Objective : The purpose of this study is to report the clinical effectiveness of herbal decoction(Samul-tang hap Soyo-san.) on whole body nummular eczema. Method : A patient suffering from nummular eczema received herbal decoction(Samul-tang hap Soyo-san), acupuncture, and electronic-moxibustion treatment. The effectiveness of treatment was evaluated by EASI, DLQI, photography and subjective evaluation of the patient's improvement of symptoms. Results : After treatment, eczema lesions were remarkably improved. Compared to its peak, EASI improved by 69% and DLQI by 53%. According to photo and symptom changes, purulent exudates were stopped and pruritus was decreased. Conclusion : This study suggests that Samul-tang hap Soyo-san could show effectiveness on nummular eczema.

Eczema is a general term for skin diseases showing itching, vessiculopapular eruption, and erythema when acute, or lichenification and scale if chronic. It is classified as irritant dermatitis, atopic dermatitis, seborrheic dermatitis, neurodermatitis, nummular eczema, statis dermatitis, infective dermatitis, xerotic eczema, and pompholyx by afflicted regions and symptoms. Therapy for eczema is allopathic, and includes application of ice- pack to erythema, and application of emollients and steroids to the affected parts during subacute or chronic stages. Eczema is understood as ulceration(瘡), tinea(癬), wind syndrome(風證), and dryness syndrome(燥證) in terms of oriental medicine. Xerotic eczema is understood in dryness syndrome. Nourishing blood(養血) therapy is used. This is a case study on which xerotic eczema occurred on a patient's afflicted left palm and fingers after stroke. The patient's xerotic eczema was attributed to dryness syndrome. Therefore, Samul-tang(四物湯) and Saenghyeoryunbu-eum(生血潤膚飮) were used for nourishing blood. This therapy was effective on eczema and accompanying symptoms such as dizziness and numbness of the left hand.

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to report the effectiveness of Sihochunggan-tang gagambang and Sunbangpaedok-tang gagambang in the five patients with nummular eczema.Methods: This case study was conducted for five nummular eczema patients who have visited Korean Medicine Clinic. Sihochunggan-tang gagambang Sunbangpaedok-tang gagambang was prescribed to all five patients and evaluated the symptom change through photographs and an assessment method. We used Visual Analogue Scale(VAS) as the assessment method.Results & Conclusions: After the treatment, the grade of VAS was decreased and most symptoms of five patients were improved. As a result of examining VAS scores and photographs, Sihochunggan-Tang gagambang and Sunbangpaedok-tang gagambang can be effective on the nummular eczema in five cases in our study.

Objective: The purpose of this study is to report the effectiveness of Sihochunggan-tang gagambang in the four patients with eczema ongroin, inner thigh.Methods: This case study was conducted for four groin, inner thigh eczema patients who have visited Korean Medicine Clinic. Sihochunggan-tang gagambang was prescribed to all four patients and evaluated the symptom change through photographs and two assessment methods. The assessment methods are Atopic Dermatitis Severity Index(ADSI) and Visual Analogue Scale(VAS). ADSI was used to evaluate the objective symptom change and VAS was used to evaluate the subjective symptom change.Results & Conclusion: The ADSI and VAS were decreased compared to the first in all four patients in our study. And most symptoms of four patients were improved. As a result of examining ADSI, VAS scores and photographs, Sihochunggan-tang gagambang can be effective on the groin, inner thigh eczema in four cases in our study.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report the effect of Bangpoongtongseong-san Gagam and Yukmijihwang-tang Gagam on whole-body xerotic eczema. Methods : We treated a 63-year-old male patient who has whole-body xerotic eczema by Korean medicine. He was treated from August 23rd, 2023 to November 22th, 2023. The treatment applied was acupuncture, pharmacopuncture and herbal medicine including 'Bangpoongtongseong-san Gagam' and 'Yukmijihwang-tang Gagam'. The evaluation was conducted by photo comparison, Visual Analogue Scale(VAS) and Dermatology Life Quality Index(DLQI). Results : After three months of treatment, the symptoms were disappeared. The itching and heat sensation decreased, and redness also disappeared. VAS of discomfort was decreased from 10 to 0. DLQI was also decreased. Conclusions : Bangpoongtongseong-san Gagam and Yukmijihwang-tang Gagam helped to relieve the itching and heat of whole-body xerotic eczema.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report the effect of paljin-tang gamibang on facial flushing and xerotic eczema. Methods : We treated a 72-year-old female elderly patient who has facial flushing and xerotic eczema by korean medicine. She was treated from December 13th, 2023 to February 28th, 2024. The treatment applied was acupuncture, pharmacopuncture, herbal ointment and herbal medicine including 'paljin-tang gamibang'. The severity of symptoms was evaluated by photo comparison, visual analogue scale(VAS) and dermatology life quality index(DLQI). Results : After 11 weeks of treatment, the patient's symptoms improved. VAS of pruritus changed 10 to 1, VAS of dryness changed 10 to 1, DLQI changed 25 to 3. Conclusions : This case study showed an effectiveness of Korean medicine treatment including paljin-tang gamibang treated on facial flushing and xerotic eczema.

