  • Pedogenic hematite is a well known agent for sink of pollutants and nutrients and for aggregation of particles in soils. Changes in physical and chemical properties of two sandy loam soils (Anahuac and Crowley soils) from the Southern Coastal Plain, the United States of America, were tested after adding finely ground crystalline hematite prepared for drilling fluid weighting material. There was an increase in hydraulic conductivity (HC) of the soils with addition of up to 3% by weight of hematite but a decrease in HC with addition of more hematite. The aggregate stability (AS) of the soils was not affected by adding hematite. Anahuac soil with higher content of organic matter and lower sodium adsorption ratio (SAR) had higher values of HC and AS than Crowley soil. Adding hematite also resulted in a slight increase in zinc (Zn) adsorption by the soils, but had no influence on the adsorption of phosphate.

  • Magnetic anomalies in the Dokdo and it's surroundings were investigated with respect to structure and origin of the Dokdo and surrounding seamounts. After normal and diurnal correction of measured magnetic data, crossover correction was applied to reduce errors between sets of magnetic anomalies. The errors from crossover operation result in decrease of about 51%, from 62.2 nT to 30.1 nT in standard deviation. Reduction-to-the-pole, second vertical derivative and analytic signal processing were applied to explore magnetic anomaly signatures in detail. Magnetic anomalies are most complicated in the 1st-Dok seamount, show SWW-NEE linear pattern in the 2nd-Dok seamount and lower to the 3rd-Dok seamount. Different magnetic anomaly patterns in three seamounts imply that three volcanic seamounts were formed at different times and are composed of rocks that were produced in different conditions. It seems that the 3rd-Dok seamount was first to form and followed by the 1st-Dok seamount. The complicated magnetic and second vertical derivative anomaly patterns in the 1st-Dok seamount may be due to subsidiary cones around crater or the presence of intruded magma bodies below sea surface and the Dokdo is probably a marginal subsidiary part of crater.

  • In the 21st century, both globalization and e-Transformation trends of business in China have been in progress simultaneously and very rapidly. Due to those phenomena, there is consequently big change not only in the field of political-economy but also in the cultural trend of the world. But, despite of the importance of mutual cooperation between Korea and China, the research about Chinese cyber culture is neglected relatively. The purpose of this study is to review the cyber cultural aspect of business between two countries, and to devise proper measures for cultural cooperation not only reengineering the role of two countries but developing mutual benefit in East Asia in the era of global competition. The methodology used in this study is basically depending on theoretical study. Major findings are as follows: China has some cyber-cultural characteristics like very big size of netizen, heaven on earth of counterfeit, deepening in digital divide, etc. And Chinese traditional off-line culture has changed as the cyber culture spreaded over in cyberspace recently. But, on the other hand, cultural trends are changed to homogeneity both in nation-side which is between Korea and China and in space-side which is between online and offline culture. It is recommended that Korea and China have to endeavor to understand mutual culture, and to utilize the cyber culture in the respect of business cooperation. Consequently, two countries should effort to prepare exchange program for both netizen group, to design culture-networking system, to strengthen cyber-cultural marketing, and to make good use of both Korean Cultural Wave(said Han-Ryu) and Chinese Cultural Wave(said Hwa-Ryu).

  • For more than a decade, NEA (Near-Earth Asteroid) survey teams equipped with 1 meter-class telescopes discovered thousands of NEAs in the northern sky. As of August 2011, some 8,200 NEAs have been cataloged, yet only five percent of them has been investigated for their physical and chemical properties. In order to improve current situation, we propose a deep ecliptic survey utilizing KMTNet, for detection and characterization of NEAs in the southern sky. Thanks to the wide-field capability (four square degrees) of the telescopes, we will be able to considerably expand the search volume carrying out precision photometry down to 21.5th magnitude. We plan to focus our survey on opposition and two "sweet spots" in the ecliptic belt. Since SDSS colors characterize mineralogical properties of NEAs, g', r', i', z' filters will be employed. Based on the round-the-clock observation, we will study their rotational properties; for multiple systems, mass, density and other physical parameters can be obtained. We plan to maintain a dedicated database of the physical and mineralogical properties of NEAs. With this archive, it is expected that our understanding on the population will see a drastic change. We also plan to participate in the GAIA Follow-Up Network for ground based observation of the Solar System Objects (GAIA-FUN-SSO). The follow- up astrometry will be performed upon alerts issued by the GAIA-FUN-SSO Central Node in France.

  • Abnormal change in Gyeongpo beach shoreline in June of 2012 was illustrated using DGPS (Differential Global Positioning System, resolution < 0.6m) observation and drift experiment. Abrupt change in the shoreline was occurred in the latter part of June, 2012, this change was compared with that in June from 2009 to 2011. In the northern part of the beach, sand accumulated and it made beach extension and movement of the shoreline towards sea compared with that in June from 2009 to 2011. While on the other, in the southern part, the beach was eroded and it formed a steep slope around the southernmost of the beach. The shoreline in the southern part of the beach was shifted more towards land than that in the past. Change in the position of shoreline was higher in the northernmost and southernmost of the beach compared with those in the other parts. Drift in the southern part of the beach moved faster along the beach than that in the northern part of it.

