  • Hospice movement in Taiwan emerged early in 1983. There was a nurse visiting terminal cancer patients by herself in Taipei city. It was ceased after one year. This stage of hospice movement might be called as "compassionate era". In early 1990, the first in-patient hospice ward was set up in north Taiwan. She demonstrated high touch in the high technology medical atmosphere. There was a great echo in Taiwan society to this action. In the following years, quite a few new hospice settings were founded. Medical professionals were aroused again to talk and think about life and death, dignity of dying and holistic care. This stage of hospice movement might be called as "ethical stage". Around 2000, obstructions were discovered in our development. We do need system and rules. Standard of setting and care, Curriculum of education and training, Accreditation system and specialist system and Nature Death Act are some of the systems we approached. This stage of hospice movement might be called as "Act stage". Among the "Act stage", the Nature Death Act is actually the mile stone in our history. • This article studies the types of financing and the liquidity of small and medium size firms in their early-stage. The sample firms distinguish themselves from the established firms in the second year after foundation in that they rely heavily on external equity financing. However, they use the internal financing the most in the fourth year and do not show distinguishing feature any more. In the mean while, they do not show any serious liquidity problem either in the second year or in the fourth year. The empirical results imply that early-stage lasts rather short after the foundation for successful Korean firms, and that a distinguishing feature of early-stage firm can be found only in financing, not in liquidity. They also allow us to assert that Government-lead financial aid programs should be limited to two- or three-year-old firms and focused on helping their financing investments rather than easing their liquidity problem.

  • Malicious insider threats have increased recently, and methods of the threats are diversifying every day. These insider threats are becoming a significant problem in corporations and governments today. From a technology standpoint, detecting potential insider threats is difficult in early stage because it is unpredictable. In order to prevent insider threats in early stage, it is necessary to collect all of insiders' data which flow in network systems, and then analyze whether the data are potential threat or not. However, analyzing all of data makes us spend too much time and cost. In addition, we need a large repository in order to collect and manage these data. To resolve this problem, we develop an indicator-based behavior ontology (IB2O) that allows us to understand and interpret insiders' data packets, and then to detect potential threats in early stage in network systems including social networks and company networks. To show feasibility of the behavior ontology, we developed a prototype platform called Insider Threat Detecting Extractor (ITDE) for detecting potential insider threats in early stage based on the behavior ontology. Finally, we showed how the behavior ontology would help detect potential inside threats in network system. We expect that the behavior ontology will be able to contribute to detecting malicious insider threats in early stage.

  • In the present study, we monitored the early development of Saccostrea kegakia subtropical oyster species distributing on rocky intertidal off the northern Jeju Island using scanning electron microscope (SEM). The female oyster collected in early August, 2012 were fully mature exhibiting relatively small eggs ($46.5{\pm}1.4{\mu}m$ in diameter) in the gonad, while testis of the mature male oysters were filled with fully developed sperms of 36.9 ${\mu}m$ in length. The fertilized eggs developed into 2-cell stage with polar body after 1 hr 20 min of fertilization, then followed by Morula stage (3 hr 20 min), Blastula stage (4 hr 50 min), Gastrula stage (7 hr), and trochophore larvae stage (9 hr 30 min). The observed early development of S. kegaki in this study was similar the early development of other oysters, although size of the fertilized eggs were somewhat smaller.

  • Real options valuation models are now proved as a effective valuation method both in Theoretically and empirically. However, to use real options model for early stage start-ups, additional non-financial information is crucial in the valuation process. Previous studies theoretically suggested the modified real options valuation model and process to use non-financial information in the valuation of early stage startups, but there is no empirical evidence on the suggested model. Therefore, this study investigated the effectiveness of the modified real options valuation model using a case study. The case study result showed that the modified real options valuation effectively reflect the non-financial information in early stage startups, and decrease the forecasting error in the valuation process.

  • Survivability of naval vessels is defined as the ability to perform functions and missions in a combat environment. Survivability has close relationship with the spatial layout of naval vessels. In order to maximize survivability, it must be considered from the early stage of design. However the existing concept of survivability was intended to be applied to unit vessels. So it was not suitable for assessment of spatial layout results at the early stage of design. In this paper, a simplified assessment method which can evaluate the spatial layout considering the survivability in the early stage of design has been proposed. For this, assessment layers were defined on survivability components such as susceptibility, vulnerability, and recoverability. Assessment layers of each component were overlapped to deduce a survivability layer of spatial layout alternatives. In addition, the proposed method and optimization algorithm were used to derive optimal spatial layout alternatives considering survivability.
