  • This study was conducted to provide a foundation for housewife-consumer education programs appropriate in the information society. For this purpose, the authors reviewed existing literature, analysed consumer counseling cases, and conducted focus group interviews. The need for housewife-consumer education was illustrated, and desirable educational contents and methods were proposed. The existing housewife-consumer education programs did not work effectively because the contents were too general, and mostly structured with non-interactive one-way lectures. More effective programs should be designed to accomodate the educational purpose and contents which fitted with the specific needs of housewives as the representatives of the family consumer units. It should also take the family life cycle stages into consideration. The education programs would work better when they were oriented more toward actively participating, locally-based spontaneous small-groups.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effect of changes in child care technology on mother-child contact by using all sorts of literature such as diaries, documents or statistical data. Child care technologies began to change during the 1960's. Diverse goods and services such as baby dry milk, paper diapers and child care centers have made child care easier and saved a great deal of time. This has also allowed women to participate in labor markets easily despite rearing children. But maternal contact with children have declined due to new goods and services and this trend is especially prevalent in early childhood. It could be supported that the convenience of rearing rather than the needs of children like as attachment to maternity primarily was considered in technological change. From this results it was suggested that we should develop the alternative child care technologies which better reflect children's needs.

  • The purpose of this study was to revoke attention to the funeral costumes which has been neglected by academic fields and fashion industries. We investigated the traditional funeral garments by the literature reviews and the actual conditions by the questionnaire. For the data analysis, 525 questionnaires for male and female in Seoul, Daeagu, Jeonju and Busan were collected. Men mainly wore the western style black suits, women wore the traditional white funeral costumes during the funeral service. Most of the respondents were dissatisfied with the funeral garments. We investigated the styles, the materials and the colors of the funeral garments which were favored by the consumers. The preferences and the criteria of the funeral garments were different with sex, age, income, educational levels, religion and occupational status of husband partly.

  • The twenty eight taxa of rare and endangered plant species of Oesorak were investigated in the field, and the results were compiled according to the literature by Lee et al.(1996). Most of the populations of the investigated plants are located in the vicinity from the mountain trails which is the destruction pressures high. Also these plants are envisaged from the possible collections for both edible and medicinal purposes by local peoples, so the conservation strategies at the levels of habitat and species must be prepared. Taxuscaespitosa of Taxaceae has very few individuals and the status of the habitats envisaged serious problems from tramplings.

  • Today, interest in soundscape idea is growing according to recognize the surrounding sounds as design target and to introduce them into environmental spaces positively. The word "soundscape" proposed by Canadian composer R. Murray Schafer is now very popular in the world. So various soundscape designs based on soundscape idea are carried on worldwide for acoustic ecology. Also in Korea, several researchers are carrying on studies about the soundscape, but basic concepts behind soundscape design are insufficiently defined and studied. In that sense, this study aims to review and to arrange the concept of soundscape Idea and soundscape desgn systematically. Through investigation of literature concerning soundscape study, the backgrounds and characteristics about soundscape idea were reviewed and concepts of soundscape design were arranged.

  • A conceptual framework, based on a curriculum model of family life education content, and on a schema for analyzing explicit use of theory, was developed to discern the substantive themes of programs and the role of theories in publications on programs for families in the Korean family studies literature. Seventy two journal articles published between 1990 and 2002 were analyzed. The results revealed that the Korean family life education programs dealt with the breadth of topics, but most particularly internal family dynamics and interpersonal relationships, and utilized theoretical concepts as input and output in a different level: explicit, implicit, or no use of theories. Implications for future research and practice in Korean family life education are discussed, including gaps in the substantive foci of programs, and aligning programs more closely with theory.

By the method of literature review, we discuss about the housewives'social roles, their negative problems and the private and public efforts to solve the problems, and ultimate direction to the solutions. We find their four roles-Invisible labors In this capitalist society. consumers without any sovereignty, substitutes for incomplete social welfare system and agents to develop and sustain the social network. A few solutions which they have found out or the Korean society has devised are not enough. The utmost and ultimate solutions should include the housewives'autonomy. subjectivity and community.

  • Two species of Leycesteria, L. gracilis (Kurz) Airy Shaw and L. formosa Wall. (Caprifoliaceae), from the Lao Cai and Yen Bai Provinces are reported here as a new generic record for the flora of Vietnam. During floristic surveys of northern Vietnam, L. gracilis and L. Formosa were encountered. A critical morphological study of all the collected specimens and the type of materials consulting the relevant literature led us to confirm the identity of our collected specimens as L. gracilis and L. formosa. The genus differs from other Vietnamese genera of Caprifoliaceae by the presence of a spike inflorescence or flowers in sessile whorls of 6. Taxonomic notes, description, and photographs are provided, together with short notes on the distribution, ecology and phenology of the two species.

  • Addressing challenging behavior in young children with special needs is an important issue. This study analyzed the results of literature on parent-implemented behavioral interventions designed to manage the challenging behavior of children with developmental disabilities under 8 years of age. Seventeen relevant studies published in peer-reviewed English journals during the last 15 years were selected for review. The literature review showed that adequately trained parents can serve as a competent intervention agent, thereby making significant contributions to mitigating children's behavior problems. The reviewed studies also demonstrated that parents could play a variety of important roles such as informants and trainers in behavioral interventions. However, the conclusions on parent-implemented behavioral intervention may be tentative rather than conclusive due to previous research limitations including the lack of treatment integrity and social validity data. In addition, this review discussed several implications for practitioners, indicated the limitations of the reviewed studies, and presented suggestions for future research.
