Effect of Sheep and Chicken Antibodies to Rat Adipocytes Plasma Membranes on Rat Carcass Fat

  • Polyclonal anti-sera were collected from sheep and chicken immunized with adipocytes plasma membranes. Thirty two male wistar rats, weighing 185-215 grams, were divided randomly into 4 groups (trial 1: control group and treat group, trial 2: control group and treat group), with 8 rats in each group. The experiment lasted for 7 weeks. Trial one: The control group received four consecutive daily intraperitoneal injections of 1ml of sheep normal sera. The same 4 day daily dose of group sheep anti-rats sera adipocyte plasma membrane anti-sera was administered to the treat group. The results showed that the treatment for treat group increased body weight by 6.35% (p<0.05) and food intake by 6.85%, and improved food conversion efficiency (Food intake/gain) by 45.00% (p<0.05). Periernal, epididymal and omental adipose deposit weights were decreased by 23.92% (p<0.05), 34.45% (p<0.05) and 0.98% respectively, while total fat content decreased by 20.92%. Trial two: The control group received four consecutive daily intraperitoneal injections of 1 ml of chicken normal sera, the results of injections of chicken anti-rats sera adipocyte plasma membrane antis-era administered to the treat group indicated that chicken anti-rats adipocyte plasma membranes immunization had an disadvantageous effect on the growth of the wistar rats by the end of 7th wk, compared with the control group. The immunized group decreased in total weight by 40 gram (p<0.05) an averagely and in food intake noticeably (p<0.01). The deposition of fat and the rates of TG and FFA in serum had no statistical significance.

  • This study aims to identify the structure and system to make close relationship among planning elements, legal regulation and evaluation index toward sustainable development in the ecological housing estate. Through these close relationships the ecological housing estate could get more sustainability. With this consideration, this study consists of following three parts. First, we review the key issues of sustainability in ecological housing which are focused on the energy-efficient planning. Second, we extract the planning elements, legal regulation and evaluation index using the qualitative system dynamics that is found out all phenomenons from viewpoint of closed loop thinking and circular feedback system. Third, we analyse the correlationship among them in terms of energy efficient planning in the ecological housing estate. Finally, we summarize the findings toward sustainability in ecological housing estate through these analysis.

항공기 관제 디스플레이의 생태학적 인터페이스 디자인에 관한 연구 (Ecological Interface Design for Air Traffic Control Display)

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate an effect of the new air traffic control display designed by Ecological Interface Design [EID]. The methodology of EID has not been applied to the development of the air traffic control display so far. To design a new air traffic control display by EID, We implemented Work Domain Analysis about the air traffic control domain and made the Work Domain Model that consisted of the five levels of the Abstraction Hierarchy. We extracted the Information Requirement from the completed Work Domain Model and the extracted information requirements from the model were used to design the new air traffic control display. We evaluated an effect of the new air traffic control display designed by EID. Participants for evaluating consisted of 14 active military air traffic controller of the Republic of Korea Air Force. Experiment was designed two factors within subject. Factors manipulated in the experiment included displays type to compare the existing type with the new ecological interface type and included complexity to compare the effect of the high complex situation with the effect of the low complex situation. Response time about questions with relation to air traffic collision situation, accuracy, and subjective work load were measured. The results reveled that EID type's display has a significant effect on response time, accuracy, and subjective work load and verified that EID could be applied to the air traffic control domain that is more complex and dynamic.

  • Ecological Engineering (EE) refers to all sustainable engineering that can reduce damage to ecosystems and that adopts ecology as a base and safety as an orientation in order to implement conservation of biodiversity and sustainable development. In short, EE attempts to safeguard the ecological environment while any essential construction projects proceed. EE encompasses many fields, including construction skills, ecosystem preservation, landscape, and even related cultures and so on. Such variety results in greater complexity of construction, and, consequently, indirectly increases the difficulty of construction quality control. The objective of our research is to explore a promising model for EE via an extensive literature survey. This model includes three principal stages: plan-design, construction, and maintenance, along with individual accompanying phases concerned with quality control and vital management. In this article, a river restoration example is adopted to describe in detail the critical points of quality control in the three stages (plan-design, construction, and maintenance) of the construction life cycle. This study proposes an integrated structure for quality management of EE to guarantee its quality and to enhance its core applications in order to achieve long-lasting preservation of the environment.

