Manure recycle is an emerging issue in agriculture in Korea these days. Farmers are keeping eye on legume mixture with grasses for nitrogen fixation and transfer to companion crops by legumes. We had a trial to investigate the effect of different legume mixtures on nitrogen fixation and transfer in spring soil. The treatment was arranged in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Three different mixtures were used(rye+hairy vetch, Italian ryegrass+crimson clover, oat+pea) and sowed in pots with paddy soil from western part of Korea(Seo Chon County). Pots with rye+vetch were transplanted from field of RDA(rural development administration) in Suwon on 2 February 2007 and other mixture treatments were sowed on early March with different sowing rate(7:3=Italian:crimson, 6:4=oat:pea). $(^{15}NH_4)_2SO_4$ solution at. $99.8\;atom%^{15}N$ was applied to the each pot at the rate of $2kg\;N\;ha^{-1}$. Application was done on 6 April at rye+vetch pots and remainder were applied on April 16. Forage were harvested from each pot at ground level in heading stage and separated into legume and grass. Total N content and $^{15}N$ value were determined using a continuous flow stable isotope ratio mass spectrometry. DM yield of rye+vetch, Italian+crimson and oat+pea were 6,607, 3,213 and 4,312 kg/ha, respectively. Proportion of N from fixation was 0.73(rye+vetch), 0.42(Italian+crimson) and 0.93(oat+pea). The percentages of N transfer from legume to grass were from 61% to 24% in different method by treatment and -35% to 21% in isotope dilution method.

An eruption failure can be observed for child and adolescent periods when the primary dentition is changed to the permanent dentition through the mixed dentition frequently. The eruption failure can lead to miss erupting times of the tooth, then it will cause a lot of problems including root resorption, esthetic problem, transposition of adjacent tooth, malocclusoin and etc. Especially, the maxillary first molar is importantly concerned with occlusion and growth and is an essential tooth for development and maintenance of occlusion. So, it is a momentous part of more proper occlusal management to find these abnormal cases at the early stage and solve the problems. The sorts of eruption failures of the maxillary first molars can be divided into delayed eruption, impaction and the primary retention and the secondary retention. When physical obstacles cause impaction, first of all they must be removed then we can treat the impaction with observation after removal, surgical exposure or orthodontic traction. If the source of impaction is an ectopic eruption, the treatment can be a brasswire, a pendulum appliance, a space maintainer or space regainer after the extraction of the second deciduous tooth and etc. These cases are made a diagnosis of eruption failures of the maxillary first molars in mixed dentition period and have good prognosises after my treatments. So I reported them.

Osteosarcoma in patients older than 40 years are rare, however they have different clinical, radiological and pathological features from those of younger patients. Sometimes accurate histologic diagnosis is not easy, which is important in determining the correct surgical treatment and appropriate chemotherapy. Since January 1995, 11 patients with osteosarcoma occurring in patients older than 40 years have been diagnosed, treated and followed up for more than 6 months. In contrast to osteosarcoma in children and adolescents, only 4 cases(36.4%) were conventional types, while the others included 2 malignant fibrous histiocytoma-like types, 2 small cell types, 2 periosteal osteosarcomas and 1 giant cell-rich type. Seven cases showed purely osteolytic or predominantly osteolytic bony lesions and 8 were in Enneking stage IIB. Performed surgical treatments included 2 amputations, 6 wide resections and reconstructions, and one curettage and autogenous bone graft. In the remaining 2 cases, definitive surgical treatments included not carried out because of old age, multifocal involvement or poor medical tolerance. Neoadjuvant and adjuvant chemotherapies were performed in 9 of 11 patients. At last follow-up, there were 6 continuously disease-free survivals, 3 alive with diseases and 2 died of diseases. The overall cumulative 4-year survival rate calculated using Kaplan-Meier's productlimit method was 59.3%. For improved oncologic outcomes and survivals, early and accurate diagnosis, surgical treatment with adequate margin and neoadjuvant and adjuvant chemotherapy will be necessary.
