Objective: This study aimed to develop a longitudinal predictive model that identifies first-grade children who are at risk for ADHD and to investigate the factors that predict the probability of belonging to the at-risk group for ADHD by using machine learning. Methods: The data of 1,445 first-grade children from the 1st, 3rd, 6th, 7th, and 8th waves of the Korean Children's Panel were analyzed. The output factors were the at-risk and non-risk group for ADHD divided by the CBCL DSM-ADHD scale. Prenatal as well as developmental factors during infancy and early childhood were used as input factors. Results: The model that best classifies the at-risk and the non-risk group for ADHD was the LASSO model. The input factors which increased the probability of being in the at-risk group for ADHD were temperament of negative emotionality, communication abilities, gross motor skills, social competences, and academic readiness. Conclusion/Implications: The outcomes indicate that children who showed specific risk indicators during infancy and early childhood are likely to be classified as being at risk for ADHD when entering elementary schools. The results may enable parents and clinicians to identify children with ADHD early by observing early signs and thus provide interventions as early as possible.
This study reviews the current status of Korean first graders, their experience with early care and education (ECE) programs, and their participation in private and after-school education. The research also examines how school adjustment during the first grade is related to family income, types of ECE programs, and participation in private and after-school education. Using the first year data of the Korean Child and Youth Panel Survey (KCYPS) 2010, this study analyzes 752 first graders who attended only one of two types of ECE programs (child care centers or kindergartens), after which two 25% income extremes were examined. The analysis demonstrates that children from low-income households attended child care centers more often, while children from high-income households attended kindergartens more often. For both low-income and high-income groups, child care centers had a lower starting age and longer attendance periods than did kindergartens. High-income household children started attending ECE programs earlier, experienced more private and after-school education, and received a larger number of private and after-school educational lessons. For the second research purpose, children from low-income families showed better peer relations in school adjustment, while children attending child care centers showed better teacher relations than children attending kindergartens. Children with after-school education also exhibited better peer relations. These findings show the importance of government support for early learning, especially for low-income families and offer a foundation for developing private education polices for early childhood before and after school entry.
Recently in most homes, children are mostly cared in early childhood education facilities. However, the increased number of safety accidents on children cared in such facilities has become a social issue. For that, the purpose of this study is to suggest interior environmental planning elements to improve safety level of early childhood education facilities. This study was carried out by performing literature review analysis and survey. First, in total of 42 environmental planning elements that can be applied domestically were derived from analyzing safety related guidelines for children facilities located both domestically and internationally then a survey was carried out targeted for teachers and staffs in the facilities on importance of the factors. The results of this study are as followings. First, it is required to intensify the level of safety related training for teachers and staffs in the facilities including better treatment for them. Second, the necessity of safety environment by each space in such facilities is required to be approached upon the level of child activities. Third, facilities planning and finalizing planning are important for improving safety of early childhood education facilities. Forth, from factor analysis on the extracted environmental planning elements that are considered as important by the teachers from both day care centers and kindergartens, they were categorized in 5 groups including 'collision and fall prevention plan', 'physical characteristic consideration plan', 'evacuation safety plan', 'lock security plan' and 'outer control plan'. It is fair to say that constructing a better safety environment for children can be achieved by the environmental planning factors by this study.
The effects of conflicted teacher-child relation on conflicted or passive peer interaction and a moderation effect of mothers' interpersonal relation satisfaction on the associations were assessed. Children from 2- to 6-year-olds (184 girls, 185 boys) mostly from middle socioeconomic-status urban community in Korea and their teachers and mothers participated. Conflicted teacher-child relation predicted conflicted peer interaction but not passive peer interaction. Children, whose relationship with teachers were conflicted, engaged in conflicted play with peers more often than children who were in less conflicted relationship with the teachers. Teachers who were in conflicted relationship with the children, perceived the children having conflicted interaction with peers more often, if mothers of the children were less satisfying in relationship with significant others, especially boys. Children, whose mothers are in less satisfying interpersonal relation with others, were more passive in peer interaction than children whose mothers are in more satisfying interpersonal relationship.
The purpose of this study was to compare between early childhood teachers and mothers in oral health knowledge, oral health care behavior, and perception of oral health education. The subjects in this study were 90 early childhood teachers who worked in all of kindergartens and child-care centers and 235 mothers who have young children (aged from 1 to 5) in 2 kindergartens and 2 childcare centers Y region. They completed questionnaires about oral health knowledges, oral health care behaviors, and perception of oral health education. The collected data was analyzed by descriptive statistics, $x^2$-test, and Fisher's exact test of SPSS WIN. The results were as follows: 1. There was not statistically significant difference between early childhood teacher's knowledge about oral health and mothers'. 2. There was statistically significant difference between early childhood teachers' oral health care behaviors for children and mothers' in prevention of cavity, keeping toothbrushes, guiding oral health behaviors, and check up at dentist's. 3. There was statistically significant difference between early childhood teachers' perception of interest and experience in oral health education and mothers'. Therefore, There was not difference between early childhood teacher's knowledge about oral health and mothers. But early childhood teachers more frequently carry out preventing of cavity, keeping toothbrushes, guiding oral health behavior to their children than mothers. Mothers were more interested in oral health than early childhood teachers. And Mothers wanted to be educated about children' oral care and early childhood teachers wanted to be educated about guidebook and media of oral health education.
This study analyzed the differences in parents' perceptions toward children's adjustments after grade skipping and early graduation. Parents of an early entrancer to K university(n=43) and parents of a non-early entrancer to K university(n=12) responded two kinds of questionnaires, one is for parents' perceptions towards children's needs for grade skipping and early graduation, and the other is for parents' perceptions toward children's adjustments to university experiences. Parents' responses were analyzed by MANOVA and MANCOVA. Results indicated that there was the significant difference in parents' perceptions for 'information about early graduation.' That is, parents of an early-entrancer had more 'information about early graduation' than their counterparts. However, there was no significant difference in parents' perceptions, after the effect of 'information about early graduation' on parents' perceptions toward children' academical and social-emotional adjustments. Thus, parents having more 'information about early graduation' considered more seriously the needs of grade skipping and early graduation in their children and worried less about their children's adjustments to university experiences.