Fertilization Effects on Understory Vegetation Biomass and Structure in Four Different Plantations

  • Biomass and species diversity of understory vegetation after fertilization were studied for 28-year-old Quercus acutissima plantation (MQA), 29-year-old Pinus densiflora plantation (MPD), 8-year-old Betula platyphylla var. japonica plantation after coal reclamation (YBP), and 4-year-old Pinus densiflora plantation after forest fire (YPD) in central Korea. Nitrogen + phosphorus + potassium (6:4:1) fertilizer was applied for 3 years from 2004. Thereafter photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) and understory species richness and diversity were measured in late July-early August 2006. PAR (${\mu}mol\;m^{-2}S^{-1}$) was higher at the fertilization treatment (100.9) than at the control (67.0) for MQA while was lower at the fertilization treatment (156.5) than at the control (268.7) for MPD. Total understory biomass (t $ha^{-1}$) was lower at the fertilization plot (1.8) than at the control plot (3.0) for YPD, however, there were no differences in biomass between fertilization and control plots for MQA, MPD and YBP. Total species number of understory vegetation was higher for fertilization than for control at MPD (47 vs. 45) and YPD (21 vs. 13), and was higher for mature plantations (33 vs. 37 for MQA and 47 vs. 45 for MPD) than for young plantations (16 vs. 16 for YBP and 21 vs. 13 for YPD). Species richness and diversity were higher at the fertilization treatment than at the control for MQA, YBP, and YPD while were lower at the fertilization treatment than at the control for MPD, however, the differences were not statistically significant. Our results indicate that there were no consistent patterns in light conditions, biomass and species richness and diversity of understory vegetation following fertilization. More detailed long-term studies with different fertilizer applications would be necessary to conclude the influence of fertilization on understory vegetation in the region.

Analysis of the Current Status of Data Repositories in the Field of Ecological Research

  • In this study, data repository information registered in re3data (re3data.org), a research data registry, was collected. Based on collected data, the current status was analyzed for 354 repositories (approximately 14% of total repositories) in the field using keywords in the ecological field suggested by two experts. Major metadata formats used to describe data in ecological research data repositories include Federal Geographic Data Committee Content Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata (FGDC/CSDGM), Dublin Core, ISO 19115, Ecological Metadata Language (EML), Directory Interchange Format (DIF), Darwin Core, Data Documentation Initiative (DDI), and DataCite Metadata Schema. The number of ecological repositories according to country is 102 in the US, 34 in Germany, 31 in Canada, and one in Korea. A total of 771 non-profit organizations and 12 for-profit organizations are involved in the construction of the ecological field research data repository. Data version control ratio of the ecological field research data repositories registered in re3data was analyzed to be somewhat higher (86.6%) than the total ratio (83.9%). Results of this study can be used to establish policies to build and operate a research data repository in the ecological field.

지구온난화와 환경요소인 광, 토양수분, 영양소가 상수리나무와 굴참나무의 생태 지위에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Global Warming and Environmental Factors of Light, Soil Moisture, and Nutrient Level on Ecological Niche of Quercus acutissima and Quercus variabilis)