Nummular eczema is well-shaped, coin-like lesion. Usually it is surrounded by the papules and vesicles, and is likely to be the impetigo. It's said that nummular eczema is combined with atopic dermititis, contact dermatitis, bacterial infection and so on. Recently, we experienced a nummular eczema with impetigo and that was successfully treated by the herb-medication and the ceramic resonance therapy. The medications taken by the patient were yunwhasagnatang and gamisopungsan which is used to treat allergic disease and make immune system be strong. The former effects the liver to be cool down and healthy and it also has anti-imflamatory reactions like the corticosteroid hormone. Ceramic resonance therapy utilises irradiation within the frequency range of the radiation emitted by the human body. So we report this case with a brief review of the oriental medical and medical literatures.

Introduction Hand eczema is dermatitis that occurs on the hand and fingers. In this case, the patient had chronic hand eczema that had relapsed for 3 years, worsened for 6 months, and did not improve even with standard dermatological treatment. We report significant improvement of the patient with chronic hand eczema, diagnosed with Soeunmin Greater Yin Symptomatology based on Sasang Constitutional Medicine. Methods We prescribed herbal medicine, Sibimigwanjung-tang(十二味寬中湯), and the western medications were continued throughout the treatment period. To evaluate the treatment progression, we observed objective and subjective symptoms and took pictures of the patient's hands. Results At the first time of the outpatient visit, the patient complained of pain, oozing, scaling and severe itching even though she had taken dermatological medication for over 6 months. After 8 weeks of Korean medicine treatment, most symptoms showed improvement, and after about 47 weeks of treatment, the symptoms maintained 90% improvement even after stopping western medications and herbal medications. Conclusion The patient in this case showed a significant improvement of chronic hand eczema and the improvements have been maintained even stopping western medications and herbal medications during follow-up for 15 weeks. In addition, the patient showed improvement and maintenance of general conditions as well as skin-related symptoms. In this case, we can concern the effect of the Sasang Constitutional Medicine focused on treating the patient's general pathology as well as the patient's chief complaint at chronic hand eczema not responding to standard dermatological treatment.

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to report the clinical effectiveness of oriental medicine on genital eczema. Methods: The Yongdamsagan-tang was used for relieving pruritus, skin flare and the other symptoms. The efficacy of treatment was evaluated with inspection and patient's report. Results: After treatments, the symptoms of genital and hand eczema were improved and the patient has not reoccurred. Conclusions: This case report shows that the herbal medication relieves the pruritus, skin flare and the other symptoms caused by genital eczema.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report the effect of Hwangryeonagyo-tang and Mahwangbujasesin-tang(《Shanghanlun》 prescription) on whole-body nummular eczema. Methods : We treated a female patient in her early twenties who has whole-body nummular eczema with Korean medicine. She was treated from 2020.10.8 to 2020.12.11. In this period, she received admission treatments twice because of the recurrence of the symptoms after the first admission. During the treatment, the two herbal medicines were changed depending on the patient's condition. 'Hwangryeonagyo-tang' and 'Mahwangbujasesin-tang' were used as herbal medicine. In addition, herbal external preparations and acupuncture treatment were also performed. The evaluation was conducted by photo comparison, VAS, and DLQI. Blood tests were also conducted for safety assessments. Results : After two months of treatment, the patient's condition improved. The itching and heat sensation decreased, and scabs were placed on the lesion of the eczema, reducing the oozing. VAS of itching decreased from 8 to 0. DLQI was also improved, and the stability of the herbal medicines for liver and kidney was also confirmed through blood tests. Conclusions : Hwangryeonagyo-tang and Mahwangbujasesin-tang helped relieve the itching and heat of eczema in currency. Therefore, it is believed that the proper use of thoes herbal medicine can be expected to have a useful effect on nummular eczema.
