Woo-Suk Hwang Jong-Ha(友石, 黃宗河 1887-1952), Woo-Chung Hwang Sung-Ha (又淸, 黃成河, 1891-1965), Gook-In Hwang Kyung-Ha (菊人, 黃敬河, 1895-?) and Mi-San Hwang Yong-Ha(美山 黃庸河, 1899-?) were not only renowned writers and painters but also brothers spaced four years apart The Hwang brothers were not specially trained by educational institutions, but studied on their own, relying on picture books from China and the artpieces of masters. Even though brothers each born only four years from the next, they preferred different techniques, and the subjects they were proficient at drawing were all different to some extent: Tiger Painting by Hwang Jong-Ha, Finger Painting by Hwang Sung-Ha, Ginseng Painting by Hwang Kyung-Ha and Painting of Four Gracious Plants (plum, orchid, chrysanthemum, bamboo) by Hwang Yong-Ha are an example of this. They also showed differences in their manner of holding various exhibitions. They did, however, forge strong familial ties by holding the Exhibition by Four Brothers or by producing joint paintings. In particular, they established an art school called the Song-Do Society for the Research of Writings and Paintings in Gaesung, North Korea as a means to nurture young artists and to offer opportunities to introduce their own artwork. They were both friends and artists, as they spent their childhood together and share their thoughts and hobbies as well as their own individual and unique works of art. Moreover, they went the through ups and downs of Korean history from the end of the Joseon Dynasty through the Japanese occupation however, they strove to keep the tradition of Korean paintings alive, and even persevered in writing and drawing countless artwork with paper, brush and Chinese ink until the day they each died.
The present study examines some essays by Yi Seol (李?, 1850-1906; pen name Bogam), a government official at the end of the Joseon Dynasty. Written in Classical Chinese, the essays are contained in The Collected Essays of Bogam (Bogam munjib). The study begins with a brief review on the Yeonan Yi Clan to which the official's family belonged, and then on his personal life history. The study goes on to analyze the contents of Yi's essays, which are classified into two themes: 1) his affirmation of the contemporary idea that saw the world as divided into the Chinese and the Barbarians, which justified and reinforced his resistance against Japan; and 2) his views on how to regain social stability. Concerning the former theme, Yi asserts that Joseon should not betray Qing China and should purge his nation of Japanese influence. Naming Japan as the evil enemy of Joseon, Yi expresses his firm resistance against the neighboring nation. As for the latter theme, his essays put forth an array of suggestions on how to disband the Donghak rebels, who emerged at the end of Joseon, and how to restore people displaced in the aftermath of social uprising. Although the suggestions are mostly general ones, he repeatedly stresses the importance of social stability in some of his essays addressed to the king.
The purpose of this paper is to analyze the impact of distributors on the movie exhibition by distributor types. For the analysis, the concept 'screen elasticity of box office' is adopted. Using the weekly screening data of 94 hit movies released in Korea in 2014 and 2015, the panel analysis estimates the 'screen elasticity of box office' with the Hausman-Taylor estimator. The results show that the screen elasticity of box office is smaller for vertically integrated distributors(CJ E&M and Lotte Entertainment) and Hollywood distributors than the local distributors(Showbox and NEW) that do not own integrated cinemas. This means that exhibitors allocate a larger number of screens to vertically integrated distributors and Hollywood distributors. As the two distributor groups had higher market share during the period, the results imply that the screen elasticity is related to the market performance of distributors. Smaller screen elasticity of the vertically integrated distributors might be related not to the ownership to theaters but to higher market share of the distributors.
