  • Recently, the photoacoustic imaging system has been widely and intensively developed, and has been shown the possibility of diagnosis for early stage cancer. In this study, we developed a photoacoustic tomography imaging system with a commercial ultra sound device and a linear array probe. A tube phantom and a chicken breast phantom was made for the possibility of a system as a breast cancer detection. A moving average filter and a band pass filter with 3~6 MHz bandwidth were developed for background noise elimination before delay-and-sum beamforming algorithm was used for image reconstruction. As a result, we showed that some signal processing procedure before beamforming was effective for the photoacoustic image reconstruction.

  • This study is for the segmentation and volume calculation of the white matter and gray matter from brain MRI. In general, the volume of white and gray matter is reduced by contraction of each components in the case of mental retardation which are Alzheimer's disease and Down's syndrome. As results, it is useful for diagnostic and early detection for various mental retardation through the tracing of variation for its volume from the brain MRI. But, until now, it was very difficult to calculate the partial volume of each components existing in some thickness, because MR image was represented by single gray value after scanning by MR scanner. Accordingly, new segmentation algorithm proposed in this paper is to calculate the partial volume of the white and gray matter existing in some thickness through the analysis of the blurred gray value, and is to determine the threshold for segmentation of white and gray matter, and is to calculate the volume of each segmented component. And finally, proposed algorithm was applied the models which was created manually, and then acquired results was compared with that of original model.

  • Breast cancer is among the cancers that may be healed as the disease diagnosed at early times before it is distributed through all the areas of the body. The Automatic Analysis of Diagnostic Tests (AAT) is an automated assistance for physicians that can deliver reliable findings to analyze the critically endangered diseases. Deep learning, a family of machine learning methods, has grown at an astonishing pace in recent years. It is used to search and render diagnoses in fields from banking to medicine to machine learning. We attempt to create a deep learning algorithm that can reliably diagnose the breast cancer in the mammogram. We want the algorithm to identify it as cancer, or this image is not cancer, allowing use of a full testing dataset of either strong clinical annotations in training data or the cancer status only, in which a few images of either cancers or noncancer were annotated. Even with this technique, the photographs would be annotated with the condition; an optional portion of the annotated image will then act as the mark. The final stage of the suggested system doesn't need any based labels to be accessible during model training. Furthermore, the results of the review process suggest that deep learning approaches have surpassed the extent of the level of state-of-of-the-the-the-art in tumor identification, feature extraction, and classification. in these three ways, the paper explains why learning algorithms were applied: train the network from scratch, transplanting certain deep learning concepts and constraints into a network, and (another way) reducing the amount of parameters in the trained nets, are two functions that help expand the scope of the networks. Researchers in economically developing countries have applied deep learning imaging devices to cancer detection; on the other hand, cancer chances have gone through the roof in Africa. Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) is a sort of deep learning that can aid you with a variety of other activities, such as speech recognition, image recognition, and classification. To accomplish this goal in this article, we will use CNN to categorize and identify breast cancer photographs from the available databases from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

  • Purpose: Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have rapidly emerged as one of the most promising artificial intelligence methods in the field of medical and dental research. CNNs can provide an effective diagnostic methodology allowing for the detection of early-staged diseases. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the performance of a deep CNN algorithm for apical lesion segmentation from panoramic radiographs. Materials and Methods: A total of 1000 panoramic images showing apical lesions were separated into training (n=800, 80%), validation (n=100, 10%), and test (n=100, 10%) datasets. The performance of identifying apical lesions was evaluated by calculating the precision, recall, and F1-score. Results: In the test group of 180 apical lesions, 147 lesions were segmented from panoramic radiographs with an intersection over union (IoU) threshold of 0.3. The F1-score values, as a measure of performance, were 0.828, 0.815, and 0.742, respectively, with IoU thresholds of 0.3, 0.4, and 0.5. Conclusion: This study showed the potential utility of a deep learning-guided approach for the segmentation of apical lesions. The deep CNN algorithm using U-Net demonstrated considerably high performance in detecting apical lesions.