  • 한반도의 참나무 중 수분과 유기물이 많은 입지에 분포하는 상수리나무와 수분이나 양분이 적은 척박한 건조지에 분포하는 굴참나무를 대상으로 대기 중의 $CO_2$ 농도와 기온이 상승하고 환경요소인 광, 토양수분, 영양소가 변화할 때 두 종의 생태 지위폭과 생태 지위 중복역에 가장 많은 영향을 미치는 요소가 어떤 것인지 알아보고자 하였다. 유리온실 내에서 대기 중의 $CO_2$ 농도를 그대로 반영한 대조구와 이보다 $CO_2$ 농도는 약 1.6배와 온도는 $2.2^{\circ}C$ 상승시킨 온난화처리구에서 유식물에 주요 환경요인 중 광, 토양수분과 영양소를 각각 4구배로 처리하여 두 종의 생태 지위폭과 생태 지위 중복역을 계산하였다. 그 결과, 상수리나무의 생태 지위폭은 대조구와 온난화처리구간에 통계적인 차이는 없었고, 굴참나무의 생태지위폭은 대조구에 비해 온난화처리구의 영양소 처리구에서 감소하였다. 상수리나무와 굴참나무의 생태 지위 중 복역은 대조구에 비해 온난화처리구의 토양수분과 영양소 처리구에서 감소하였다. 이러한 결과는 유식물을 대상으로 실험한 결과로 성측목에 적용하는 것은 한계가 있으나, 지구온난화가 진행됨에 따라 상수리나무와 굴참나무는 토양수분과 영양소 환경에 의한 경쟁이 약해질 것으로 유추할 수 있다. Cluster 분석과 PCA 분석 결과, 두 종은 $CO_2$ 농도 및 온도 증가에 의한 반응보다 광 환경에 따라 민감하게 반응하는 것으로 나타났다.

유아의 자연친화 교육프로그램이 자연친화적 지식 및 긍정적 태도에 미치는 효과 (The Effects of Nature Friendly Education Program on Preschooler's Ecological Knowledge and Positive Attitudes toward Nature)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a nature friendly education program that would support ecological literacy of preschool children and to examine the effects of the program on their ecological knowledge and positive attitudes toward nature. The subjects of the study were 59 children from two child-care centers located at Gyeonggi Province. 30 preschoolers from one center were allocated into an experimental group, while 29 preschoolers from the other center were regarded as the control group. The program was composed of 24 sessions, performed three times a week for 20-30 minutes from May to June 2009. The instrument included the knowledge and attitudes toward the environmental scale for preschool children. The following results were obtained. First, the experimental group was found to attain higher level of ecological knowledge and more positive attitudes about nature as a result of the program. Second, after the program was administrated, the experimental group showed higher level of the knowledge and more positive attitudes about nature than the control group. These results suggest a program which conducts within a integrated teaching frame of meeting and getting familiar with nature and taking care of animals and plants, can become an effective early childhood education tool which fosters positive attitudes and knowledge concerning the environment.

  • Recently, ecological area rate system become effective due to enlargement of recognition and high intellectual standard and for ecological circulation in urban areas. Ecological area rate system is to control environmental quality of life what has grown worse in urban districts and corresponds to purposes of green building certification criteria for environmentally sound and sustainable development. Therefore, purposes of this study are to present suggestions through research of theory and comparison between ecological area rate system and green building certification criteria.

생태공원에서 환경해설자의 교육적 효과 -길동자연생태공원을 대상으로- (The Environment Interpreter's the Educational Effects at Ecological Parks -In the Case of the Gil-Dong Ecological Park-)

  • The main purpose of this study is to analyze the differences of accompanying with environment interpreter in the ecological parks, and providing fundamental knowlege on the effective management method of the ecological parks by reviewing the effects of accompanying environmental parks in the ecological parks. We had done a field experimental design in the Gil-Dong ecological park, and evaluated the differences in the education effects, used types and satisfaction by the educational types - one is control groups, i.e., accompanying without environment interpreter and the other is treatment groups, ie., accompanying with environment interpreter through questionnaire survey and observation survey. The results of study are as follows; 1) In the respect of the effect of knowledge conveyance of the environmental interpreter, there appears higher educational effects of environment and ecology to the visitors of Gil-dong ecological park with an environment interpreter. 2) Accompanying with environment interpreter made the visitors reduce the depreciative behavior but no difference at environmental attitude and satisfaction. This results provide us the effectiveness of the environment interpreters. And more theoretical study is required in the future research.
