  • This research aims to examine the model of investor herding behavior in making investment decisions in the Indonesian capital market, which is influenced by social and information impacting on the value of the Book Value Per Share (BVPS). The latest stock market conditions show that most investors make the same error pattern in making investment decisions that result in losses. The experiment involves two independent variables, namely, information about BVPS and social influence. This study used a 2×2 factorial design laboratory experimental method. Data collection was carried out through treatment of a sample of 100 individual investors listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. Univariate Two-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) statistical tool was used to test the independent variable on the dependent variable. Research results showed that the social influence originating from expert investors is more influential than the Book Value Per Share (BVPS) information on the behavior of herding investors in making investment decisions. These findings suggest that investors know their psychological factors, thereby increasing self-control and investment analysis skills. Further research can use psychological bias and other indicators of accounting relevant information such as Earning Per Share (EPS) to test herding behavior in investment decision making in the capital market.

  • This paper studies the behaviour of stock prices on the ex-dividend day in the Korean stock market. Since a majority of listed Korean firms are December firms whose fiscal year end in December and whose ex-dividend day falls on the same calendar day in the year, we use stock prices of Non-December firms to estimate the general stock price movements not related to cash dividends. We estimate excess returns on days around the ex-dividend day. Our major findings are (a) there is no tax clientele effect in Korea, (b) the opening price stock prices fell by the amount of the current cash dividend per share until 2001, but it does not fall as much as the current dividend per share since 2001. Furthermore, in contrast to the U.S. and the Japanese findings, (c) stocks earned negative excess returns on the ex-dividend day until 2001, after which all stocks are earning positive excess returns on the ex-dividend day, and (d) the closing stock price on the ex-dividend day that used to be even higher than the cum-dividend price until 2001 is lower than the opening stock price since 2001. The evidence suggests a structural break has happened around the year 2001.

  • Since the adoption of K-IFRS(Korean International Financial Reporting Standards), the amount of financial footnotes has been increased. However, due to the stereotypical phrase and the lack of conciseness, deriving the core information from footnotes is not really easy yet. To propose a solution for this problem, this study tried financial footnote analysis for financial ratio predictions based on text-mining techniques. Using the financial statements data from 2013 to 2018, we tried to predict the earning per share (EPS) of the following quarter. We found that measured prediction errors were significantly reduced when text-mined footnotes data were jointly used. We believe this result came from the fact that discretionary financial figures, which were hardly predicted with quantitative financial data, were more correlated with footnotes texts.

  • This study aims to examine and analyze the effect of Risk Profile, Good Corporate Governance (GCG), Earnings, Capital (RGEC), and Earnings per Share (EPS) on stock prices with financial distress as an intervening variable. The sampling technique used purposive sampling based on certain criteria and data used was secondary data, that is, annual reports of commercial banks in Indonesia for the period of 2012-2018 with a sample of 23 banks from a total population of 81 banks. This type of research is explanative with a quantitative descriptive approach to describe or explain quantitative data. The data obtained was analyzed using SEM (Structural Equation Model) with the AMOS Program. The results showed that RGEC, EPS, and financial distress affect stock prices. This is based on testing the direct effect as indicated by a p-value that is smaller than 0.05. Based on the mediation test, the results show that financial distress cannot mediate the effect of RGEC and EPS on stock prices as indicated by a p-value greater than 0.05. The implication of this research is very important for investors to analyze stock price changes based on RGEC, EPS, and financial distress to gain profits. In addition, there are various warning signs indicating that a company is experiencing financial distress or it is heading towards such a state. Being aware of these signs can help prevent failure.

  • Stock price multiple is one of the most well-known equity valuation technique used to forecast equity price. It measures by multiplying "the ratio of stock price to a value driver" by a value driver. The value driver can be earning per share (EPS), sales or other financial measurements. The objective of price multiple technique is to evaluate the value of assets and compare how similar assets are priced in the market. Although stock price multiple technique is common in financial filed, studies on the application of the technique in Thailand is still limited. The present study is conducted to serve three major objectives. The first objective is to apply the technique to measure value of firms in banking sector in the Stock Exchange of Thailand. The second objective is to develop composite price multiple index to forecast equity prices. The third objective is to compare valuation accuracy of different value drivers of price multiple (i.e. EPS, Earnings Growth, Earnings Before Interest Taxes Depreciation and Amortization, Sales, Book Value and Composite Index) in forecasting equity prices. Results indicated that EPS is the most accurate value drivers of price multiple used to forecast equity price of firms in baking sector.