  • Clinically, it is almost impossible for a physician to distinguish subtle changes of frequency spectrum by using a stethoscope alone especially in the early stage of thrombus formation. Considering that reliability of mechanical valve is paramount because the failure might end up with patient death, early detection of valve thrombus using noninvasive technique is important. Thus the study was designed to provide a tool for early noninvasive detection of valve thrombus by observing shift of frequency spectrum of acoustic signals with computer aid diagnosis system. A thrombus model was constructed on commercialized mechanical valves using polyurethane or silicon. Polyurethane coating was made on the valve surface, and silicon coating on the sewing ring of the valve. To simulate pannus formation, which is fibrous tissue overgrowth obstructing the valve orifice, the degree of silicone coating on the sewing ring varied from 20%, 40%, 60% of orifice obstruction. In experiment system, acoustic signals from the valve were measured using microphone and amplifier. The microphone was attached to a coupler to remove environmental noise. Acoustic signals were sampled by an AID converter, frequency spectrum was obtained by the algorithm of spectral analysis. To quantitatively distinguish the frequency peak of the normal valve from that of the thrombosed valves, analysis using a neural network was employed. A return map was applied to evaluate continuous monitoring of valve motion cycle. The in-vivo data also obtained from animals with mechanical valves in circulatory devices as well as patients with mechanical valve replacement for 1 year or longer before. Each spectrum wave showed a primary and secondary peak. The secondary peak showed changes according to the thrombus model. In the mock as well as the animal study, both spectral analysis and 3-layer neural network could differentiate the normal valves from thrombosed valves. In the human study, one of 10 patients showed shift of frequency spectrum, however the presence of valve thrombus was yet to be determined. Conclusively, acoustic signal measurement can be of suggestive as a noninvasive diagnostic tool in early detection of mechanical valve thrombosis.

  • To assess the ability of an extravasation defection accessory (EDA) to detect the clinically important extravascular Injection of iodinated contrast material that was delivered with an automated mechanical power injector. The purpose of this study was to assess the ability of this device during clinically important episodes of extravasation. The EDA system was composed of a strain gage, an amplifier and a computer-based system. In the rabbit experimental cases, there were seven true-positive cases (range of the extravasation volumes: $14{\sim}23 ml$). The algorithm results showed seven true-positive cases (range of the extravasation volumes: $7{\sim}16ml$), nineteen true-negative cases, two false-positive cases and no false-negative cases. The EDA system had a sensitivity of 100% and a specificity of 90% for the detection of clinically important extravasation. The EDA system had good sensitivity for the detection of clinically important extravasation and the EDA system has the clinical potential for the early detection of extravasation of the contrast medium that is administered with power injectors.

  • When cavitation noise occurs in ship propellers, the level of underwater radiated noise abruptly increases, which can be a critical threat factor as it increases the probability of detection, particularly in the case of naval vessels. Therefore, accurately and promptly assessing cavitation signals is crucial for improving the survivability of submarines. Traditionally, techniques for determining cavitation occurrence have mainly relied on assessing acoustic/vibration levels measured by sensors above a certain threshold, or using the Detection of Envelop Modulation On Noise (DEMON) method. However, technologies related to this rely on a physical understanding of cavitation phenomena and subjective criteria based on user experience, involving multiple procedures, thus necessitating the development of techniques for early automatic recognition of cavitation signals. In this paper, we propose an algorithm that automatically detects cavitation occurrence based on simple statistical features reflecting cavitation characteristics extracted from acoustic signals measured by sensors attached to the hull. The performance of the proposed technique is evaluated depending on the number of sensors and model test conditions. It was confirmed that by sufficiently training the characteristics of cavitation reflected in signals measured by a single sensor, the occurrence of cavitation signals can be determined.