  • DEEP-South (Deep Ecliptic patrol of the Southern sky) is one of the secondary science projects of KMTNet (Korea Microlensing Telescope Network). The objective of this project is twofold, the physical characterization and the discovery of small Solar System bodies, focused on NEOs (Near Earth objects). In order to achieve the goals, we are implementing a software package to detect and report moving objects in the $18k{\times}18k$ mosaic CCD images of KMTNet. In this paper, we present preliminary results of the moving object detection experiments using the prototype MODP (Moving Object Detection Program). We utilize multiple images that are being taken at three KMTNet sites, towards the same target fields (TFs) obtained at different epochs. This prototype package employs existing softwares such as SExtractor (Source-Extracto) and SCAMP (Software for Calibrating Astrometry and Photometry); SExtractor generates catalogs, while SCAMP conducts precision astrometric calibration, then MODP determines if a point source is moving. We evaluated the astrometric accuracy and efficiency of the current version of MODP. The plan for upgrading MODP will also be mentioned.

  • We carried out photometric observations of Maria family asteroids during 134 nights spanning from July 2008 to May 2013, and derived synodic rotational periods for 51 objects including obtained periods of 34 asteroids for the first time. In this study, we found that there is a significant excess of fast and slow rotators. The one-sample Kolmogorov-Smirnov test confirms that the spin rate distribution is not consistent with the Maxwellian at a 92% confidence level. From the correlations between rotational period, amplitude of lightcurve, and size, we conclude that rotational properties of Maria family have been changed considerably by the non-gravitational force such as the Yarkovsky and the YORP effect. Using the lightcurve inversion method, we successfully determined the pole orientation for the 13 Maria members, and found the excess of prograde objects versus retrograde with a ratio ($N_p/N_r$) of 3. This implies that retrograde rotators could have been ejected by the 3:1 resonance to the inner Solar System since the generation of Maria family. We estimate that approximately 37 - 75 kilometer-sized Maria asteroids have entered to near-Earth space every 100 Myr.

  • The "Eco-friendly", "Green" concepts was began around 1992 after the Rio Environmental Summit, and the need for sustainable development globally widespread. The green building certification system was began around 2000 and the concept of green building was started in the late 1990s. The green building, which welcomes a period of radical change, is for the survival of the Earth "climate change" and reducing energy consumption in building sector. In this architecture of eco-friendly concept, the green building is rapidly expanding and existing as a ecological environment preservation. Moreover, the realization of zero energy house is to mandate for new buildings in 2025. The aim of further eco-friendly is through the prior ecosystems to restore and product energy for the 9 Green Building model houses in this paper. Building in the concept of ecology is to show about change into 7R's from the 3R's. The "Reduce", "Reuse", "Recycle" consisting of "3R's" is correlated with the traditional to the present Green Building Design. U.S. NCARB (National Council of Architectural Registration Boards) change into the concept of 7R's as "Receive", "Restore", "Respect" and "Remember", added to "3R's". In this paper, the 9 Green Building model houses do not meet the criteria of 7R's. But, the Green Tomorrow of Samsung C & T Corporation meet the 6 criteria for 7R's. This company is most comfortable at low carbon Green Building model houses. Conclusionally, introduction of eco-friendly technologies and amenities for the health of human and natural community life is to advance eco-friendly construction and enhance brand value of housing. By the way, The problem of eco-friendly architecture is initial investment and maintenance. Therefore, eco-friendly architecture and government has to try solving of this difficulty.

  • MIRIS, Multi-purpose Infra-Red Imaging System, is the main payload of STSAT-3 (Korea Science & Technology Satellite 3), which will be launched in the end of 2012 (the exact date to be determined) by a Russian Dnepr rocket. MIRIS consists of two camera systems, SOC (Space Observation Camera) and EOC (Earth Observation Camera). During a shock test for the flight model stability in the launching environment, some lenses of SOC EQM (Engineering Qualification Model) were broken. In order to resolve the lens failure, analyses for cause were performed with visual inspections for lenses and opto-mechanical parts. After modifications of SOC opto-mechanical parts, the shock test was performed again and passed. In this paper, we introduce the solution for lens safety and report the test results.

  • The DEEP-South (the Deep Ecliptic Patrol of the Southern Sky) photometric census of small Solar System bodies produces massive time-series data of variable, transient or moving objects as a by-product. To fully investigate unexplored variable phenomena, we present an application of multi-aperture photometry and FastBit indexing techniques for faster access to a portion of the DEEP-South year-one data. Our new pipeline is designed to perform automated point source detection, robust high-precision photometry and calibration of non-crowded fields which have overlap with previously surveyed areas. In this paper, we show some examples of catalog-based variability searches to find new variable stars and to recover targeted asteroids. We discover 21 new periodic variables with period ranging between 0.1 and 31 days, including four eclipsing binary systems (detached, over-contact, and ellipsoidal variables), one white dwarf/M dwarf pair candidate, and rotating variable stars. We also recover astrometry (< ${\pm}1-2$ arcsec level accuracy) and photometry of two targeted near-earth asteroids, 2006 DZ169 and 1996 SK, along with the small- (~0.12 mag) and relatively large-amplitude (~0.5 mag) variations of their dominant rotational signals in R-band.