This paper aims to research the historical development of the archival systems in the Primorskii Krai of the Russian Federation. The history of the archives in this region might be divided into the three periods. The first period extended from the territorial acquisition of the Far East to 1938, when the international situation reached the crisis. From then to the end of the Second World War the history of the archives of the Primorskii Krai underwent the second period. The third period has ranged from 1945 to the present day. As the imperialistic countries, including England, Germany and Russia, claimed and conquered the lands in China in the last decade of the nineteenth century, the Russian government was forced to produce a lot of records, which resulted in the establishment of the several archival institutions in the Far East region. Although the Soviet government issued "Decree On the Reorganization and Centralization of Archival Affairs in the Russian Socialist Federated Soviet Republic" in 1918, the political turmoils prevented the Primorskii region from constructing the archival system. However, A. P. Georgievskii and his colleagues made desperate efforts to arrange the archival administration. Thanks to their struggles, the Far Eastern Republic, a buffer state, which existed from April 6, 1920 to November 14, 1922, passed the autonomous regulation, which defined the organization of the committee for the archival administration in the Primorskii region. The Primorskii Krai Archive originated from the committee. As the international situation became aggravated in the East Asia, the Soviet government made a decision to evacuate the records from the Far East region to the western Siberian cities like Tomsk, Omsk and Minusinsk. It was on August 1943 that the Central National Archive of the Far East of RSFSR was established in Tomsk. After the end of the Second World War, the main archival institutions of the Primorskii Krai, that is, the Central National Archive of the Far East of RSFSR and the Primoskii Krai Archive have played an important role in the archival administration in this region. The archivists have not only prepared the catalogues, but also proceeded the descriptions of the archival collections. Furthermore, the archival institutions of the Primorskii Krai have published a series of archives and contributed to the development of the archival system in the Far East of the Russian Federation. It might be concluded that the archives of the Primorskii Krai, reaching were the products of the desperate efforts which the archivists of this region made from the 19th century to the present day, regardless of the political changes.
Typhoons, torrential rainfall, and heavy snowfall cause catastrophic losses each year in the Republic of Korea. Therefore, if we can know the possibility of this phenomenon in advance through regular observations, it will be greatly beneficial to Korean society. Korea is surrounded by sea on its three sides, and the sea surface temperature (SST) directly or indirectly affects the development of typhoons, heavy rainfall, and heavy snowfall. Therefore, the characteristics of SST variability related to the high impact weather are investigated in this paper. The heavy rainfall in Korea was distributed around Seoul, Gyeonggi, and west and southern coast. The heavy snowfall occurred mainly in the eastern coastal (hereafter Youngdong Heavy Snow) and the southwestern region (hereafter Honam-type heavy snow). The SST variability was slightly different depending on the type and major occurrence regions of the high impact weather. When the torrential rain occurred, the SST variability was significantly increased in the regions extending to Jindo-Jeju island-Ieodo-Shanghai in China. When the heavy snow occurred, the SST variability has reduced in the southern sea of Jeju island, regardless of the type of heavy snowfall, whereas the SST variability has increased in the East Sea near $130^{\circ}E$ and $39^{\circ}N$. Areas with high SST variability are anticipated to be used as a basis for studying the atmospheric-oceanic interaction mechanism as well as for determining the background atmospheric aerosol observation area.
Sin-jeokdo (Hogye, 1574-1663) was a general of patriotic army who protected the region of Euseong at the time of Qing dynasty's invasion in 1627(Jungmyo) and 1636(Byongja). He was an prominent figure outside government as well as a faithful confucian who spent his life with reading and teaching junior scholars after disgraceful treaty in the year of Byongja. Hogye understood the neo-Confucianism in terms of the whole duty of men(綱常) and righteousness(義理) which was in the status of sole official academic subject and thought its practice only hinged upon the practice of filial piety and brotherly love together with loyalty and sincerity based on morals between sovereign and subject, father and son. He, therefore, emphasized that the righteousness only can be accomplished by dying of children and subjects for filial piety and fidelity respectively, at the time of commotion. This was his spirit of righteousness which repelled Japanese army in the Imjin War and he insisted on defeating Japanese army in accordance with this spirit. Hogye's practice of righteousness is grounded on the spirit of Chosun Confucianism which stressed actual practices of moral principles and duties. His practice of righteousness shows internalized cultural sinocentrism and moral-centric, ethic-centric characteristic of Chosun Confucianism. Moreover, the moral consciousness which was shown in Hogye's thought helped to keep Korean's pride and observe morality and it served itself as a basis of commencement of nationalistic military, religious movements afterwards.