Objectives: Advancements in nanotechnology have led to nanoparticle (NP) use in various fields of medicine. Although the potential of NPs is promising, the lack of documented evidence on the toxicological effects of NPs is concerning. A few studies have documented that homeopathy uses NPs. Unfortunately, very few sound scientific studies have explored the toxic effects of homeopathic drugs. Citing this lack of high-quality scientific evidence, regulatory agencies have been reluctant to endorse homeopathic treatment as an alternative or adjunct treatment. This study aimed to enhance our insight into the impact of commercially-available homeopathic drugs, to study the presence of NPs in those drugs and any deleterious effects they might have, and to determine the distribution pattern of NPs in zebrafish embryos (Danio rerio). Methods: Homeopathic dilutions were studied using high-resolution transmission electron microscopy with selected area electron diffraction (SAED). For the toxicity assessment on Zebrafish, embryos were exposed to a test solution from 4 - 6 hours post-fertilization, and embryos/larvae were assessed up to 5 days post-fertilization (dpf ) for viability and morphology. Toxicity was recorded in terms of mortality, hatching delay, phenotypic defects and metal accumulation. Around 5 dpf was found to be the optimum developmental stage for evaluation. Results: The present study aimed to conclusively prove the presence of NPs in all high dilutions of homeopathic drugs. Embryonic zebrafish were exposed to three homeopathic drugs with two potencies (30CH, 200CH) during early embryogenesis. The resulting morphological and cellular responses were observed. Exposure to these potencies produced no visibly significant malformations, pericardial edema, and mortality and no necrotic and apoptotic cellular death. Conclusion: Our findings clearly demonstrate that no toxic effects were observed for these three homeopathic drugs at the potencies and exposure times used in this study. The embryonic zebrafish model is recommended as a well-established method for rapidly assessing the toxicity of homeopathic drugs.

This experiment was designed to find out the effects of soil conditioner, Polyacrylamide (PAM) and Bitumen, on the changes of soil aggregate properties and crop yields. The soil conditioners were treated at the rates of 0.5% and 1% to sandy loam and silty clay loam soils. The aggregate stability, wetting angle, mean weight diameter and air permeability were analyzed. Pot experiments were carried out to investigate the soybean growths and soil property changes after the soil conditioners were sprayed to surface soils. Soil aggregate stability was increased remarkably by the soil conditioner, PAM and Bitumen, treatments. PAM was more effective in sandy loam than silty clay loam, but Bitumen was better in silty clay loam. Wetting angle of the soil was changed slightly by PAM treatment, but it was greatly changed to hydrophobic by Bitumen treatment. Air permeability, water infiltration rate and moisture retention of the soils were increased by surface application of soil conditioners, PAM and Bitumen. The growths of soybean in conditioner applicated pots were better than those of untreated pots from early stage, and the yields were increased 6-13%.

This experiment was conducted to investigate biological activity of ABA and its analogues on barley shoot growth and peroxidase activity in barley seedlings. The treatments of 3.2 ppm (+)-ABA, 1.2 ppm (S)-(+)-ABA, 0.6 ppm ABA-methyl cinnamate ester compound (AC), and 0.08 ppm ABA-umbelliferone ester compound (AU) inhibited the growth of barley seedlings by more than 80% as compared with untreated control. The increase in barley shoot-inhibit activity of (S)-(+)-ABA became 3-fold than the activity of racemic ABA, and those of AC and AU higher than that of (S)-(+)-ABA by about 2.5 and 16 times, respectively. Peroxidase activities of barley shoots during the early growth stage were kept at a constant levels without ABA treatment, but in the treatment of racemic ABA, (S)-(+)-ABA, AC and AU increased the activities. Furthermore, the peroxidase activities increased as the higher concentration of ABA and its analogues were applied.
