지구계와 환경문제에 대한 초등학교 과학영재학생들의 인식 (Gifted Elementary Students' Understandings about Earth Systems and Environmental Problems)

  • 이 연구의 목적은 지구계와 환경 문제에 대한 초등 영재학생들의 인식을 조사하는 것이다. 대학부설영재교육원 소속 28명의 초등학교 학생들을 대상으로 13개의 지구 환경 문제에 대한 지식수준, 심각성, 확실성, 체험 가능성에 관한 인식을 조사하였다. 학생들이 그린 지구 이미지를 분석하기 위하여 Draw-An-Earth Test 체크리스트를 개발하여 사용하였으며, 이미지를 구성하는 요소와 이미지에 담긴 의미를 분명하게 파악하기 위하여 인터뷰를 실시하였다. DAET 체크리스트와 인터뷰 분석 결과 지구계의 구성요소에서 80개, 지구계의 상호작용에서 11개, 지구계의 소양 영역에서 4개의 요소가 확인되었다. 학생들은 지식 수준과 관련하여 대기 오염, 지구온난화, 수질 오염에 가장 잘 알고 있다고 하였으며, 지구온난화, 대기오염, 수질 오염을 가장 심각한 문제라고 하였다. 또한 산성비, 대기 오염, 수질 오염에 대하여 확실성이 높게 나타났으며, 산성비, 대기오염, 산림파괴에 대하여 체험가능성이 높게 나타났다. 이 연구를 통하여 교수 학습 측면에서 초등 과학 영재들이 지구계와 환경문제에 대하여 어떻게 인식하고 있는지 이해할 수 있었다.

A Review of Teachers' Pedagogical Content Knowledge and Subject Matter Knowledge for Teaching Earth System Concepts

  • During the last three decades, earth science has been re-conceptualized as an interdisciplinary discipline entitled Earth System Science (ESS), which is based on knowledge of the physical earth system and human impact on the earth. While there is increasing effort to teach earth as a system in K-12 education, teachers' preparedness of to teach earth system is still in its infancy. This article focuses on reviewing the literature of teachers' knowledge of earth systems and of how teachers' knowledge of subject matter affects their teaching practice and pedagogical content knowledge (PCK). First, the study investigated a literature of PCK in general as well as in science teaching. Then this study duscuss what teachers' subject matter knowledge (SMK) is and what it means to be in teaching earth system science. Third, a literature of teachers' knowledge of earth system was reviewed. Finally, a number of suggestions and implications are made as to what teacher education program should do to better prepare future teachers to teach earth systems.

야외지질답사 보고서에 나타난 과학영재학생들의 지구계 이해와 지구계 의미 생성 탐색 (Investigating Science-Talented Students' Understandings and Meaning Generation about the Earth Systems Based on Their Geological Field Trip Reports)

  • 이 연구의 목적은 과학 영재학생들이 작성한 지질답사 보고서를 분석하여 학생들의 지구계 이해정도와 지구계 의미 생성 방법을 탐색하는 것이다. 이 연구의 분석에 사용된 보고서는 시화호 지질 답사에 참여했던 8학년 과학영재 학생 20명의 보고서 중에서 8개(남 4, 여 4)를 선정한 것이다. 시화호 지질 답사는 학생들이 더욱 유의미한 야외 경험을 할 수 있도록 준비, 지질답사, 정리의 세 단계로 진행되었다. 보고서 분석에 사용한 틀은 Seven Earth Systems Understanding(Mayer, 1991)와 Thematic types(Keys, 1999)이었다. 분석 결과 대부분의 학생들의 지질답사 보고서에서 지구계 이해의 가장 구별 되는 특징인 지구를 감상하고 지구의 소중함을 느끼는 등의 지구적 소양을 상당히 반영하고 있었으며, 지구계 의미생성을 위해 의미 강화, 의미 연장, 의미 정교화 등을 사용하여 의미 확장을 시도하고 있었다. 종합적으로, 일부 학생들은 관찰한 것을 개념화 하는데 있어 해석적 혹은 추론적 문장을 사용하는 등 높은 수준의 글쓰기 형태인 '지식 변형'(knowledge-transforming)을 보였으며, 대부분의 학생들은 관찰적 혹은 사실적/한정적인 문장을 사용하는 초보적 글쓰기 형태인 '지식 이야기'(knowledge-telling)의 특성을 보여주었다.