The purpose of this paper is to examine the life and poetry of Hanchung. The reason for studying Hanchong is because there is no research on Hanchong until now. In Chapter 2, I looked at the life and poetry of Hanchung. One thing to pay attention to in the life of Hanchung is that Hanchung has excellent writing ability. When Hanchung went to the envoys in China, Hanchung was recognized for outstanding Chinese writing by Chinese officials. Another thing to pay attention to in the life of Hanchung is the upright character of Hanchung. Hanchung judged Nam-gon as a delicate person and did not live a life to cooperate with him. He vigorously rejected Namgon. Because of that, Hanchung was killed by Namgon. In Chapter 3, I examined the poems of Hanchung. The poem of Hanchung can be divided into three kinds. First, it reveals the love of the people. This comes from the heart of a child who pity the poor. Second, it is the mind to live while keeping the fidelity of life. This is reflected in the images of bamboo, pine and pine trees. Third, poetry criticizes reality. There are poems in Hanchung that reveal criticism of loneliness and reality. This is a political reality that is not right at the base. So, it can be said that it is a city that reveals the reality criticism after all.
Max Weber claimed that the clans as a self-sufficient community in traditional China had limited market development. His statement can be applied to the lineage groups of $Chos{\breve{o}}n$ dynasty, however, it also could be criticized as an example of oversimplifying clans. Starting from this question, in this article, I examined the lineage movement of the P'ap'yong Yun's Nojongp'a branch. Through this research, I tried to investigate the reality of the lineage group communities of $Chos{\breve{o}}n$. My issues are following. First, the Nojongp'a clan promoted the solidarity movement of their lineage in the name of practicing human morality, which belonged to their family learning. Second, the Nojongp'a clan made preparations for their own 'righteous rice fields and grains', through which they tried to establish the base structure for the clan activities. This, however, had its own limitations in aiding the starved suffering from famines and did not last long. Third, the lineage could not function as a community for living that was actively involved in the reproduction of life, and was not an exclusive self-sufficient community, either.
In this paper, I tried to examine the aspects of overcoming the aftermath of war through literary works. As history is continuously being reinterpreted and reevaluated, historical figures are described differently and given new meanings especially in the field of literature. It is not only important to examine these interpretations from previous generations themselves; it is also important to analyze them from a modern day perspective and look closely at their meanings. This research, by focusing on the post Manchu's invasion period, I examined the contemporary discussion. Literary works which were written in the post Manchu's invasion had different meaning comparing to the other time. Scholars at that time wanted to use historical figures as an allegory of temporary national situation. And this social phenomena was deeply related to the temporary discourses such like wipe off a disgrace by taking revenge on Qing (boksu $s{\breve{o}}lch^{prime}I$, 復讐雪恥) or loyalty to the Ming dynasty ($taemy{\breve{o}}ng$${\breve{u}}iri$, 對明義理). So that this research takes genre, time period, and nationality as the main variables to interpret typical historical figures and study their aspects.
The aim of this paper is to reject Graham's interpretation of bi (必) and xianzhi (先知) of Later Mohists' Mojing ("墨經") as logical necessity and a priori knowledge respectively. Graham's interpretations of them are based on his beliefs that Mojing distinguishes lun (論), the art of description from bian (辯), the art of inference in the Mohist disciplines and that the latter art should be seen as such a rigorous proof as Euclidean geometry even though it is not a Western formal logic. His beliefs also start from his distinguishing 'knowledge of names' from 'knowledge of conjunction of names and objects' according to the objects of knowledge. In my reading, the art of description and the art of inference, however, can't be sharply distinguished each other in Mojing and bi and xianzhi should be taken as suggesting both a normative necessity and an empirical necessity. A normative necessity is derived from 'normative theory of definition' which comes form the theory of rectification of names in China. The normative theory of definition, unlike the descriptive theory of definition, defines terms normatively rather than descriptively. For example, although such a definition of father, 'father is beneficient', has the form of being descriptive, but it actually is prescriptive and therefore means 'father should be beneficient'. Through this normative theory of definition, empirical knowledge, as long as it is a knowledge, is seen as necessary and so can't be wrong. To conclude, for Mohists an empirical knowledge is always a basis of an inferential knowledge or a priori knowledge, so Mohists' a priori knowledge is not really a fundamental knowledge and its necessity therefore is nothing but both a normative necessity and an empirical necessity.
