correct order of magnitude. Suggested improvements to the method are discussed.

Design and application of a novel eddy current damper for a high-rise sightseeing tower

  • A conventional tuned mass damper (TMD) provides a passive control option to suppress the structures' wind- or earthquake-induced vibrations. However, excessive displacements of the TMD raise concerns in the practical implementation. Therefore, this study proposes a novel TMD designed for and deployed on a high-rise sightseeing tower. The device consists of an integrated two-way slide rail mount and an eddy current damper (ECD) with a stroke control mechanism. This stroke control mechanism allows the damping coefficient to automatically increase when the stroke reaches a predetermined value, preventing excessive damper displacements during large earthquakes. The corresponding two-stage damping parameters are designed with a variable-thickness copper plate to enable the TMD stroke within a specified range. Thus, this study discusses the detailed design schemes of the device components in TMD. The designed two-stage damping parameters are also numerically verified, and the structural responses with/without the TMD are compared. As seen in the results, the proposed TMD yields effective control authority to limit the acceleration response within a comfort level. In addition, this TMD resolves the spatial availability for the damper movement in high-rise buildings by the controllable damping mechanism.

박판 맞대기 용접에서 전자기식 센서를 이용한 용접선 자동 추적 시스템에 관한 연구 (A Study on Automatic Seam Tracking System Using Electro-Magnetic Sensor for Sheet Metal Arc Welding of Butt Joints)

  • In this study, a magnetic sensor to make use of eddy current was developed to detect the weld seam of butt joint in the sheet metal arc welding. This system consist of the sensor device for detecting the weld line, the servo control device for driving the weld torch movement and the control unit. A signal processing was applied to smooth the output signal of the sensor. The weld joint was determined by using a 1st order differential method. To improve tracking accuracy of the system, moving average method which has an effect of proportional and weighted integral control was applied to a series of the weld joint positions obtained above. The weld line for tracking was generated by using data regeneration algorithm. Based on these results, each servo motor was controlled by pulse generator. From experimental results, it was revealed that this system has excellent detecting ability for weld line and seam tracking ability.