국내 지반조건을 고려한 흙막이 백제에 작용하는 토압 (The Lateral Earth Pressure on Braced Cut Walls Considering Subsoil Condition in Korea)

  • It is well recognized that accurate analysis of lateral earth pressure is very signficant factor which determines the design amount of braced cut walls and braced systems. Many researchers, Peck, Terzaghi-Peck and so on, make a study about lateral earth pressure to act on the flexible walls. But these studies trouble accurate to multy layered systems like inland areas in Korea. This study is compared with the field messurement data to estimate the earth pressure distributions in multy layered areas and the empirical earth pressure distributions. The conclusions are as follows : At final excavation depth, the lateral earth pressure which messured by field instrument is smaller than the empirical earth pressure. (About 1.85~5.32 times). In the case of considering the soft rock layer to the final excavation depth, the messured earth pressure is safe to be compared with empirical earth pressure. The messured earth pressure distributions are like that the upper soil layer is small the middle soil layer is large, the rock mass layer is very small.

  • ShadowCam is a National Aeronautics and Space Administration Advanced Exploration Systems funded instrument hosted onboard the Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) Korea Pathfinder Lunar Orbiter (KPLO) satellite. By collecting high-resolution images of permanently shadowed regions (PSRs), ShadowCam will provide critical information about the distribution and accessibility of water ice and other volatiles at spatial scales (1.7 m/pixel) required to mitigate risks and maximize the results of future exploration activities. The PSRs never see direct sunlight and are illuminated only by light reflected from nearby topographic highs. Since secondary illumination is very dim, ShadowCam was designed to be over 200 times more sensitive than previous imagers like the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Camera Narrow Angle Camera (LROC NAC). ShadowCam images thus allow for unprecedented views into the shadows, but saturate while imaging sunlit terrain.

Improvement of Demagnetization by Rotor Structure of IPMSM with Dy-free Rare-Earth Magnet

  • Permanent magnet (PM) motors that employ rare-earth magnets containing dysprosium (Dy) are used in electric and hybrid electric vehicles. However, it is desirable to reduce the amount of Dy used since it is expensive. This study investigates the rotor structure of a PM synchronous motor with a Dy-free rare-earth magnet. Flux barrier shapes and PM thicknesses that enhance the irreversible demagnetization are investigated. In addition, a rotor structure that improves the irreversible demagnetization is proposed. We demonstrate that the proposed rotor structure without Dy improves the irreversible demagnetization.

Estimation of kernel function using the measured apparent earth resistivity

  • In this paper, we propose a method to derive the kernel function directly from the measured apparent earth resistivity. At this time, the kernel function is obtained through the process of solving a nonlinear system. Nonlinear systems with many variables are difficult to solve. This paper also introduces a method for converting nonlinear derived systems to linear systems. The kernel function is a function of the depth and resistance of the Earth's layer. Being able to derive an accurate kernel function means that we can estimate the earth parameters i.e. layer depth and resistivity. We also use various Earth models as simulation examples to validate the proposed method.

Implementation and Validation of Earth Acquisition Algorithm for Communication, Ocean and Meteorological Satellite

  • Earth acquisition is to solve when earth can be visible from satellite after Sun acquisition during launch and early operation period or on-station satellite anomaly. In this paper, the algorithm and test result of the Communication, Ocean and Meteorological Satellite (COMS) Earth acquisition are presented in case of on-station satellite anomaly status. The algorithms for the calculation of Earth-pointing attitude control parameters including those attitude direction vector, rotation matrix, and maneuver time and duration are based on COMS configuration (Eurostar 3000 bus). The coordinate system uses the reference initial frame. The constraint calculating available time-slot to perform the earth acquisition considers eclipse, angular separation, solar local time, and infra-red earth sensor blinding conditions. The results of Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) are compared with that of the Astrium software to validate the implemented ETRI software.