  • Ovarian cancer is a highly malignant neoplasm with high mortality rates. Research to identify markers facilitating early detection has been pursued for many years. Currently, diagnosis is based on the CA 125 and HE4 markers, as well as the ROMA algorithm. The search continues for new proteins that meet the criteria of good markers A total of 90 patients were included in the present study, allocated into: group 1, ovarian cancer, with 29 patients; group 2, endometrial cysts, with 30s; and group 3, simple ovarian cysts, with 31. Following histopathological verification, the CA 125, HE4, and metalloproteinase 3 (MMP3) levels were determined and the ROMA algorithm was calculated for all patients. The mean concentrations of all determined proteins, CA 125, HE4, and MMP3, as well as the ROMA values, were significantly higher in group 1 (ovarian cancer) compared to group 3 (simple ovarian cysts). The highest significant differences for the CA 125 levels (p<0.000001) and ROMA (p<0.000001) values were observed in postmenopausal women. For HE4, statistical significance was at the level of p=0.00001 compared to p=0.002 for MMP3. For the differentiation between ovarian cancer and endometrial cysts, the respective AUC ratios were obtained for CA 125, HE4, and MMP3 levels, as well as the ROMA values ( 0,93 / 0,96 / 0,75 / 0,98). After removing the post-menopausal patients, the MMP3 AUC value for ovarian cancer vs. benign ovarian cysts increased to 0.814. For post-menopausal women, the MMP3 AUC value for ovarian cancer vs. endometrial cysts was 0.843. As suggested by the results above, both the CA 125 and HE4 markers, as well as the ROMA algorithm, meet the criteria of a good diagnostic test for ovarian cancer. MMP3 seems to meet the criteria of a good diagnostic test, particularly in postmenopausal women; however, it is not superior to the tests used to date.

  • Because damages arising from the occurrence of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) are very great, it is essential to make a preemptive diagnosis to cope with it in order to minimize those damages. The main symptoms of foot-and-mouth disease are body temperature increase, loss of appetite, formation of blisters in the mouth, on hooves and breasts, etc. in a cow or a bull, among which the body temperature check is the easiest and quickest way to detect the disease. In this paper, an algorithm to detect FMD from the hooves of cattle was developed and implemented for preemptive coping with foot-and-mouth disease, and a hoof check test is conducted after the installation of a high-resolution camera module, a thermo-graphic camera, and a temperature/humidity module in the cattle shed. Through the algorithm and system developed in this study, it is possible to cope with an early-stage situation in which cattle are suspected as suffering from foot-and-mouth disease, creating an optimized growth environment for cattle. In particular, in this study, the system to cope with FMD does not use a portable thermo-graphic camera, but a fixed camera attached to the cattle shed. It does not need additional personnel, has a function to measure the temperature of cattle hooves automatically through an image algorithm, and includes an automated alarm for a smart phone. This system enables the prediction of a possible occurrence of foot-and-mouth disease on a real-time basis, and also enables initial-stage disinfection to be performed to cope with the disease without needing extra personnel.

  • This study aimed to early detect damaged trees by pine wilt disease using the vegetation indices of UAV images. The location data of 193 pine wilt disease trees were constructed through field surveys and vegetation index analyses of NDVI, GNDVI, NDRE and SAVI were performed using multi-spectral UAV images at the same time. K-Means algorithm was adopted to classify damaged trees and confusion matrix was used to compare and analyze the classification accuracy. The results of the study are summarized as follows. First, the overall accuracy of the classification was analyzed in order of NDVI (88.04%, Kappa coefficient 0.76) > GNDVI (86.01%, Kappa coefficient 0.72) > NDRE (77.35%, Kappa coefficient 0.55) > SAVI (76.84%, Kappa coefficient 0.54) and showed the highest accuracy of NDVI. Second, K-Means unsupervised classification method using NDVI or GNDVI is possible to some extent to find out the damaged trees. In particular, this technique is to help early detection of damaged trees due to its intensive operation, low user intervention and relatively simple analysis process. In the future, it is expected that the utilization of time series images or the application of deep learning techniques will increase the accuracy of classification.