This study aims to discover how self-esteem and social competence in early childhood affect school adjustment in elementary school. This study used the 7th year (2014) and 10th year (2017) of the panel study on Korean children, which are longitudinal research data from the Korea Institute of Child Care and Education (KICCE). Pearson's correlation analysis and hierarchical regression analysis were used as the main statistical analysis methods. The analysis was performed using the the Spss 21.0 program. As a result of this study, peer acceptance among early childhood's self-esteem, assertion, cooperation, and self-control among social competence have influences on adjustment to elementary school life. This study is meaningful in that it is a longitudinal study conducted with a time difference for 3 years with the same subjects in order to investigate the influence of the inner factors of early childhood on school adjustment in elementary school.
This research aims to explore the influence of early entrepreneurial education on cognitive and non-cognitive abilities of male sixth-grade primary school pupils using a randomized pretest-posttest control group design. A total of 45 students were randomly allocated to experimental, active-control, and control groups using a multi-stage random selection procedure. The experimental group was taught entrepreneurship using the Bizworld entrepreneurship education package. The active control group did not get entrepreneurship education but was instructed on a non-entrepreneurship-related issue (hygiene). The Control group received no instruction. The findings revealed that early entrepreneurial education skills impacted noncognitive abilities (such as risk-taking propensity, creativity, self-efficacy, persistence, and need for achievement). Early entrepreneurship education seems to be an effective technique for developing children's non-cognitive abilities in the late years of primary school. As a result, entrepreneurship education may be taught in primary schools, emphasizing the development of non-cognitive abilities, which will affect children's individual, educational, social, and vocational futures and can have long-term advantages for students, families, and society.

This study examined the influence of early childhood teacher's emotional expressiveness and play teaching efficacy on children-teacher interactions. The subjects of the study were 272 early childhood teachers. The instruments were the Emotional Expressiveness Scale, Play Teaching Efficacy Scale, and Children-teacher Interaction Scale. The SPSS 22.0 program was used to analyze the results of this study, and the data were analyzed through frequency and percentage, Pearson's probability correlation, and multiple regression analysis. The results of this study were as follows. First, there was a positive correlation among positive emotional expressiveness, which is a subcategory of emotional expressiveness, play teaching efficacy, and children-teacher interaction of early childhood teachers. On the other hand, there was a negative correlation with negative emotional expressiveness, which is a subcategory of emotional expressiveness. Second, children-teacher interactions of early childhood teachers were influenced by their emotional expressiveness and play teaching efficacy. In conclusion, this study revealed a significant correlation between the emotional expression of early childhood teachers, play teaching efficacy, and the children-teacher interaction, and that both variables were factors influencing the children-teacher interactions.

Objectives: Early intensive interventions are very important for children with autism spectrum disorder. We examined the actual conditions of hospital-based early intensive interventions for autism spectrum disorder in Seoul, in order to help develop and implement an evidence-based early intensive intervention model for use in Korea. Methods: Nine hospital-based institutes running an early intensive intervention program for children with autism spectrum disorder responded to a questionnaire in September 2014. They provided a brief introduction to their program, explained its theoretical bases, and reported the number of children, their age, intervention time, duration and so on. Results: In the majority of the institutions, the intervention was provided for over 20 hours every week, and the theoretical bases included various applied behavioral analysis (ABA) methods and other therapies (language and occupational therapy). The therapist-child ratio ranged from 1:1 to 5:3. Various types of therapists were involved, including behavioral analysts, special education teachers and (or) language pathologists. There was only one clinic where the behavioral analyst was the main therapist. Usually, the intervention was terminated just before the child entered elementary school. The main merit of the hospital-based intervention in our survey was the effectiveness of the multi-disciplinary intervention plan and its other merits were the accuracy of the diagnosis, its ability to be combined with medicine, and so on. Conclusion: The current hospital-based early intensive intervention programs provide interventions for over 20 hours per week and employ multidisciplinary approaches. However, there are very few institutes for children with autism and very few intervention specialists and specialist education courses in the country. We need more educational programs for intervention therapists and have to try to develop policies which encourage the implementation of an evidence-based early intensive intervention program nationwide.