A study on conservation of outdoor painted sculptures has begun to receive attention as increasing numbers of the sculptures, but it is still in an early stage in South Korea. In the case of a painted outdoor object which has been exhibited in National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA), 'Black nana' produced by Niki de Saint Phalle in 1964, deterioration was observed, such as flaking and discolouration of paint layers due to ultraviolet light and a sudden temperature change during an outdoor exhibition. For this reason, prior to treatment of the sculpture, to find out the painting techniques and materials applied, cross section, FT-IR, Raman and Py-GC/Mass were conducted. As a result, the type and colour of the paint agree with results of the other studies as well as deterioration pattern. It is expected that the results of this study will be utilized for treatment proposal and conservation material selection of 'Black nana'. In addition, to determine the artist's intention of the artist, cooperation with the foundation of Niki de Saint Phalle and artist's assistants will be carried out.
The exposure of Clamydomonas reinhardtii to low temperatures resulted in an accumulation of cellular pyruvate that dissipated when the chilled cells returned to ambient temperature. The dissipation of pyruvate accumulation was accompanied by an increase in the production level of superoxide radicals $(O_2^-)$ in cells. The formation of $O_2^-$ at an excessive level during the post-chilling period was apparently countered by a substantial activation of superoxide dismutase (SOD). All these results are similar to those observed previously in rice seedlings subjected to the cold-treatment, implicating that a common mechanism is probably underlying for the primary processes of chilling injury both in higher plants and in algae. It was also observed that the activation of Mn-containing SOD contributes the major share in the increase of SOD activity of whole algal cells. Because Mn-SOD is present only in mitochondria, the observation corroborates the concept that the $O_2^-$ scavenging enzyme would be induced to cope with the cold treatment-caused adverse situation in mitochondria where the toxic active oxygen is produced at rates far exceeding the normal rate.
The relationship between water deficit stress and monodehydroascorbate reductase (MDHAR) activity was determined in lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) leaves under water stress condition imposed by with-holding water for 72 hrs. Relative water content determined in water deficit stressed lettuce leaves gradually reduced from 91.29% to 74.58%, and water content of medium drastically decreased 4.73% after quitting of irrigation. Hydrogen peroxide content in leaves subjected to water deficit stress rapidly increased, but soluble protein content rapidly decreased when those were compared to control plant. The relationship between relative water content and hydrogen peroxide content in stressed leaves positively correlated with $R^2$=0.8851, but soluble protein content reversely correlated with $R^2$=0.9826. Total chlorophyll content in stressed plant leaves was higher than that of control plant, and increased rapidly in early stage of treatment of both stressed and control plants. Carotenoid content was higher than that of control plant, and the ratio of carotenoid to total chlorophyll in stressed plant was higher as compared to control plant. As water deficit stress continued progressively, total ascorbate content in stressed plant leaves was a little higher than that of control plant. But dehydroascorbate (DHA) content within 6 hr of water deficit stress was higher than that of control plant, and then, content of control plant in 12 hr of stress treatment higher than that of stressed leaves. The activity of monodehydroascorbate reductase of cytosolic and chloroplastic tractions increased dramatically, and mRNA of MDHAR was highly detected by probing $^{32}P$-labeled single stranded MDHAR RNA of lettuce plant leaves subjected to water deficit stress. Relationship between MDHAR activity and relative water content and hydrogen peroxide highly correlated with $R^2$=0.9937 and 0.8645, respectively.
This study was conducted to investigate the effect of sulfur containing pesticides, captan, edifenphos, EPN, acephate, asulam, bentazone on arylsulfatase activity in soil incubated at $30^{\circ}C$ for 42 days with or without urea addition. The results obtained were as follows: When pesticides, captan, edifenphos, EPN, acephate, asulam, bentazone were treated in urea added and unadded soil, the activity of arylsulfatase was the highest at 7 days of incubation. The arylsulfatase activity in urea added soil was kept higher as compared with that of the urea unadded soil. When pesticides, captan, edifenphos, acephate, asulam, bentazone, were treated in urea added and unadded soil, the activity of arylsulfatase was inhibited at the entire experimental period. By the treatment of EPN in urea added and unadded soil, the arylsulfatase activity was decreased at the early stage of treatment, but increased after 28 days of incubation.
