Ethics in the State-Owned Companies (SOC) in the public sector: A thin line between corporate governance and ethical leadership.

  • Ethics suggest that all persons are by nature moral, as it would not be possible for humans to exist collectively or even individually without an innate ethical sense. In order for the public sector to thrive in business, the board of directors needs to be guided by ethics and take into account the abiding interests of humanity and public good. It is argued in this paper that the abuse of power in the public sector has often been associated with unethical leadership and conducts which undermines the ubuntu notion. The irregularities which often arise in the awarding of tenders in the state-owned companies are some of the challenges that are prone to the public sector. In order to address these challenges and promote a flourishing democracy it is argued that ethical leadership as envisaged in the King III Report needs to be adhered to by the boards of directors. This paper concludes that the direction and control of ethics in any organisation is vital especially where the line between corporate governance and ethical leadership has become blurred.

  • The purpose of this study is to grasp the meaning of retro-fashion, to research the formative feature characteristic and aesthetic values. Retro-fashion is one of the expression of spatiotemporal-eclecticism, The formative of modern Retro-fashion are as follows: First, Retro-fashion based on spatiotemporal-eclecticism have been come from 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s style of time, and the asia, africa, middle east, latin America in region. Second, the design inspiration and technique is used more primitive crafts and decoration like handcrafted material, handmade ornaments as dyeing and embroidery of bohemian, jacqwuard pattern, oriental beads, applique, new hippie touch, patchwork, smocking, primitive button, woods, ethnic motives. Third, modern Retro-fashion is reflection of human feelings as nostalgia from the past, it supplies the sense of fashion creativity and new ideas.

Yeast Biomass Production from Concentrated Sugar Cane Stillage Using a Thermotolerant Candida rugosa

  • Concentrated Brazillian sugar cane stillage was used as a substrate for the yeast biomass production using Candida rugosa isolated from East Africa. At the optimum stillage concentration of 10% dry matter, biomass production was 20.4 g/l and COD reduction rate was 41%. The specific growth rate of the yeast was 0.17 $h^{-1}$ and the corresponding productivity 0.91 g $l{-1} h^{-1}$ in the batch fermentation was observed at $40{\circ}^C$.

The Growth, Effect of COD-Reduction, and Flocculation Characteristics of Candida rugosa in Sugar Beet Stillages

  • Yeast fermentation at $40^{\circ}C$ was conducted for microbial protein production and COD reduction in three different sugar beet stiIlages by a thermo- and acid-tolerant yeast Candida rugosa isolated from East Africa. The assimilation proceedings of some main components such as protein, carbohydrate, total titrable acids and glycerol in stillages were observed with growth kinetics of the yeast. Most of glycerol and organic acids were rapidly assimilated at the beginning of the fermentation. Protein assimilation was slowly accelerated with the proceeding of fermentation time and its assimilation rate reached only 14.2%-28.4%. Though Candida rugosa was a flocculent yeast, the flocculation characteristics of the yeasts grown in three stillages were different from each other.

Construction Delays in Developing Countries: A Review

  • Construction delay is one of the basic constrains to achieve the project objectives in developing countries. This study aims to find the causes and effects of construction delays in developing countries. A thorough literature review has been done following the content analysis method. The relevant literature of 28 developing countries was collected from the scholarly journals published in the period of 2006 to 2016. The different developing countries are grouped into three geographic regions, i.e. South and Southeast Asia, Middle East, and Africa. In these regions, total 53 potential causes of delay under 8 major groups are identified. Frequency and ranking of these factors have been done. The factors, delay in progress payment by owner, contractors' cash flow problem, improper planning and scheduling, poor site management, and change order by owner during construction, are acknowledged as critical causes of delay in developing countries. This study will assist both academic and professional experts providing more insight about the construction delays and project management in developing countries.

  • The bulk of the world's goat population is found in South-East Asia and Africa, where goats are the major source of meat production. Unfortunately, lack of an organized goat meat industry and marketing structure in developing countries is primarily responsible for their poor export earnings compared to those in developed countries such as Australia and New Zealand. Goat meat is leaner than meat from other domestic red meat species as well as being comparable in terms of its nutritional constituents. Furthermore, there are few, if any, religious or cultural taboos limiting the consumption of goat meat. Development of a carcass grading system and a suitable infrastructure in developing countries are some of the key requirements needed to establish a sustainable goat meat industry in the world. With an increase in demand by consumers for low-fat red meat alternatives, the future of the goat meat industry looks promising.

  • Far from being a recent world, the concept of "a [one] world" did slowly emerged in a post-prehistoric Antiquity. The actual knowledge of the world increased through millennia leaving aside large continents (Americas, part of Africa, Australia, etc.-most areas without written history), and writing history in Antiquity cannot be a synchronal presentation of the most ancient times of these areas. Through a few case studies dealing with texts, archaeology and history itself mostly in BCE times, the paper will try to perceive the slow building-up of a physical awareness and 'moral' consciousness of the known world by people of the Middle East (e.g. the Bible, Gilgamesh) and the Mediterranean (mainly Greeks).

  • Rye stillage was adopted as a substrate for the production of yeast biomass by a thermotolerant yeast Candida rugosa isolated from East Africa. In the batch fermentation, the yield of biomass and crude protein reached 4.9-8.4g/l and 2.2-3.5g/l, respectively, the rate of COD reduction was about 20%. Over 90% amount of main components such as glycerol and lactic acid were assimilated, but protein assimilation reached only to 38-45% of the initial content. Crude protein content of the dry yeast biomass produced was 42-47% and sulfur-containing amino acid was revealed as limiting essential amino acid.
